Good morning all, welcome to week 3! A reminder of the rules:

Be as happy as possible. The odd night of booze and chocolate is fine
It's not a diet, it's trying to eat healthily and well, eat fruit and veg
Lots of water, aim for 2 litres a day
Some exercise, walking is fine
Use sunscreen at ALL TIMES
Take your make up off before bed
Get enough sleep, aim to be in bed by 10, 10.30 every night
Use handcream and join the horned hoof club on their thread if you have vile feet

Suzywong is Harvey from Fit Club and will pop in every now and again to say Good Luck to You but in her absence: Good Luck To You.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY FOR YESTERDAY BK! Did you have a lovely time?
lol at your dd's liz Earle poison game, batters.
That definitely sounds more of a good than a bad day, blackduck.

SM yes I guess so, but I'm a bit like Batters, I can't do one glass - so its all or nothing with me!

yoyo · 14/03/2006 09:49

Good day yesterday. I always find my days are much better when DH is not around to tempt me off the straight and narrow. A bit like Moondog in that I don't find wine so appealing when I am on my own.

My hands are infinitely better since I used the Scholl foot scrub on them followed by moisturiser (the scrub does nothing for my feet).

Will try and fit in more walking today and may dig out an exercise video when DS is at Pre-school. Need to work on waist to bum area. Anyone catch the item on Woman's Hour yesterday about getting older and the distribution of weight? Only heard parts of it but it sounded quite interesting (and relevant!).

moondog · 14/03/2006 10:06

Yoyo there was a good section on a pretty painless looking 30 min. workout to combat middle aged spread in the Daily Telegraph yesterday.

Going great guns,I feel. Yesterday had..

Muesli,banana,yoghurt
Avocado, tomato and Van cheese (full of herbs)salad with spelt crackers
Freshly squeezed pomegranate juice
Ham and salad sandwich
2 glasses V8
Orange
Apple

In bed by 9:30,
Hands a bit better after going back to Neutrogena hand cream after disloyal experimentation with others.
Really think this and the Body Shop hemp one are the best.

suzywong · 14/03/2006 10:16

I'm having a crack at my new Pilates dvd tonight
And I had two glasses of wine last night and OMG my liver, makes me SHUDDER to think how I abused it in my youth. Poor livers

Like the sound of the Van cheese

moondog · 14/03/2006 10:18

Oh it's great.
It is fermented under ground and is very sharp..sort of like a fetta but better.
Organic natch.
I buy it from little shops sold by ancient Kurdish dudes who also sell honeycombs and walnuts.
Feel like something out of the Old Testament.

yoyo · 14/03/2006 10:43

Moondog - I was trying to avoid the "spread" word! I don't take The Telegraph but MIL does so may get her to post it on. Have to say that I am loyal to an old Lorraine Kelly and as long as I do it a couple of times a week it works excellently.

I didn't realise that the Bodyshop still do the hemp stuff. MIL bought me some a few years back and it worked well. Stopped using it as DS refused to BF when I did! Wonder if he'll turn up his nose at grass when he is mispending his youth?!

Will have spelt/rye crackers for lunch with salad and ham or tuna.
Sausage and chickpea casserole with rice for tea.

moondog · 14/03/2006 10:44

I'd cut out the rice.
I think they still do it..dunno though.I avoid shops if I can help it.

suzywong · 14/03/2006 10:46

so where are you now MD? Haringey or Kurdistan if you're buying this underground cheese?

I am eating a jam and peanut butter cookie and loving it.

Boiled broccoli with no seasoning is vile isn't it so I had to take the taste away

moondog · 14/03/2006 10:48

Wales SW.
Cheese was...smuggled in come to think of it.
I will return for more supplies in a month.

Broccoli fine with some soy, sesame oil and rice vinegar.
Who does the cooking chez Wong?
MIL??
Is she a fab cook??

suzywong · 14/03/2006 10:51

thought so

I do the cooking of course, just thought I'd try and be good,

TBH I can't abide Chinese food, apart from sate beef and deep fried soy beef. Too slimey IMO. She made some kind of shredded chicken and extremely pungent dried mushroom omellette thing tonight, it made my flesh crawl but dh was veyr happy so mustn't grumble.

yoyo · 14/03/2006 10:53

MD - Am limiting the sausage so will need the rice! Could have green veg I suppose but then the children will ask why I'm not having rice. Don't want to start them off - DD1 is 10 so am very conscious of what I say in front of her. Maybe a tablespoon of rice and the extra veg. Yes, that should get around that one.

Glad you are being Food Monitor MD!

moondog · 14/03/2006 10:53

Ah,then she will eat your gweylo food??

moondog · 14/03/2006 10:54

Make sure it's brown yoyo.

suzywong · 14/03/2006 10:55

no
she would rather eat poop than touch a lasagne but is rather partial to a vanilla slice.

What's a gweylo?
I think she would term me a "red-haired ghost"

moondog · 14/03/2006 11:01

Gweylos are 'foreign devils'.It's what the Cantonese speakers I grew up with called us whities!

Earlybird · 14/03/2006 11:28

Did pretty well with eating yesterday (but again not enough water), and also got in my 10,000 steps walking. Not so good - up until midnight.

Been to the chiropodist this morning, and walked home, so the day is off to a good start. Only problem is that I'm ravenous now, so must make sure I don't devour something "bad" that will undo my efforts.

No wine/alcohol is easy for me as I don't drink alone at home, and don't go out much in the evenings at the moment. The challenge for me will be the Easter break when the days are less structured (no school run) and all routine is suspended. And, we'll be on holiday so temptation will be great....

moondog · 14/03/2006 11:45

wHERE ARE YOU GOING eb?

Earlybird · 14/03/2006 12:06

Hi moondog - absolutely fine to be nosy! We're going to America for 3 weeks. Will be in the southeastern states, where it's currently 80 with buds popping out everywhere (guess I should get some sunscreen).

The visit should be lovely....and potentially lethal to any possibility of sustained healthy eating. All my supressed food cravings will come rushing to the surface - divine Mexican food, pork BBQ, southern fried chicken......I think I'm gonna be in trouble!

Does that food greediness happen for you when you're back in the UK after a sustained period away, and can suddenly have things that have been unavailable?

moondog · 14/03/2006 12:08

OOh,fantastic.
God,I love it down there!
Are we talking NC,SC,Georgia,Louisiana and so on.
Gah,girl, you wil have to have nerves of steel.
Think of those Margeritas for a start!!

Turkish food is brilliant,so not really ever craving anything when I am there apart from good wine. Not much of that in ultra conservative Van.
Probably a good thing...

Earlybird · 14/03/2006 12:20

Will mainly be in Tennessee and Alabama, with a bit of time in Georgia. Am hoping that the fact it's already warm there (so not as easy to hide under layers of bulky jumpers), will keep me from making too much of a pig of myself.

Have a vague recollection that you spent time in one of the Carolinas? Is that right? If so, what took you there?

WideWebWitch · 14/03/2006 15:05

Ahem! I just got a fab job offer so will be mainly drinking Champagne tonight! :)
