Lovely posts about parents....
When I read the Perfume Guide I recall being surprised at how much they praised the first 'Juicy Couture' perfume. I have yet to smell it but it just goes to show you do not have to shell out the big bucks.

Fritzi...re Eau Dynamisante..Where is 'here'? I imagine you aren't referring to France where all my Father's friends houses had a bottle of the scented shower gel.
I haven't tried Jo Malone although I have always loved the scent of roses and she has a lovely sounding version. I grow plenty of roses in my garden for that reason.
I'm looking for a good Oriental scent. I have dry skin like my mother and daughter and for some reason, heavy Oriental scents smell best on our skins. I do not suit 'green' scents but I have never grown out of anything scented with vanilla, gardenia, musk or coconut.
Years ago a friend brought me a bottle of CK1 from NYC before it was released over here and everyone raved about it although I'm sure I am not unusual in always 'sharing' my man's scents. Now I never wear it as it feels too 'young'. I don't know why. I also find that 'Aqua Di Gio' which I loved once, seems less appropriate.
I have always preferred the dark, complex scents like Tuberose. I have worn Fracas and Shocking but it seemed at one point, after that Vogue article a few years back where two writers debated the merits of 'light' versus 'dark' scents, that the whole of London femalehood was wearing them! I'd get into cabs and there'd be this trail of scent.......
I'm curious to try Caron's 'Tabac Blond'. Has anybody used it? A dear friend of mine in her 70's confided that she used to date a member of the perfume family who made it which made me swoon at the thought of all those lovely glass bottles she described him giving her. She said the colour and consistency of perfume used to be richer, more evocative. Maybe it was because more essential oils were used rather than chemically synthesised versions?
Here is my suggestion for a Christmas gift for a man -

I'd also like to try L'Artisan Parfumeur's new perfume 'Batucada' and also 'Mandarine'. Has anybody tried them?
I had a sniff of that Lady GaGa perfume- I am saying nothing.....
. I must admit as a keen horticulturist who used to have her own garden design business in the 80's, some perfumes state they contain scents from plants and flowers that I know do not really have scents....Or they smell vile like Dahlia flowers/stems when you tear them. I always imagine Dahlia's smell like an ant would taste (tad bizarre comparison, I know). Yet the Givenchy 'Black Dahlia' is not bad at all.
This is the most unusual way to scent your home/office -

I have a little bottle of Narcisse Noir by Caron which I bought after trying a sample from Les Senteurs
shop.lessenteurs.com/category/1001/Fragrance
and having been tempted into it by writing this post, I've ordered three more samples - Secret Oud by Caron, Felanilla 21 by Parfumerie Generale and Ombre Platine by Jean Charles Brosseau. Being parfum and edp, samples give quite a few days of scent although they are £5 each. However, some of the perfumes are £200 plus a bottle, so it's the only way to avoid a very costly miss choice. All Orientals I am afraid. I was tempted by an 'Aquatic' called Sel Marin' by Heeley and also 'Feminite Du Bois' and 'Orchidee Chocolat' by Mizensir. I really need to take more perfume risks!
Apologies for very long post....
