Yes we had a burgundy tie at school!, I never thought it would be so in. But it is and the wine colour that Marant is doing is so rich and lovely.

mignonette · 27/08/2012 19:25

Keep everything Dona...Hire a storage unit if necessary. Have indoctrinated DD and DS with the archive rules. Thank goodness i still have my burgundy old mans 'Goat' cardigan in the wardrobe although it needs a bit of de bobbling. Why do even expensive woollens bobble?

Think that burgundy velvet raised shoulder YSL jacket from a few seasons back would fit right in with AW12/13.

DonaAna · 27/08/2012 19:59

Bobbling has to do how the yarn is spun - tighter yarns bobble less. If you want to get really technical, thi is a good source .

Most synthetic mixes bobble like crazy. Viscose bobbles too. Most cashmeres I have had pill too much for my taste. Hence I'm a fan of machine wash merino wool. Wish more designers used good raw materials (without charging ????). But the sad thing is that more and more clothes are made to be worn just once :(

shopafrolic · 27/08/2012 20:01

Thanks Marsha re: Celine. Just beautiful and now it has a strap I can totally justify the purchase! I feel so good post shopping trip. It's amazing how confident clothes can make you. In the post baby haze I think I'd forgotten!

shopafrolic · 27/08/2012 20:07

Geek alert! Dona on your advice the Reiss jumper I bought is Merino. I am wearing it as I read your .ppt presentation whilst drinking champagne as DH has closed a big deal today so we are celebrating....

DonaAna · 27/08/2012 20:27

Cin cin Shop! Hope it wears well. I was just thinking how sad it is to wear merino in August (have been swathed in layers today, whatever happened to bare legs)

And happy your wardrobe makeover worked out so well! I had PND and a style and clothes makeover was really one of the key elements of recovery. I don't feel that I'm an invisible new mum any more - love getting positive comments and appreciative stares.

Silver leggings too much for the Nordics though - and didn't even take along the gold leggings Grin

Mignonnette I used to have an amazing vintage burgundy jacket from the 1950s (found it as a teenager, wore it constantly) - should not have gotten rid of it. On the other hand - I enjoy empty spaces and pared down rooms...

shopafrolic · 27/08/2012 20:30

Cheers Dona so wrong to be wearing knitwear in August I know!

MarshaBrady · 27/08/2012 20:42

Excellent Shop, really good. It is even better when you feel good about it all, people are complimentary etc, as this time you have little dc to enjoy at the same time.

I just realised two things now, I spelt cin cin incorrectly and I always thought spendthrift mean the opposite of what it does. So there you go!

shopafrolic · 27/08/2012 20:46

Just catching up on my Sky+ and watching Idris Elba's How Clubbing Changed the World. Fascinating to see how club music impacted designers in the 80s. Rifat O's white collection etc. Thank God I don't need to wear cycling shorts ever again!

DonaAna · 27/08/2012 21:46

You are what you wear is amazing.

Portia4 · 27/08/2012 21:49

I was in Tods yesterday with DD2 who declared that she really didn't like anything, it was all so like Clarks! My feet are the wrong shape for Tods and I find the 2 pairs I have desperately uncomfortable.

I really love burgundy it's such a rich colour,( DD2s school uniform! ) I too would like some thing for the AW, not sure what.

pickledsiblings · 28/08/2012 09:53

Portia, I saw some burgundy 50:50s in R&B Smile.

mignonette · 28/08/2012 14:59

I have an old video with that Ozbek collection. Yasmin Le Bon was one of the models wearing white hot pant/shorts and a feather in her hair- fabulous.

Thanks for the woollen bobbling/pilling advice, Dona - I have purchased cashmere made by Johnsons of Elgin in the past and that bobbled also. So frustrating. So I'm glad I didn't pay out big bucks for any Christopher Kane knitwear seeing as he out sources to them.

On the High St, I've had the biggest problems with Cashmere or wool/lambswool or angora knitwear from Monsoon. They bobble almost immediately. I bought a de-bobbler after getting over enthusiastic with a razor but you can only use it a few times before it erodes the weave. I like merino but I do miss that snuggly feeling a thick knit woollen affords.

DonaAna · 28/08/2012 15:09

This thread is clearly moribund - found it on page 2
C'mon ladies please give it some CPR!

Wearing my watermelon DvF silk top and sky blue MiH skinnies. Dressed casually, champagne & perfumes party will start in a few hours. We'll celebrate various work milestones and the signing a ????? contract today (bottles in fridge, perfumes laid out on the grand piano, will toss a quick salad just before the doorbell starts ringing).

Also had an appointment with a jeweller earlier in the afternoon - he is drafting a ring for me, will make a few drawings and an mock-up in silver for me to try on

What are you wearing ladies? BTW don't be scared to report stuff that it not Vogue level pretentious stylish - I've been wearing my thrifted 3 euro denim jacket for most of the day. Anticipate a total style blackout tomorrow - will be hungover, will have a mountain of work, it may rain. What would you suggest Wink - I'm seriously considering flappy bootcuts, a faded maternity top, men's black sneakers and a brown paper bag over my head. Need to check whether I still have the fleece somewhere to complete the outfit Hmm

mignonette · 28/08/2012 15:15

Was on call last night and turned out to be a busy one so decidedly sluggish today - Navy cigarette pants (ancient Helmut Lang), owl T shirt (because I'm a fashion victim) DH's Harley Davidson belt, old Westwood pirate boots and hair up in high pony.

MarshaBrady · 28/08/2012 15:15

Dona don't be blue it will come back. We're in the dry spell before AW.

I'm in Sandro watermelon thick cotton t and flippy red floral Sandro skirt. Have dc lying on me eating toast and what not. We are clearly in the height of the summer holidays when all structure is gone.

Uniform shopping on the weekend for new school got ds1. Eek. Quite exciting for him really.

MarshaBrady · 28/08/2012 15:16

Watermelon snap!

blue2711 · 28/08/2012 15:41

Champagne and perfume, sounds fun dona.

Where is your owl tee from mignon? Not the Burberry??! Lots about this A/W: Next and French connection have copied already. Designer copying happens so fast these days.

Yes I'm definitely in between season style limbo marsha. Bit over S/S but not ready for A/W yet. Wearing grey J Brand floral skinnies, white fine knit tee, cobalt blue Gracie (finally loving it on its long leather strap!). Gold glitter pedi.

alwaysrunninginheels · 28/08/2012 15:47

White whistles skinnies here, j crew boy shirt, R&B wedges and whistles animal print belt........but the weather is definitely nodding towards autumn!

mignonette · 28/08/2012 15:47

Not the Burberry I'm afraid- Kate Bosworth beat me to it Smile. It's an old one from fifteen years ago that I had printed up because I adore owls. Next have a less 'childlike' owl print Tee, like a Modigliani barn Owl which i also purchased even though it made me feel bit guilty.

It costs very little to take a Tee down to a print shop with the print you'd like added. I had the Mexican Eagle off their flag superimposed into another tee and I'm always being asked who made it. Time to play 'guess the next fashion animal print'.....

FritziGreenEyes · 28/08/2012 16:34

Grey owl T-shirt anyone? as seen on the Frugality blog.

AmberNectarine · 28/08/2012 16:35

Not very inspired outfit today. Vintage wash 7/8th skinnies from Uniqlo, mid blue Isabella Oliver tank, red Rag&Bone sweater, navy Supergas and blue cross body MaxMara (again). Lazy-preppy.

Did tour of dept stores and South Molton st this AM. Some lovely stuff coming in. Am excited by the the new season. Bought a simple jersey scarf from AV, which I think will be a useful inter-season item. Also handy on my flight next week (always get cold).

Dona I had blood poisoning in my first pg and was described as moribund in my notes. Never fear, we will rally :)

mignonette · 28/08/2012 16:36

Or this (expecting a thunderbolt from the Gods for mentioning asda) -
