For everyone who wants to harp on about their new purchases, enjoys links and some chat. Here is to new beginnings!

OP posts:
blossoming · 25/08/2012 20:22

blue you are making me yearn to be home with the laptop looking for links!
Is it really raining?

DonaAna · 25/08/2012 20:27

Blue you'll look stunning in leather leggings. Keep us posted!
Marsha do you know a cobbler who could give some TLC to your Lanvins? Resoling perhsps?
Shop I'm with you re: campsite - I have heaps of lovely clothes and wore none of them last night because the party was outdoors (wore a bib, we all did - do you want crawfish juice on you silk dress - plus it's freezing outside)... I probably should get one of those incredibly tailored and fitted Burberry AW tweed coats, possibly a burgundy one, to get me through all Nordic summer parties from now on

Tbh I've never worn Crocs and can promise that I never will. Do own one fleece, strictly for jogging, and it actually looks good in that context (very bright coral red). To be fair, many of my childhood friends have sailboats and the, ahem, relaxed style is practical if you spend three weeks on a boat.

Bloss wonder whether there is a Paris / provincial style divide in France. Here in the North the city hipsters look extremely sharp (yes ironic use of wolf fleece is very on trend) - and out in the provinces people get their clothes from supermarkets

Oh and welcome newbies! Thanks for joining - this thread must be working because I still haven't found time to read the Sept Vogue.

trixymalixy · 25/08/2012 20:36

Shopafrolic, I'm definitely heading to whistles on Tuesday to try it on then!

This thread I'd so bad for my bank balance.

DonaAna · 25/08/2012 20:40

Outnet great ATM for slick sharp tailoring and Wang Kirsten!

shopafrolic · 25/08/2012 20:43

Dona you CANNOT get crayfish juice on a Burberry coat! I simply won't allow it! Tomorrow I am going back to my bumpkin roots by digging out my Dubarrys perhaps with the chinos. Ex boyfriend will be there so still need to make an impression. Am clinging to what you said about wearing well made and well fitting clothes and hoping that will see me through!
Burger on a disposable burger anyone? I am such a campsite snob........

shopafrolic · 25/08/2012 20:44

Let me know what you think Trixy!

sansucre · 25/08/2012 20:49

Trixymalixy Am a bit sad that that chairs are Herman Miller, in addition to the stupid price they're charging for refurbishing the chairs, their after-service is practically non-existent in Europe, which I think is because Vitra has all the rights to Eames over here..
However, in their defence, there is an inordinate amount of work involved, almost as much as making a brand new chair.
The brand I work with also costs a lots to refurb but it's about 65% of the current retail price and that includes shipping to Denmark. Often, if a client doesn't want to pay, I recommend that they sell the chairs and put the money made towards new ones. Maybe think about that.
I also think it's worth contracting Vitra to see if they have any ideas, or if it's a question of wanting them re-covered, there are various people who can do this. There's also a furniture guy I know in Acton. I don't know how good he is but the fact he occasionally calls me asking for advice/ordering parts makes me think he's pretty good.

shopafrolic Great buys. I have that Whistles dress! But in the print Kate Middleton has it in. Can't bring myself to wear it now and am wondering whether to just ebay it..

popcorn Love your Sandro dress. Vestiaire is rather good if you know what you're after. I purchased the most amazing pair of unused white kidskin Oxfords by Robert Clergerie back in May at a third of their retail price and they've been an absolute wonder. I also got a lovely Sonia by Sonia Rykiel brooch on there too.

Marsha Argh, I've just come back from work and umm, Liberty! I bought the coat. In the peacock blue which I love but was dithering all the way home whether I should have bought the navy (my default colour) and if I'd bought the wrong size - I opted for small as the extra small seemed a little snug across my chest when I did it up with a chunky sweater on underneath. However, when it's open, the extra small hung better.
Also, I was chatitng to the salesgirl and she showed me what stock they've ordered in. Am rather happy that a lot of it is stuff I've rather liked on Sessun's own site, am going to have to do some serious budgeting..

Was also thinking about the things I'd like to buy this A/W and in addition to things already mentioned, I would really like:

Loafers. Maybe with a tassle and definitely with a block heel, about 2-3 inches, colour undecided. I suspect APC will win but my purse will not like that. Maybe Grenson but they won't have heels.
Some kind of patterned knee length skirt. Or possible a leather pleated one.
Navy cashmere sweater.
Maje colbalt blue ensemble from their lookbook, although worry this will clask with Sessun coat!

This list will grow. Massively. Might try to do some pinning for ideas/inspiration.

sansucre · 25/08/2012 20:53

Apologies, I have a habit of writing essays Blush

MarshaBrady · 25/08/2012 21:12

Sansucre Oh bravo on the Sessun! Yes good choice and understand the size dilemma too, jumper no jumper. Love Maje cobalt dearly and hope to get something too. The skirt looks very short.

Dona sadly they may be past it from too much rain. But if anyone sees a Lanvin lot on theoutnet bleep send up flare etc

Bloss I too am wondering if there may be a Paris divide. And even in Paris there are unfashionable areas. But then really great parts too of course.

Blue. any idea which brand? Some recent pics on pin and sightings have made me start thinking about them.

Shop sounds like a fabulous day.

And long posts are fab don't worry. I am very spaced out after finishing some big work. Been concentrating on it for three months. Feel good but am quite out of it. Also spents 3 hours in Aveda and got magazine fatigue. Although couldn't see Vogue.

sansucre · 25/08/2012 21:26

Marsha Now that Koh Samui is no longer in Covent Garden, the only really place to have a play is at the pop-up Chanel make-up store. Might make a trip one night after work as I'm determined to find a lipstick that suits me and want to smell Coco Noir as it's supposed to be rather good.
Well done with the magazine fatigue, that's the best thing about hairdressers!

Topazandpearl · 25/08/2012 23:05

Glad you had such a good day shopafrolic and lots of lovely purchases! Enjoy the rest of the weekend everyone.

FritziGreenEyes · 26/08/2012 08:34

shopafrolic Wow, great shopping haul! Sounds like you had a fab day.

DonaAna · 26/08/2012 08:53

Sansucre I have probably 12 different Chanel lipsticks so feel free to ask Wink - do I need to add that I love them. Always buy makeup products at duty free and on my list for next week is a big pump bottle of Hydra Beauty Serum, perhaps a new Rouge Allure Velvet lipstick and possibly a bottle of Antaeus (I love leathery masculine scents with dresses). Curious about Coco Noir, although most feminine mainstream perfume launches have been disappointing (except Bottega Veneta - love it).

Have just unpacked a wafer-thin MacBook - new laptop for work. The cream Zatchel is perfect for it (it's a cool cream color and looks exquisite with my bright corals, emerald greens and denim blues). I like getting beautiful items for work (my notebook is turquoise) - very inspiring.

DH going back to Italy later today, we are following on Sat. A frantic week ahead: packing, partying, trying to meet work deadlines.

pickofthepops · 26/08/2012 08:56

Place marking to get my groove back

MarshaBrady · 26/08/2012 09:42

Yes love Chanel make up sounds good Sansucre!

Dona dh keeps saying he wants to get me a MacBook but I don't need it really atm and much prefer the big Mac. I know why, he wants big Mac back. They are gorgeous and great for work.

A gorgeous day and very timely, as am meeting dh out to relax. Am addicted to it and crave it. So nice.

DonaAna · 26/08/2012 17:46

Ladies we almost slipped to page 2! We should not let that happen...
Have been enjoying the Sept Vogue (in park with DC in fact). Need to check out Akris trousers and Aspesi clothes - and I loved the story "The New Chic". Calvin Klein collection stuff is very me - streamlined but softly flowing. Love Francisco Costa's work. The article actually summed up my ideal personal style: "Serious chic is all about strong, frill-free design.... It speaks of authority (distinguished shoulder lines), innovation (bold color blocking) and confidence (sculpted silhouettes)." Yes, yes, yes. I get sidetracked way too often by high street junk trends and patterns, but deep down I know that kind of dressing is the real me. The cobalt COS dress, my Marni coats, my Helmut Lang and Calvin Klein LBDs, a white Zara smoking jacket and possibly the neon coral Zara jacket are all perfect examples of that, and they are clothes in which I feel really good.

Marsha you'd love the new Retina Macbook. My brother set it up, am learning to use it and think I'll really love it.

shopafrolic · 26/08/2012 18:04

Just to say 4 words "I don't do camping!"
(but I did look very stylish when I bumped into my ex and his new wife and baby!)

FritziGreenEyes · 26/08/2012 18:08

dona We have an Akris shop in town and DH would love to see me in those kind of clothes. Beautiful clothes, but not compatible with Ingenue Natural style.

Evening Ladies.
Today I managed to purchase 3 pairs of trousers in the sales; White 7 for Mankind Roxannes, navy needle cord 3/4 chinos , 7s again and Ralph Lauren White chinos , so I'm very pleased with my haul. This week I've taken to wearing heels with my skinnies a la Emmanuel Alt ( in my mind anyway!) so last weekend I bought a navy pair and black pair of heels, all I've got to do now is get used to them!

Today I'm wearing White skinnies, White racerback singlet, cobalt batwing top and navy heels.

alwaysrunninginheels · 26/08/2012 20:28

Oh I love the look of heels and skinnies but struggle with it day to day so mostly wear high heeled wedges. Go on portia link the shoes so I can imagine the look! Love love love heels!

DonaAna · 26/08/2012 20:29

Fritzi I may drop in and visit ;)
Portia snap on Roxannes. Wear them a lot (not white though). Love the sound of cobalt batwing.

Shop I've promised myself I'll never go camping again. (Love hotel linen and good breakfasts. Love spending half of the day in bed when travelling. We even bought a bed we had first tested in a hotel. No complaints.)

bretonbee · 26/08/2012 20:43

portia I love heels with skinnies too - sounds like great sales shopping. I definitely need a cobalt top I have decided.

DS has gone off to his GPs for a few days so had a child free day...leisurely breakfast with the Sunday paper, then managed a 10k run, a bit of tidying and a lovely late lunch / early evening drinks with a good friend. Wore my new navy houlis, a cream and silver vest top from Joseph and my taupe Jalouse.

Going to catch up on some work, sleep and shopping tomorrow!

Meant to say shop - I liked your purchases especially the Reiss dress. Not too envious of your camping trip but impressed that you managed to stylishly impress your ex under those circumstances.

Looked up your Sessun coat sansucre and looks lovely, also big fan of Chanel make up too. What are you thinking of from Maje?

MarshaBrady · 26/08/2012 21:09

I love the EA look, especially Marant heels.

I agree about camping Shop, haven't been since I was 18!

Hi Breton good work on the run and lovely outfit.

Portia4 · 26/08/2012 21:10

Dona I have Roxannes in both navy and grey denim as well, I really do like them. We don't have broadband here so I can't link to the shoes, will do so tomorrow in work!

Shopafrolic hope that you had a great birthday, your shopping looks wonderful Smile

shopafrolic · 26/08/2012 21:22

Thanks Portia - it isn't actually my birthday until November! This was an early gift...
