For everyone who wants to harp on about their new purchases, enjoys links and some chat. Here is to new beginnings!

OP posts:
AmberNectarine · 24/08/2012 18:51

I am currently awaiting delivery of these beauties. Already have Rose gold Gigis which are great.

sansucre · 24/08/2012 19:07

DonaAna I think you're right about the coat. All my clothes are navy or grey, so a bright coat will lift my wardrobe. Plus you've confirmed my suspicions about Pistol boots and if I'm really honest, I just can't justify spending all that money on them. I do rather like these Ash boots

Was looking at Whistles earlier and think this dress is rather nice although a bit pricey. Does anyone know if Red or Grazia do their bi-annual Whistles 20% off voucher in September or October?!

Oh, and was wondering, what do you all make of Vestiaire Collective ?

gypsyfloss · 24/08/2012 19:24

Bloss I have just bought the tan reptile gigis on your recommendation. Just in time for Autumn Grin

shopafrolic · 24/08/2012 19:36

I know I repeat myself but some lovely boots on Hudson Shoes www.hudsonshoes.com/horrigan-noir.html

These are v comfy and look good with skinnies.....

blossoming · 24/08/2012 20:16

Well done on the purchase gypsy. tiger, they are incredibly cushioned.

DonaAna · 25/08/2012 06:31

Morning all
Slightly hungover and with bad garlic breath after the crayfish party last night with some longtime friends (everyone discussed what to do for the fortieth).
No style news. Rainy and party was partially outdoors.
DH in town today, lots to do...

trixymalixy · 25/08/2012 07:56

Not style news as such, but DH is very pleased with himself as he is in 2 magazines this month, well it's his car really rather than him, but he is driving it in one of the pictures.

sansucre I hope your shopping cured your migraine. The chairs are Herman Miller rather than Vitra, apparently Herman Miller will restore them for 90% of the cost of a new chair Hmm, which seems a bit OTT. I may post a pic later so you can weep with me at what some idiot did to them.

Payday yesterday and have splurged £400 so far......

On a skip a drain survey and a plumber Sad

I did buy some snow boots I have had my eye on for a bit for skiing next year sorel Joan of arctic

DonaAna · 25/08/2012 09:17

The Sorels have been a minitrend for a couple of years in the Nordics Trixy. Car pics sound intriguing.

DH taking care of DC. I have errands to run but also have a batch of clothes (scarf, sweater, jeans) in the washer being dyed navy. And enjoying a new light read, 'You are what you wear' by Jennifer Baumgartner (purchased in Estonia of all places).

Cognac vintage satchels are a street style phenomen here right now - the young, hip & cute wear them. Found one for me on eBay for next to nothing. I'm a bit off luxury bags ATM. The weather is too changeable for delicate leathers - they really are best for The Wife moments when I step off a limo in a party dress. Have hardly worn the Mini Gracie during all summer. When I'm channeling true me, simple and practical feels so much better. Bizarrely I found a simple Gucci influenced black bamboo handle bag in my wardrobe - very simple with one interesting detail (the handle). Now that's very me!

trixymalixy · 25/08/2012 09:30

I wore my Sorel tofinos on this years ski holiday, but the girl serving the drinks in the bar just looked really cool in her skinnies and Sorel Joans so I've been lusting after them ever since. I'm sure it was the boots and not just the way she wore them and I'll instantly look like her the minute I put them on Grin.

trixymalixy · 25/08/2012 09:32

Envy at your stepping out of a limo in a party dress moments!

Hot again here, but not as bad. Still in shorts and vest top.

Fritzi, I'll do some prancing in front of the mirror with belted cardis and blazers. Thanks for the tips. Enjoy your trip, the Cotswolds sound nice. I left the UK so long ago, and never spent many holidays there as a kid, really, so I am woefully ignorant about most places, especially south of the border.

I have found convoluted way to obtain these for work, involving them being sent to my mum's and her forwarding them/bringing them in Sept. Shops who don't do overseas delivery annoy me.

Not exactly splurging, budgetwise, and probably not very on trend, but have decided to just go with what I know suits me.

DonaAna · 25/08/2012 11:37

Popcornia I love the Ruffus dress and would buy it immediately if I found it in green.

Went thrifting today. Found a black velvet blazer, very high quality, 100% cotton, perfect tailored fit, made in UK, you could still see inside the collar where the alarm had been, for 20 euros. A good velvet blazer has always been one of my favorite classic go-with-anything items but I have not had one for ages. Also saw a pair of reddish brown vintage boots in my size (41) that would be a very Marantesque touch. Did not buy because it they were clearly an Autumn orangey brown - but oh so cool!

Trixy glamorous moments are pretty rare in my life but they do exist... Next week no driver and no limo but I will organize a champagne tasting & perfume smelling party for my work friends. Hmmmm what to wear?

DonaAna · 25/08/2012 11:41

Two stylish women on the street:
Young girl, cream cardi buttoned backwards, skinnies, flats, the ubiquitous vintage cognac leather satchel.
Young mother, cobalt loose slightly batwinged top, dark skinnies, tan brogues. Really stood out, lovely!

schmalex · 25/08/2012 12:29

Just marking my place. Yet another delurker. I have been living vicariously through the W&A threads during my pregnancy. Now 5 months post baby and ready to shop!

shopafrolic · 25/08/2012 18:00

So............ do you want to see what I bought?

pinterest.com/shopafrolic1/a-w-2012-purchases/

I already owned the Zara scarf and the GAP skinnies.......
The best day!

Sorry

DonaAna · 25/08/2012 18:17

Happy you had a great day Shop! Great haul and very versatile. Particularly like the blue Reiss dress.

Wore tux shirt, Roxannes, new velvet jacket and Sixtyseven boots to a garden party with children. Although outfit was totally spontaneous and random, felt reasonably stylish because my clothes fit and the boots flatter and lengthen my legs. Shocked to see how haphazardly my school friends dress. Fleece, Crocs, Campers, formless denim. Been there, done that, don't want to go there ever again Grin.

MarshaBrady · 25/08/2012 18:25

Great shopping Shop am impressed!

Good work on the shoes Auld.

Lovely Sandro dress Popcornia.

Great outfit Dona am with you on the soles of shoes being worn out too quickly in wet weather. First the pistols and now my Lanvins . But am in denial about how wrecked the soles are.

I need something now, but really should have found something in the sales to segue into boot weather.

Sansucre did you decide which Sessun colour? I'm thinking eeek navy. The blue may be a bit cornflower for me. But then again...

blossoming · 25/08/2012 18:26

Wow, that's a great haul shopaholic! You must have had a great time! Are you celebrating with champagne?

I come home from France on Wednesday, so starting to think about A/W. but tbh I've only been in summer clothes for about 4 weeks. So back to what I wore in June/July then!

I'm not sure about this French thing. The clothes I saw today were horrific and none of the shops caught my eye. No classic basics like White Co or more pricey Maxmara. I think we 're really lucky with our options in the UK.

alwaysrunninginheels · 25/08/2012 19:06

shopafrolic love the clothes. Really like the silk blouse especially!

Grin at the idea of dona in fleece and campers. I can't picture it! In my head you are v glam!

trixymalixy · 25/08/2012 19:25

Love your purchases shopafrolic! I really like the Whistles dress particularly.

shopafrolic · 25/08/2012 19:35

Thanks everyone - the whole day was fab and a clothes revelation. Found a new brand that I love in A&W - in which I am a size 12 and not a frumpy 14!!

She had a really good eye for what worked with what so lots of the pieces are interchangeable. The only thing we struggled with was a daytime blazer but she is going to email me some ideas once she's had a look around. Also blew the budget before we got to belts and jewellery so again she's going to send me ideas that I can add to my birthday wish list from relatives and friends.

Thank you all so much - you have been so welcoming and so inspiring - I feel better about myself than I have in ages!

We're heading to Oxfordshire to a campsite tomorrow (eek) - no tent - just to visit friends for a while for their 40th celebrations. Not sure which of my new purchases I can show off in the mud and rain.

So yes Bloss celebrating tonight with Thai and a good bottle of wine (fizz tomorrow).

I hope you are all having suitably fabulous long weekends.

x

shopafrolic · 25/08/2012 19:36

Trixy the Whistles dress is amazingly flattering. Not the type of thing I would normally try at all. The ruching at the waist hides all my flabby bits! Hoping to wear that for my 40th with the LKB heels.

blue2711 · 25/08/2012 19:56

Oh I love your purchases shop! The whistles dress especially is right up my street. Love the grey jumper too. So nice to hear about your fab day. I'd love to do that someday.

That Sandro red dress is so cute popcorn.

dona I simply don't believe you have ever worn a pair of crocs or a fleece.

My desire for leather leggings is reaching fever pitch. Worried I'm not going to find the right pair and have convinced myself that they are all I need to look stylish this A/W...
