eep trixy that had crossed my mind! I will feel v cheated if I naturally wake up at six...

wow, original flapper dress - amazing.

DonaAna · 24/08/2012 06:37

DD2 has learned to climb out of the crib - woke at 3.30 am to a small person playing my room.

On my morning commute. Sansucre please do stay and loving Bretonbee's BV. Sixtyseven boots reaching good CPW status soon - still enjoying the sexy walk and the cute 25 y o.

FritziGreenEyes · 24/08/2012 08:20

rufus Love the sound of your outfits. Hope you had a great night out yesterday.

deca I get lots of freckles too in the sun which DH loves and I hate. Good to hear that there is family to support your relative.

OBface I have very fond memories of the Midlands. Used to live there as an aupair for a few months when I was in my 20s. Good times! Barcelona is amazing! I went with DH two years ago for a weekend.

cheesesarnie Have you decided on an outfit for today?

auldalliance I think you just need to experiment. For me it works best to wear a hip length cardi, leave it open and wrap around a thin belt, like this or this. Although my belts are thinner.

Will introduce "arrousadou" to our vocabulary!

Cannot join in with the handbag talk but I have been coveting a Bottega Veneta for ages and love Phillip Lim too.

mignonette Have you watched Garance's Tokyo with Lady Dior

Think I have to try on a pair of Acnes next week to check out the swagger Smile

pickled You and your boss sound like a very fashion-forward team. Wink

sansucre Welcome and please stay!

I love all the house talk! Have many projects for our house I want to do, driving DH to despair Smile.

mintgreentiger Enjoy your weekend! Where are you going to?

Morning everyone! Off sightseeing in Arles today as the forecast isn't conducive to a whole day by the pool. Looking forward to lunch out. Wearing the sapphire vest and white pencil skirt combo from my holiday board, with gigis on feet. Too hot even for jago scarf though.

Dauphin · 24/08/2012 09:30

Morning! Can sympathise Hopefully...am packing too - we move soon. I won't use the removal firm's packers, as they pack all sorts of rubbish I find. Anyway, too controlling - me, that is. Need to know where everything is. Combined with 3 DCs at home, it's wonderful! Taking a chill pill frequently.

I can confess to buying Country Living too. Although not into quaint-sy cottage look. I think a cross with ultra modern 'Living' and clean simple lines is a good look. Our house is a mix of old Cotswold cottage and modern, though traditionally crafted, double height extension (with which we have been v lucky after months of negotiation, to virtually double the size of the house); plus we will have a wrap around deck and deep Cotswold porches.

I am squirrelling away any finds for the house: whenever I see something...much to DHs Hmm. He is far more interested in sustainable heating and WiFi.

FritziGreenEyes · 24/08/2012 09:35

dauphin Your new house sounds wonderful. Whatever your DH says don't agree to have a built-in Sonos sound system. Yes, it's lovely to listening to all radio stations worldwide but I hate not having a radio with simple switch-on/switch-off button.

Can I ask an unrelated S&B question: We are thinking of spending a weekend in London in October to visit some friends. DH has actually taken the rest of the week off (wohoo!) and we would love to rent a car and explore some other area than London for a change. Are there any places/hotels you can recommend? DD is six.

OP posts:
Dauphin · 24/08/2012 09:39

Suffolk, Fritzi? Loads of lovely places to visit...depends on how far out of London you wish to drive...

Dauphin · 24/08/2012 09:40

Or come to Cotswolds. Can highly recommend! Notyummy very good at this....

mintgreentiger · 24/08/2012 10:03

i think the cotswolds is our destination this weekend! (its a surprise but DH tends to stick to tried and tested places not too far from London). Beautiful area, Envy you call it home dauphin - your house sounds lovely.

lots of places, fritzi depending on how much exploring you want to do? my friends have a 4 and 5 year old and have just come back from a featherdown farm - sort of luxury ish camping which they loved. There are loads dotted within an hour or couple of hours drive from London. Or some lovely hotels in New Forest, Cotswolds, Suffolk etc if that suits you better.

Charliefox · 24/08/2012 10:04

This for work Half price I tell you!

notyummy · 24/08/2012 12:54

Back later re travel ideas. Driving from Hampshire to Lincs just now with dd so no Internet!

shopafrolic · 24/08/2012 13:01

Oooo - that's beautiful Charlie.

Cotswolds is lovely - I'm jealous of Dauphin

I guess it depends how far out of London you want to drive Fritzi?

FritziGreenEyes · 24/08/2012 13:56

I'd say 3-4 hours from London. Cotswolds sounds nice.

OP posts:
Dauphin · 24/08/2012 13:57

Ooh I wonder where you are going mint?

Aw, thanks Shop...it is a lovely place to live. Very green. Must be all that rain!!! Rural, but you have decent shops and coffee nearby. .

FritziGreenEyes · 24/08/2012 14:05

dolce Decent coffee and shops are vital. I'm booking!

sansucre · 24/08/2012 14:39

Hello everybody!

Trixymalixy That is an AMAZING bargain re. your Cylinda line cocktail shaker! I have to confess that even though I have access to them with an excellent discount, I've yet to get round to buying one. As for your Eames chairs, they're usually restorable. If they're Vitra ones, Vitra should be able to give advice if not, feel free to send me some pictures - I work with mid-century furniture and vintage Scandinavian crockery/pottery/glassware so am pretty good at stuff like this!

I had a terrible morning at work which resulted in me crying "migraine" and I went home via Hummingbird and COS in a bid to cheer myself up. The former resulted in a red velvet cupcake and the latter in this jumper dress which will be perfect for work. Trying it on made me start thinking that I need to buy new ankle boots, I have a lovely pair of Ash wedges from last year that I lived in but they're looking a bit shabby now, so am wondering whether to just bite the bullet and buy a pair of Acne Pistol boots - I've been wanting a pair since their inception and I particularly like these and well, I have a tax rebate cheque that I think I will spend on some useful pieces. (I was thinking of the Sessun peacoat as mentioned in another thread and a pair of Carven black wool shorts but think the boots might be a better buy? I just need to figure out coat or shorts!)

So, am now going to have a proper read through this thread and try to acquaint myself with you all and what you're thinking about buying! Smile

Topazandpearl · 24/08/2012 15:37

Hi all
Sorry to hear you had a bad morning sansucre, hope your shopping made up for it.
Having been reading this thread and the French one, I have decided that I need to consider my outfits and purchases more. Yesterday and today I paid particular attention to my hair and what I was wearing (and received compliments!). One difference was in wearing less jewellery, from the "remove something" advice. I felt that I looked more 'together'.
Also, I had decided that I needed a pair of black court shoes. Now I am rethinking, maybe court wedges would be more stylish? Under your collective good influence, I will take my time to make the better choice!

DonaAna · 24/08/2012 15:39

Sansucre I'd probably get the coat. Am not supposed to say this, but in a cool, wet climate leather boots can wear out quickly - so may not be a great invesment.. I looked into Acne boots but there were two problems: the soles and that they were too wide for my ankles. (Saw another girl like me wearing Pistols - on her they looked like barnyard wellies.) The 67s fit my brief better (narrower, rubber soles, puddle and splash proof greased leather). Try on lots and pick the ones that suit you best?

DonaAna · 24/08/2012 15:41

Topaz I love wedges and have - oh 4 or 5 pairs?

blossoming · 24/08/2012 16:08

I've said it before but it's worth saying again, I have never had sandals like these before. So comfortable, no need to break in. Love them so much!
Oh and Arles; not so stylish!

notyummy · 24/08/2012 16:42

Fritzi - some ideas:

Magical for a six year old.

Then this.

I would also second the Cotwolds. Lovely hotels. Quite a good summary here. Can recommend the rectory and Hotel du Vin in Cheltenham. Beleive Calcot manor is lovely and people either love/hate Babington House - luxury and great for people watching but there is quite a bit of med-ja loveiness going on that can grate...

Or the New Forest:

Perhaps this and we have been here and loved it. There plenty of families when we were there - lots of walks in the woods and spotting the new forest ponies. I believe this place is lush.

And not far from London and in lovely country side is Four Seasons. We had a lovely stay and the spa is great. Good for families too.

Let me know if I am way off base with price/location.

Suffolk is also nice - I will have a think about where we know.

shopafrolic · 24/08/2012 16:56

Fritzi This place is a delight:
www.cotswoldhouse.com/

but I haven't been there with children in tow.......
They had a separate School House that you could hire (Johnny Depp had stayed there) - great if there's a few of you.....

FritziGreenEyes · 24/08/2012 17:33

Thank you all for the great ideas! Have copied and pasted and will check out tonight with DH. Smile
