For everyone who wants to harp on about their new purchases, enjoys links and some chat. Here is to new beginnings!

Decameron · 23/08/2012 08:51

I can confirm that Rufus looks 10 years younger at a minimum. I'm 40, not far behind. It hasn't bothered me yet but there is still time to fall apart. SmileI've always been into clothes, since I was a toddler, apparently, and more than happy to spend money on myself. I don't think that I have had any really frumpy years but may be deluded. Possibly my loafers, blazer and pearls look for first year uni was a little prissy!

Shopafrolic, great you got your colours done and have confidence in what you'll buy on your shopping day. I still haven't gotten around to it. I keep meaning to but always spend the money on something else.

Marsha, we were in Manhattan for three years and then moved to NJ just across the river for the last two years. I got fed up having no washing machine! I loved it but the holidays sucked (I was on 10 days a year, which was hard to take when coming from here where you get 25 days!).

That website is fantastic, Dona! I also read your post and can't understand why it was deleted. Great boots.

The boots thread is funny. I do still like pistols and may buy again if I find them on sale but don't think I love them enough to pay full price.

FritziGreenEyes · 23/08/2012 08:55

deca We must have been style twins during our uni years albeit in different countries. Smile

Decameron · 23/08/2012 08:59

I think I looked like my mother's mini me, Fritzi!

trixymalixy · 23/08/2012 09:18

There are acne pistols and star boots reduced on shoeaholic. Not much colour choice though.

I plan to be one of those elegant elderly ladies with my hair in intricate up dos. I can't put my hair up just now though so better get practising!!

notyummy · 23/08/2012 09:51

I plan on being a stylish older lady too! I have seen an article recently about models who are 50/60 - and 80+. They looked stunning! Now part of that is the great bone structure that allowed them to become models in the first place and we don't all have that, but there is a lot to be said for maintaining a healthy lifestyle/weight and youthful outlook. My mum is 74 and doesn't look (or act) it. That said, some of her clothes really are a bit frumpy, but she just hates spending money on herself. She doesn't seem to mind me doing it and never makes me feel bad - always asks if I have anything new when she visits and gets me to try it on so she can admire. Part of me would love to give her a personal shopper treat, but I am really not sure how she would feel about it and I would hate to stress her out.

I am looking seriously unglamorous in exercise gear at the moment (but, you know, its all part of maintaining the post-40 healthy lifestyle as detailed above Wink.) I wanted to do one of my Insanity workouts, but we have a plasterer in doing the kitchen ceiling, which overlooks the conservatory where all my exercise takes place....I am not sure that either of us are ready for me to throw myself headlong into circuit training whilst overlooked. Particularly because it gets spectacularly tough towards the end and he may be unsure whether he needs to call for medical assistance or not.....

Going round to friends tomorrow night for dinner and drinks. Not sure what to wear as the weather forecast looks changeable at best. I think it will be fairly casual so may be skinnies and a top. Bit boring though. Will have a think.

AmberNectarine · 23/08/2012 09:56

Morning all

Am in a greasy cafe waiting for breakfast with the September issue of Vogue while the baby settles at nursery. Must look very incongruous.

Am ready to do battle with the Pisspoor office again, wearing white H&M tank (need to upgrade this) under sheer black Acne racer back vest, vintage wash J brand 910s, metallic blue Havaianas and bright pink woven silk Marant scarf. Accessorising with men's MK rose gold watch and blue crossbody MaxMara. Wish me luck!

decam I love NY, what an amazing place to have lived. You're almost rivalling Dona with your globetrotting. I lived in Paris briefly as a toddler, but really didn't appreciate it. Otherwise have always been London-based.

AuldAlliance · 23/08/2012 10:26

Clouds!! The sky is cloudy today, so I may be able to get the boys in the car or into town on foot without too much moaning about the heat. The temperature is actually still 37°, but they'll be fooled into thinking it's cooler. And the house is cooling down and we may not have to live in shuttered gloom all day long!

Shorts, vest top and sandals here. Again.

Am having letter box issues, as our house has no proper address, so the order I placed in the Hush summer sale was returned marked "address incomplete." I had to ask for it to be delivered to work, where it is hopefully now awaiting me, but my colleagues will look askance Blush when I pull it out of my pigeon hole. I want a few things from Gap, but don't know if the parcel will reach me or not.

Fritzi, I have found you online, and love the kids' stuff you've pinned. Have nabbed a few ideas. Found Amber too.

Dona, your life is mysterious and intriguing, am trying to work out how you work both in the far North and Italy. And failing. But I appreciate that you need to be discreet, and it gives you an enigmatic aura.

I love that Advanced Style site, some amazing ladies on there. I have a colleague here who must be around 50 and has beautiful white hair. She looks really youthful, much more so than many who dye their hair. Sadly, I think that look really only works on smooth, straight hair, not curly haystacks like mine.

Our landlord dropped off a box of veg from his garden last night, so am off to make chilled courgette soup and pesto and then decide what to do with the small, pale peppers/chillis that I'm having trouble identifying! The boys are festooned with swords and tomahawks and are hunting for lunch. Slightly alarming that their (soft toy) prey is hedgehog and dog.

Apologies for weird, rambling post.

Hopefully · 23/08/2012 10:50

Amber enjoy the peace and quiet!

I am shunning all new purchases (including the new Hush stuff) as I am saving for my leather trousers. Am being v good.

Gorgeous day here, have already been to park and supermarket, debating plans for the afternoon with DS1 (aged 3). Apparently we are going to the park again... Grin

FritziGreenEyes · 23/08/2012 11:53

auldalliance We get fruit and veg from our neighbours all the time and it's wonderful. Isn't Pinterest great? What are your initials so I can follow you back.

At the hairdresser's getting my roots done. If I wouldn't colour my hair, I would be totally grey. Maybe at fifty? Will look at blog when I'm home.

Can MNHQ please explain why dona's post was deleted? Must surely have been a mistake Hmm

DonaAna · 23/08/2012 11:54

Argh just lost a long post. Loving the talk, just had a lovely tea break catching up. No time to retype, sorry: need to hang out with the cute 25 y o new guy at work Grin

DonaAna · 23/08/2012 11:58

Fritzi, it was because I used the word gang**d in reference to what happened to this thread earlier - a style lapse certainly.
Fair enough, but along went my deep style philosophy musings

AuldAlliance · 23/08/2012 12:18

Fritzi, I've not signed up to Pinterest yet, because MN already offers too many excuses for not working. If I do take the plunge (and work out how to do it), I'll let you know.
Yes, fresh fruit and veg is unbeatable. I've just eschewed the boys' pasta carbonara for a salad of these babies with home made pesto & yoghurt "dressing" and parmesan shaving. Am trying to lose the summer kilo that has insidiously added itself to my midriff.
Still not sure whether the white things are capsicum-type peppers or the hot kind. Only one way to find out...

rufus101 · 23/08/2012 12:22

Well Dona think that was an apt choice of words!
Thanks Decam for the vote of confidence! (she's being far too kind) She on the other hand is very fresh faced and would easily pass for 25!
I'm off for an overnight stay to a swanky hotel. Not quite Paris Bloss, but it will do. (just!)
Love the older blogs! I intend being like that. My 80 year old MIL has a great sense of style and colour and delights in my wardrobe. She gets a vicarious pleasure out of it for sure.

FritziGreenEyes · 23/08/2012 12:29

dona Enjoy your day at work. Wink

rufus How exciting! Outfit details please Smile

Cloudy here too auld (not far from Montpellier). So have collapsed after very long bike ride. About to have a tarte au citron meringue with coffee and then will jump in the pool. Life is tough..
decam has amazing skin and bone structure for sure.

shopafrolic · 23/08/2012 13:34

Quickie post. I just popped into Zara to look at the linen tees but they are v see through - do you wear something underneath or am I being prudish. Picked this scarf up too
www.zara.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/product/uk/en/zara-W2012/271013/825127/LEOPARD%20PRINT%20SCARF%20WITH%20BORDER
and a new red lipstick from Dior.
Heading home now with a stoppy DS

rufus101 · 23/08/2012 13:43

Today - Zara lace dress with nude Hogan heels (my favourite shoes ever) with Elli Tahari coat (greens/purples). Tonight - Hoss Intropia fitted dress in brown with my favourite Missoni belt (wide with greys/blues/yellows in narrow stripes) and Comptoir wedge heels. Tomorrow - the Massimo Duti cream trousers (magically slimming) with either a Hoss Intropia top in purple or a cobalt blue Sonia Rykiel sweater. Phew! Better stop. DH is shooting evoke glares!

rufus101 · 23/08/2012 13:45

Evil that should read!
We holidayed near there last year Bloss. Loved it! YY to lemon meringue!

Decameron · 23/08/2012 14:07

I preferred evoke stares. Wink Why thank you, it is the freckles (which I have always hated). Have fun, Rufus, the outfits sound wonderful.

Lovely scarf, Shopafrolic.

Dona, you really do have the best job.

Amber good luck with the passport office. You will have to get a transfer abroad but London is pretty fab too. I also lived in Italy for a year, which was great.

For those of you I told about my relative, just heard that she is now off life support and in good spirits, considering. It will be a long road (she also broke her neck and smashed her shoulder) but she is a strong person. So relieved.

MarshaBrady · 23/08/2012 14:10

Oh my goodness Decam that is scary. Your poor relative. I hope it will continue to get better. Great to see you here btw, am relieved!

I really want to join in, but am just so so close to finishing some work and want to read properly rather than skip over posts.

But I absolutely adore the chat and the international vibe Smile

blossoming · 23/08/2012 15:54

Oh that is a relief decam, although a long road as you said. Does she have lots of family support close by?
My Irish friends in Uni wore blazers, pearls and loafers too! I was in my Top Gun phase at the time but was venturing into French Connection too.

blue2711 · 23/08/2012 15:58

Decam how lovely to see you, was worried. So sorry to hear about your relative, hope she makes good progress now.

Gorgeous outfits rufus.

Feel like I can't fully relax until I know you've got the passport, amber.

Wearing pink jeans and creamy metallic jumper from TS, strange combination but I think it works. Layered over white vest and with white/gold floral ballerinas. Although just read the French thread and now feel a little too English... No high quality classics on me today! Well except for jewellery, perhaps that helps.

Jumper is nice though and will work A/W not as pinky as it looks on screen

OBface · 23/08/2012 15:59

Feeling very unexotic sitting in my midlands based living room looking out at grey skies...

Glad that the Style Passport discount was useful Amber - that site is always my saviour when it comes to holiday time. And great for stocking up on basics, sure I bought some Chinti and Parker tees for pennies from there before.

Was in London for work yesterday and had hoped to get in some shopping time but meeting ran and ran. Did come home to this tee from Zara though which I'm really pleased with for the cheap as chips price.

Have a lovely night away Rufus and happy birthday for the weekend. Very jealous. Outfits sound amazing.

Have just booked Barcelona for me and DH in October. Haven't left our daughter (almost 2) for more than 1 night previously so will be a real treat.

Dauphin · 23/08/2012 16:31

Woah ! I go away for a few days (Cornwall: lovely, thanks...) and all hell brakes loose!

Fritzi - well done on new thread.
Marsha- Wink
Decam- Ah, hope your relative is on the road to recovery, very soon..

Twas my daughter's and my birthday so a real celebration. Been a bit of a birthday fest here. Dh very sweet and am off to London to do some serious shopping in a few weeks time! So planning the purchases...for AW.

cheesesarnie · 23/08/2012 16:33
