I've been told to dress smart for dinner - dd has chosen a blue and white striped maxi dress from Phase Eight for me to wear. She is sporting a pink dress drowning in sequins, with a purple glittery cardy and a flowery hair clip - she's a very pink girl despite all her friends now telling her pink isn't cool, she won't be budged, which I love, even if I don't love the pink!

MarshaBrady · 22/08/2012 18:50

That sounds great Fritiz!

I've got to admit I have messy-ish blonde hair, so not really polished at all.

Ok want to catch up, but feeling beat. Need to eat and relax. Back later!

Napoleon66 · 22/08/2012 19:03

I'm going to be 46 next week. I often forget my age. Coincidently, this morning whilst breakfasting in a cafe (Madrid) near the office, Erube the barman, guessed i was 38. I should be pleased but that's the oldest anyone has ever thought i was.

Unusually, I'm feeling a bit weird (not sad) about being 46... OFGs I'm going to focus on some fab 45+s like: Yasmin le Bon, Cindy Crawford, Elle MacPhersonn, Nigella Lawson to name but a few, not that i'm like any of them! They make aging seem not such an 'old' thing iykwim.

I've just eaten a whole bar of milk chocolate.

DonaAna · 22/08/2012 19:20

Amber and frumpy - impossible, oxymoron
My monster post got deleted by MNHQ - apparently there was one inappropriate word in it
Big news - DH will fly here just for the weekend. Apparently Rome is empty, hot and boring... I'm so happy not only because he will take along a monster suitcase full of our junk. Might get a winter Burberry too if I play my cards right.

Very good day at work. Love the people, love starting so many new projects and there is a very cute new 20-sth boy there. And love my pseudo Acne boots (perfect for my long size 8 feet: slanted not too high heel, square "cropped" toe).

Fritzi I've gone through the same phases (etnic/ boho phase during my NYC years)! Love your chambray playsuit!

Amber thanks for the recommendation - I might order the American Vintage tee...

Goddess can't wait to hear what season you are!

Mouse and many others, we are about the same age - I'm 39. No problem with 40 - like I said, I'm ready for Advanced Style Grin Between 29 and 39 I've gotten married, lived in 4 countries, had 2 children, completed a few degrees, done many other things - no complaints, have experienced a lot and am so looking forward to the next decade.

Got a vintage cognac satchel on eBay today - Wine to sustainable fashion!

mousemole · 22/08/2012 19:25

Dona I'm a size 8 in shoes too. We need to swap style tips for shoes. Like for example a 41 is not a bloody 8, 42 is.
Next, Clarks and M and S provide some good staples. Mint Velvet have just started doing shoes but suspect their 8 will be small. Where did you get your Acne look a likes ?

ShotgunNotDoingThePans · 22/08/2012 20:00

< Trumps Napoleon >
I'm 49! Feeling a bot wobbly about the next birthday but I'm channelling the 'age is just a number' vibe!
Good idea to look to the Fab Ones - the fleece and comfy slacks/Hotter shoes combo are to be avoided at all costs.

I'm on holiday atm (Cornwall), and was cheered, early this evening, on seeing a woman, probably a bit younger than me, heading out to dinner wearing a white shift dress with blocky stripes (gamine), and some gorgeous magenta suede sandals with a bow on the front. A rare sight indeed this week (smile).

Hence not really shopping just now - need a cross-body bag, though, pref smallish and not ££ . Must apply brain.

DonaAna · 22/08/2012 20:03

Mouse mine are Sixtyseven Elin Clean - made in SpaNin but possibly targeted for Scandinavians. I'm lucky - 41 (sometimes even 40.5) fits me, but prefer the largest possible size because it's freezing here want to slip in a pair of woolen socks and often also cushioning insoles. You should travel in Germany / the Nordics - the local department store here has a lot in 42 and 43. My feet are long and slim - ankles and calves very slim - challenging shape for boots, but these are just right.

Springforward · 22/08/2012 20:04

I bought a rather nice bird print scarf from Gap yesterday, and now am looking forward to a cold day to wear it on.
Smile

ItMakesThePeasTasteFunny · 22/08/2012 20:19

Lovely boots Dona. Springforward - do you have a link for the Gap scarf?

Springforward · 22/08/2012 20:24

This one, I got mine from the Gap outlet store

SpringGoddess · 22/08/2012 20:29

Something has changed in the shoe industry - it seems that size 40 is now a size 7 and 41 has become a size 8 - a new thing for this season, a bloody pain for online shoe shopping!

StrikeAPose · 22/08/2012 20:45

Another size 8 w skinny calves here. Tiresome. On the look out for leopard ballet flats...

Topazandpearl · 22/08/2012 20:51

Snap Shotgun ! I also turn 50 this year. I have only just recently started to feel ok about it. I think that ever since 48, I have been aware of it on the horizon. Although I know it is just a number, it seemed such a no-getting-away-from-it middle-aged number. Still, lately, I have started to feel much more positive about it. I think this is helped by the realisation that I have such a lot of positives in my life and that at 50, we are no longer just waiting to become old, as some of my parents' generation were.

So I am full of good intentions and paying attention to my wardrobe is one of them!

ShotgunNotDoingThePans · 22/08/2012 21:22

Absolutely not waiting to get old, Topaz - glad to see another gimmer mature person here! My own mother is a bit of an inspiration, actually; her style can be a bit hit-and-miss at times, as she shops a lot but doesn't always have the patience to wait for something just right - but she definitely has a young-at-heart outlook (more so than a lot of people much younger than her), and I'm hoping some of that rubs off.

trixymalixy · 22/08/2012 21:25

Evening all. Had fallen back into lurking a bit as have been busy clearing out our lounge ready to start redoing it. I can't wait, we've been putting up with a tartan carpet since we moved in. pickled we used to live in a Victorian semi and I was very clear on what I wanted to do interiors wise. Our current house has had all the original features removed which is why I think I'm struggling a bit. If we put a couple of brown leather sofas in and some twigs and pebbly shit it could be any house on a modern estate but is a lovely character house from the outside.

Dona, I managed to read your monster post before it was deleted, I'm baffled that it was deleted given some of the posts MNHQ don't delete!! I'm v jealous of your lifestyle, it sounds very glam.

I've been looking for a clutch bag to replace my beloved evening bag that fell to bits a few weeks ago. It's not quite what I was looking for, but I bought this in an airforce blue colour in TKmaxx. It looks and feels much more expensive than it was. I was really looking for something a bit taller iyswim.

Apologies for the boring pins on pinterest btw, I'm copying what some of you have done and pinning my wardrobe.

trixymalixy · 22/08/2012 21:28

Oh I also bought some cheapy leopard slipper flats today as I got drenched at lunchtime and didn't want to sit with wet feet all afternoon. I'm not sure about them so didn't want to buy expensive ones if I only wear a couple of times.

ShotgunNotDoingThePans · 22/08/2012 22:05

Clutch sounds nice - must get in to this Pinterest thing - is it pretty self-evident once you sign in? < Dinosaur >

shopafrolic · 22/08/2012 22:34

shotgun so easy and so addictive. Basically mood boards online. If you see a picture you like on a website or blog you simply pin it to your board. I've found it really useful for project planning when we landscaped our garden recently. It's also a great place to share and a great place to dream. Let us know if you set yourself up.

shopafrolic · 22/08/2012 22:40

Love the boots Dona - I wear a 41 too so struggle not to look as though I have clown feet on long legs! Love Hudson shoes for great ankle boots - I linked to a pair ages ago on this thread.
Thanks for being so open about your ages ladies - very inspiring.

rufus101 · 22/08/2012 23:11

I'm 43 on Sunday. I have to say I'm really struggling with it and keep talking sternly to myself. "FFS, you will look back in 10 years and wonder what the hell you were whining about". So I'm delighted to see that you're all flying the flag.
Dona what did you say? I'm intrigued. Especially as we know how bloody long it took HQ to delete those noxious posts on Friday.

girlsofsummer · 22/08/2012 23:50

Rufus happy birthday for this weekend. I have not stressed about my age yet but still late thirties so maybe it will hit soon.

Thanks for all the dyeing tops hopefully and dona xx

DonaAna · 23/08/2012 06:38

On my way to work - kisses to all and a birthday hug for Rufus - and everyone struggling with age issues, Advanced Style here. Can't wait to qualify!

ShotgunNotDoingThePans · 23/08/2012 08:36

Sorry but
GrinhahahahahahahahahaGrin

blossoming · 23/08/2012 08:43

How will you be celebrating rufus? My 42nd coming up soon and I'm struggling for ideas beyond the usual. Would love a few nights in Paris but will have to see how my job situation pans out.
I think as long as you maintain a healthy weight and lifestyle we have nothing to worry about.

shopafrolic · 23/08/2012 08:44

Dona great website - I want to be this lady when I'm older
