DonaAna - thanks for the recommendation :). I think I will get it - I also bought the Vogue "More Dash than Cash" which was mentioned on the thread (for a very thrifty 0.01p on Amazon). Just been out and invested in a couple of the Zara linen tops, thanks Fritzi, and a lovely top from COS.

Pinot · 21/08/2012 16:10

hello :)

I'm clicking all the links and cooing.

Alright Absy, love?

cheesesarnie · 21/08/2012 16:46

i can see in my wardrobe!
im decluttering -and making money for uni books at the same time hopefully!
although i now only have 5 handbags and approx 9 pairs of shoes which makes me nervous!
not clicking any links until after ive brought the blardy books!

shopafrolic · 21/08/2012 17:43

cheesesarnie isn't decluttering great? I'm embarrassed to admit that 10 bags went to the charity shop after my wardrobe edit!
To all who are following the tale:
I had my colours done today by this lovely lady in Hertfordshire-
www.imageconsultanthertfordshire.co.uk/
A little more pricey than HoC but 121 consultation at her home so worth it I thought. I have been diagnosed as Warm Deep (Autumn for those who do it by season) - best neutrals being medium to deep browns and marine navy. Gold jewellery rather than silver or platinum (I won't tell DH that bit!) and no white (!) as I suit cream better. If I have to wear white it should be a chalky white rather than grey. No black either (at least not near my face). I have my little swatch booklet full of lovely reds, corals, golds, camel, olive, some deep purples - apparently I need to invest in a camel coat as it will really suit me. So onwards and upwards to the shop on Saturday.
She has also diagnosed my style as Classic Dramatic so that will be fun to bring to life!
Thanks so much for the top tip - it's been a really positive morning.
I hope everyone has had a good day.

mousemole · 21/08/2012 17:51

Thanks DonaAna will look at that book. I thought it would slow your metabolism down as well but apparently by eating normally every other day you trick your metabolism into keeping at normal speed and not going into starvation mode. I'm sceptical but the reviews are good. I'll keep you posted !Smile

mintgreentiger · 21/08/2012 18:24

so glad your day went well shopafrolic, and thanks for the link. have bookmarked as future possibility!

cheesesarnie · 21/08/2012 18:52

shopafrolic - yep its great. i can actually put things in my wardrobe without it getting squashed Grin. still have to do drawers (wood kind, not knickers).

FritziGreenEyes · 21/08/2012 20:15

mousemole Master your Metabolism by Jillian Michaels is very good too. There is also a cookbook.

shopafrolic How exciting! Hope you are happy with your colours. Enjoy the shopping!

cheesesarnie I'm a devoted declutterer. Much to the despair of my family Smile.

notyummy Sounds like DD is having the time of her life. She will treasure these memories forever. My DD stayed with both her grandparents during the summer holidays and loved it too. Although I doubt they let her blast them with a super-soaker Grin

Not much to report S&B wise as it is still scorching hot here which I love: grey Seafolly bikini and grey embroidered tunic plus pink bead bracelet tonight!

blossoming · 21/08/2012 20:34

shopafrolic, snap on the Dramatic Classic front! You will find your day very worthwhile I'm sure. I have pinned some relevant stuff.,

DonaAna · 21/08/2012 20:46

Oooh Shopafrolic - how exciting! Aren't you happy you did this now - otherwise you might have bought lots of black and white...
And there are some other Classic Dramatics (or the other way around?) here - isn't Bloss one?
Your image consultant looks lovely - mine wore scary colors and naff poly blends so I would not go back to her for style analysis (the color analysis was spot on though). I actually bumped into her recently at a department store here - I had taken off my 6 euro fake Missoni scarf to try something on and she grabbed it

Cheesesarnie just 5 bags! Grin - you really belong here.

The weather here is freezing - down to 12 C I think. Fall clothes feel strange, can't seem to get an outfit together. Luckily back to Italy in about ten days - am not yet ready for wedge desert boots etc.

DonaAna · 21/08/2012 20:49

Oh and Peas keep me posted about that little Vogue book - might spend a penny too but fear it's too dated. Or maybe ready for a comeback already...?

DonaAna · 21/08/2012 20:50

Welcome Pinot!

MarshaBrady · 21/08/2012 21:23

That is lucky Dona! Moving with the seasons Smile

Shopafrolic what a well-considered and smart way to build a new wardrobe, am impressed.

Hi Pinot

What to buy at this time of year? I suppose it will kick off again in September. Just enjoying the daily lull of school holidays (well mostly).

Hopefully · 21/08/2012 21:47

Shop sounds like a great day! I am a fellow autumn, but am natural dramatic rather than classic dramatic.

Am so insanely busy with packing/keeping on top of other business/doing prep work for new business that I literally haven't had a moment to post on here for the past couple of days, but am enjoying keeping up with all the posters, new and old Smile.

shopafrolic · 21/08/2012 21:50

Thanks all. I am so thrilled that I've done it this way - all down to your suggestions. If I knew you personally I'd take you for cocktails to say thanks!
bloss can you DM me your Pin link? I am confused as to who is who. I think only Dona pins under the same name? Or am I tired and confused? Am very keen to get more ideas for Dramatic Classic in advance of Saturday. Thanks!
Dona we used to have Sushi meetings when I worked for Red Letter Days - tell me what it is you do please? I'm sure you've shared many times previously but as the newbie I don't know.....
My mother bought me that Vogue book years ago - will have to head to the loft and dig it out.

bretonbee · 21/08/2012 22:56

hello to all at Mumsnet Vogue....love the title but Sad about W&A...been meaning to post for a few days to say that for me focusing on my style and planning my wardrobe has really helped my confidence over a difficult few months personally - I love that thanks to this thread I have tried on and then bought things such as the animal print skinnies that I wouldn't have otherwise as well as feeling good about my own independent choices so thankyou all.

hello to the new posters - am very sporadic poster I am afraid but also on pin. Pls feel free to follow, I am following some of the regulars. Not much S&B news because have been trying to have a no spend August although now I keep looking at the navy houlis fritzi and wondering if I can squeeze into a 28. Wear my grey agnes to death and could do with a bit more variety!

Apart from that have a very glamorous and exciting 1920s themed party to go to in a few weeks so have been busy pinning some inspiration - such a fun excuse to look at beautiful things!! Definitely going to do some vintage rummaging at the weekend but also quite tempted by this on the outnet....might have to buy to try because really not sure whether it will look good on.

shopafrolic your day sounds lovely - hope your shopping day is equally fun.

cheesesarnie · 21/08/2012 23:18

DonaAna exactly! what is my life coming to!

bretonbee wow to the dress. amazing.

girlsofsummer · 21/08/2012 23:43

DOna thank you so much for such a lovely reply to my last post - really enjoyed it :)

girlsofsummer · 21/08/2012 23:46

and totally aspire to vintage chanel for workwear (as you know!)

Have been thinking about dyeing stuff following inspiration from you and hopefully and used to do it as a teenager but the one thing I used to hate about it was the way the dye would run in every wash afterwards - dont you find this?

Hello breton!

Hopefully · 22/08/2012 06:48

GOS I find that the dye runs a little bit in the first wash, but after that I merrily toss it in with anything and don't get any running. The colour fades maybe a fraction faster than shop bought, but I'm not entirely sure about that as the couple of things I've bought I wear a lot, so they may have faded a bit simply due to more washing. My Me&Em, for instance, is definitely half a shade lighter than when i first dyed it, but I've probably worn and washed it 15-20 times.

MarshaBrady · 22/08/2012 07:31

Hi Breton great to see you. Love that dress!

Shopafrolic me, me am under same name.

GoS you would totally rock vintage Chanel work wear Grin

shopafrolic · 22/08/2012 07:58

Have now got Dona, Marsha and Fritzi on Pin but not sure about Bloss or anyone else. A few new names have popped up following me but not sure how they link to MN names? Anyway - hope to track you all down! Sun shining here, a new mummy has moved to our village and my beautician set me up as the welcome committee so coffee and best smiles at 11am! She has a DD the same age as my DS so fingers crossed everyone gets on as DS doesn't have any playmates in our village - we have to travel a little further afield.
Have a sunny day all.

shopafrolic · 22/08/2012 08:01

Just found breton on Pin - loving the 20s theme! And that dress is beautiful!

shopafrolic · 22/08/2012 08:07

AHA! Have now found blossom too - sorry - there were a lot of Blossoms to choose from!
Has anyone tried these before? I don't usually shop in H&M as the queues always put me off but liked these:

and liked this jacket........

Topazandpearl · 22/08/2012 08:09

This thread is a delight to read (now that those people have gone away). I feel that this is a significant year for me. September always seems more like a fresh start than January, and this year, brings new challenges work-wise, a gradual start to the empty-nest years (as one dc will be at uni and the other is in the final year of school and becoming more independant), oh, and a significant birthday as well (gulp).

With all of that going on, I have decided to develop more confidence in my own taste, to stop waiting til I've lost 10lbs and to shop for, and only wear clothes that make me feel good.

I love reading all your experiences and find the links helpful and inspiring. I have created a pinterest account, and although I am still learning how to use it, I think it will help me to get my ideas together. I'd like to follow some of you, if that is ok?

Oh and good luck with the big shop shopafrolic, will be so looking forward to hearing how it goes!
