For everyone who wants to harp on about their new purchases, enjoys links and some chat. Here is to new beginnings!

A mix, Fritzi, loads of new work shirts (Thomas Pink and TM Lewin, Thomas Pink are nicer but TM Lewin have a great sale), casual clothes from Boden, Gant, Nautica, about 20 pairs of socks and boxers! He is quite preppy, wears chinos and blue shirts even at the weekend. He needs some gym stuff, not sure where to get that and he doesn't want to spend much. And it must be navy!

Hope the J Brands survived, I'm sure they will.

AuldAlliance · 20/08/2012 10:26

Popping my head above the parapet again.

I live in the South of France and it is lovely in many ways.

The weather just now is so hot, though, that my DC are climbing the walls as it's hard to do outdoors stuff in the daytime and they have trouble getting to sleep at night. The summer holidays are really long (4th July-4th Sept) and they are getting bored. I take the boys to the nearby lake almost every evening, which is nice, and I do sip a little too much local rosé when DH is around, though I sadly tend to look more frazzled than cool and chic.
But I occasionally hanker after a warm, sunny day back in the town where I grew up in the UK, and I especially long for cool nights. The grass is always greener...

Clotheswise, I've been planning my purchases for after the holidays.

The weather here goes from hot to warm to cold and windy and there is relatively little scope for in-between type clothes (l-sleeved shirts, etc.). I've been eyeing up these shoes here, though am not sure about the colour.

And I like this jacket (obv not to go with the shoes, but I think it'd be good for work).

I can't do skinnies, as they just look daft on me, so have been struggling to find some new trousers.
Any ideas?

AmberNectarine · 20/08/2012 10:31

Oh I'd be quite happy with the lovely hot days - just the nights I object to. When I went into the room the baby and I are currently sharing last night, my glasses steamed up. How can anyone sleep in that?!

Have had a nightmare morning. We are off to Majorca in just under 2 weeks and like a fool I hadn't bothered doing anything about getting the baby a passport. When I did it with DS it was easy peasy, so naturally I assumed it would be the same - phone up, get an appointment, pop down there, passport in a few days. Oh, no. Only appointment they had which would get it to me in time was on Friday, at 12.30pm, in Liverpool. A 13mo and a 2.8yr old on a 2.5hr train journey there and back. Lovely! Luckily I kept phoning back and a cancellation popped up in London for tomorrow, when I conveniently have childcare for the eldest. Thank you universe, don't mind if I do! Might even do a bit of shopping aftwerwards Wink

AmberNectarine · 20/08/2012 10:34

Oh decam I'd love a preppy husband! Mine takes the opposite approach of being super smart at work, and jeans and endless t-shirts at weekends.

AmberNectarine · 20/08/2012 10:35

That came out wrong - like your DH he is super smart at work, but takes opposite approach of dressing down at weekends.

pickledsiblings · 20/08/2012 10:38

Phew, that was lucky Amber, I 've been waiting 4 weeks for DS2's and DD's.

AuldAlliance, great jacket! That berry colour is lovely. I have a charcoal grey one (similar) that I have worn to death.

DonaAna · 20/08/2012 10:44

Auld this thread clearly has a Club Med feel - heatwave in the cool countries and style correspondents from France, Spain and Turkey. I normally post in Rome but am cooling off ATM near the Arctic circle Grin
Waves to Deca, Fritzi and Marsha!

Eyes perfectly healthy and to my surprise my employer paid for the checkup (worth at least one pair of premium denim).
Have two work meetings in the afternoon but am taking a break to wash my hair and do my makeup and MN.

GoS I love the idea of a 2nd hand dress - keep us posted! People are generally so self-centered that they don't notice what others are wearing. They notice if you look unusually striking or if something is off. For that reason, I sometimes repeat wear things (perhaps with different accessories). Love your commitment to slow fashion - have been considering a new sewing machine (the old one broke during our relocation). Made a smaller move towards slow fashion by purchasing 400g of wool in a perfect shade of blue plus some, knitting needles and a knitting pattern.

FritziGreenEyes · 20/08/2012 10:47

deca Why does your DH insist on navy gym stuff? Has he had his colours done? Wink

OP posts:
FritziGreenEyes · 20/08/2012 10:51

auld I can imagine that the novelty of the heat wears off pretty quickly if you have it every day. And for DH it was no fun putting on a suit and tie this morning.

dona Must be a relief to hear that your eyes are ok.

AmberNectarine · 20/08/2012 10:52

I have that Hush jacket pinned AA, I think it will be a great casual staple.

ShotgunNotDoingThePans · 20/08/2012 11:02

Lovely jacket. Dressipi found me this one - maybe too cheap and cheerful!

AmberNectarine · 20/08/2012 11:03

Good drop on the Outnet this morning. Best gone already though.

ItMakesThePeasTasteFunny · 20/08/2012 11:10

Auld - another European here (though more likely to ellicit Biscuit than Envy). Why don't you get on with skinnies? For me, it's because I fear I'm going to look like Max Wall

alwaysrunninginheels · 20/08/2012 11:22

Oh i like that jacket AA. Tried this on this morning and this . Both quite good but will see all the links here before deciding.

Talk to me about leather trousers PLEASE!!!! What would you wear with them and when would you were them????? How tight? How long? Everything....please!

DonaAna · 20/08/2012 11:27

Outnet indeed very good today!
Peas mwah mwah mwah Grin
Auld I wear a bootcuts and flares a lot. They really flatter my proportions. Don't forget straight legs and cigarrette trousers either.

Looking for the perfect layering top to wear under fitted cropped jackets? Loose and flowing, perhaps white or cream, posibly even navy, with a curved hem, natural fibers. Anyone seen any?

Hair blowdried, wearing Rocannes the fluoro coral Zara boucle jacket (fixed the unraveling parts with a crochet needle), ready for anything!

FritziGreenEyes · 20/08/2012 11:52

dona Zara linen T? or short sleeved here

blossoming · 20/08/2012 12:20

I am super hot too, but we have fierce air con inside our log cabin and the dcs are quite perky. I'm sitting outside though. Just had lunch, taking it slow. Even DH is less stressed. Have done the washing...

Well done on shopping for your DH decam. Let me guess, navy and grey Boden houlihans?

Hi to everyone, old and new posters, DS is challenging me to scrabble. He's going to want me to lose isn't he...

AuldAlliance · 20/08/2012 12:25

Glad the jacket meets with some approval. Might just order it.

Why the Biscuit ItMakesThePeas...?

I have wide hips and very skinny legs, and just don't like the way skinnies exacerbate that.
I wear Gap sexy boot jeans or slightly flared trousers and they suit me far better, though probably infringe some arcane MN rules. Wink

The heat is wearing when you have to carry on everyday life in it. We lived in the tropics for 9yrs and summers were tough; the last few days here have been like that. It's OK if you are by a pool/lake all day, but not for shopping, laundry, lugging rubbish to wheelie bin, etc.

StrikeAPose · 20/08/2012 12:33

Skinnies aren't quite right on me. I like gap always skinny, but others just accentuate my carrot shape/chicken legs. Gap long and lean are good for me. Viva la bootcut revolucion!
Good to hear about 7fam length - I'm saving for premium denim, but am also in the 33" club.

Yes to the jacket aa. I might jump on the bandwagon too - makes a change from my navy rut.

Glad you got the passport sorted amber (and whoop to the bonus shopping time Grin).

Envy to everyone under the sun. Lovely Midlands drizzle here and a toddler w attitood.

Decameron · 20/08/2012 12:37

We were in New York for five years and I was always quite glad to see the end of summer. 40 celcius is not very pleasant when waiting on a non-airconditioned subway platform.

I went for black and grey, Bloss as I have J Brand majors in navy and black. Close though!

Fritzi, he knows what he likes and he likes what he knows. Grin He is quite pale so won't wear black or white. He only likes navy, maroon/wine, khaki, pale pink or blue work shirts, sometimes a very dark red. He is very fussy about the colours I put on the girls too (they have his lovely fair skin not my freckles). He'd probably make a good HOC consultant!

Decameron · 20/08/2012 12:37

AuldAlliance, I am jealous. I'll be retiring to the south of France. Not quite sure how I'll fund it yet.

pickledsiblings · 20/08/2012 12:48

AA, the only thing putting me off ordering the blazer is that you have to pay for returns (+ delivery) - do Hush ever do free delivery and returns?

rufus101 · 20/08/2012 12:49

Fritzi I have those tees! The short sleeved ones. I have the navy stripe and the one with stars. (You'd like Ollie) I couldn't find them to link when I got them so thank you. Really recommend. Great lengthy and lo

rufus101 · 20/08/2012 12:49

Great length and look good with skinnies!
iPhone fail. Typing with one hand!

pickledsiblings · 20/08/2012 12:54

I like the look of this black leather bag from Hush, silver hardware, suitably slouchy and adjustable strap position - still the same problem with returns though.
