Fritzi try German tomato soup? Grin Seriously, the Sonett soap is amazing.
Christ, I've just ruined MN Vogue by sharing stain removal tips. Shock Ban me now.

I love Pin followers - it's the perfect place for exchanging ideas with friends and strangers - so feel free to jump in! I just checked Shopafrolic's pins and love them. But agree with Strikeapose - it's a good idea to pick great basics. I have far too many party dresses. Solution: I wear many of them at home every day (not the Lanvin though). My style compromises: no stilettos, ever, prefer wedges and rubber soles for walking, and tolerate some polyester (because it's plastic and easy to care for). And I don't wear a lot of pattern. Pattern is not for everyone - particularly if you have dramatic tendencies. I mostly wear bright solids - Liberty prints would look ghastly on me.

ShotgunNotDoingThePans · 19/08/2012 20:26

Fleecy that blouse is gorgeous! Was it you who mentioned the Natural Ingenue? Looks perfect (I'm a Classic I).
So envious of you and your HoC connection Hopefully - I'd love to train but they already have people in my area, although, in spite of there being officially no vacancies, the names seem to change every couple of years, plus they have 'associates' they refer clients to, which makes me think the consultants must recommend their friends to fill any slots that do come up.
Hey ho.

Must look into this Pinterest thing you all speak of - any clues for a beginner?

FritziGreenEyes · 19/08/2012 20:26

Taking orders for German oxgall soap now. Our nanny always used it on DD's clothes and it is indeed brilliant.

shotgun I'm the Ingenue Natural. Although was first "diagnosed" as a Classic I. Consultant had a sleepless night because she could see that her diagnosis didn't sit right with me. She called me next morning and we met for coffee for a re-assessment. Can't tell you how relieved I was. Smile

Shopafrolic Lucky you, a fab present! I second others by suggesting a HoC Colour analysis and style day.

Fleecy I tend to buy in h&m, Zara, Blanca, Sefra, Oysha, to name a few - all Spanish high street brands - mainly because they're within my budget. I LOVE h&m, especially the section that is very COS-like itsa little more expensive in relation to their general stuff but so worth it.

MarshaBrady · 19/08/2012 20:41

Shopafrolic what a great present. Do you know where you will go?

Lovely blouse Fritzi

Iwannamovenow · 19/08/2012 22:21

Runs in and whispers...

Uggs are on brand alley today, i've just ordered some grey ones.

Runs out again...

wellwisher · 19/08/2012 22:28

Love the J brand houlis on outnet (I have H&M rip-offs) but what size is J Brand 30? is it a 12? but if they come up small like it says on the site, that would really be a 10... so how can they go all the way down to 23? that would be smaller than size 0!!! Who are these people? I suspect there is no point in me even thinking about them given that I seem to mostly be a 14 these days... Sad

FritziGreenEyes · 19/08/2012 22:36

wellwisher I'm a size 10-12 and wear JBrands in 28. I guess Houlis in 30 would be ok for size 12-14 then.

On that note: Have just discovered that I have thrown in my beloved JBrand floral skinnies in a 40 degree wash. They are strictly comd wash only. Don't know if I'll ever be brave enough to try them on again.

Just re read the last 2 chapters of Overdressed - need some sewing lessons so I can start reconstructing my wardrobe Grin need a sewing machine first.

Have wedding next weekend and realised I havent even thought about what I will wear want to find something second hand and amazing otherwise will be forced to wear something I have worn to other weddings with some of the same people...

wish me luck with this!

pickledsiblings · 19/08/2012 23:16

A 30 in Houlis would definately approximate a size 14.

Freshletticialongjump · 19/08/2012 23:31

Oh, these www.amazon.co.uk/Dr-Martens-Polished-Laredo-Leather/dp/B006PFD71I have been a bloody Godsend this wet summer. Have hardly got my sandals out at all :(
Very comfy.

AmberNectarine · 20/08/2012 07:33

Agree 30 would be 14ish. I'm a 10 and I wear a 27. fritzi I have been known to stick my J Brand in a 40 wash and they are none the worse for it. I think the reason it is best avoided is it does something to the elastane so they don't fit as snugly over time, but I shouldn't think one accidental wash will make much difference.

I feel traitorous saying this, but I hope it cools down a bit - shocker of a night, the baby thrashed around non-stop. Plus I want to wear my high tops!

MidnightinMoscow · 20/08/2012 08:10

Hello - thought I might pop my head in, and talk J b
Brands!

Pickled I find that the variance in sizing is when you try on indigo JB's. They have less elastin in them (2% less I think) than black ones. Therefore I take a 29 in indigo but a 28 in black and other colours.

Nice to see people here, old and new. Smile

MarshaBrady · 20/08/2012 08:13

Oh a nice thing to see hi MiM and Amber Smile

shopafrolic · 20/08/2012 08:24

Shopping day is in London meeting at Selfridges. I had a wardrobe edit with the woman a few weeks ago and cleared out loads of old tat and things which despite my best efforts no longer fit me. Now I need to fill the gaps. I need skirts, dresses, blouses, a casual jacket or coat, trousers (too many jeans). Thanks to all for the tips. I will definitely make a list before I go and it was good to be reminded that I don't need to spend it all in one day! Am concerned I may get carried away!
Dona thanks for the Pin follow - I loved yours too especially some of the block colour - v inspiring!
I have had a reply back from a local colours lady but nothing from HoC yet - I fear it may be too short notice...
On the subject of J Brands..are they long in the leg? I am a 33 leg normally (32 at a push) and seem to remember trying them once and they came up short? Any tips?

DonaAna · 20/08/2012 08:40

Hi Shopafrolic and morning all! ( Special wave to MiM!)
I don't wear J Brands - not readily available where I live - but my ideal jean leg length is 33" and many I've tried are frustratingly short. I'm clearly a denim conservative and love 7 For All Mankind. Always long enough. Hate too short jeans - with my stick limbs I look horrible in cropped jeans.

I routinely wash everything in 40 C btw and at least MiH and 7FAM hold up well!

blossoming · 20/08/2012 08:40

shopaholic, I think I'm following you now. Do a search of Pins under Wardrobe essentials. Can't link, but there are some great ideas there.

Lots of people have boards under Great Style. Maybe you could work out your style from there. My style is dictated by the weather unfortunately, but it is still pared down, classic, with some 'edge' needed.

DonaAna · 20/08/2012 08:41

Never go out without makeup obviously

DonaAna · 20/08/2012 08:44

Hi Bloss - my style choices are also dictated by the weather - after a lovely hot weekend it's now 14 C Sad

AmberNectarine · 20/08/2012 08:45

Marsha you'll never get rid of me!

Yes agree that indigo 'proper denim' as opposed to twill J Brands come up smaller. If anything those Olympia wash ones are a little bit looser than average as they areade of quite a lightweight fabric. They are very comfy though.

MarshaBrady · 20/08/2012 08:57

Amber I love your funny posts which make me laugh and your shopping excellence. So that is good to hear!

Ok am in pjs need to do something back later to catch up.

Decameron · 20/08/2012 09:47

Hi, I was going to avoid Mumsnet for a while but this thread is now filled with nice, normal posters! And MiM is back. :)

Doghouse Thanks, thanks. It must be hard with your DH away.

Shopafrolic, great present. I am tall too and wear the J Brand twills in the summer, it looks ok with sandals, I think, but wear Paige/Goldsign more in the winter. I had Houlihans in a 29 and I am uk12.

These Boden (I know, not very Vogue!) cargos are quite like houlihans and come in a longer length, I liked them so much I ordered a second pair.

Dona, hope your appointment goes well. Your DvF dress is beautiful, btw.

Lurkingaround, I have a couple of DKNY jackets and a DvF dress that must be 10 years old or so and are still in perfect condition. I still love those labels and watch out for them in the sales or when friends/dh go to the US. I have an order arriving next week. :)

Helped DH order a load of new clothes (first time in years and everything he owns is falling apart) and he ordered me a lovely White Co cashmere cardigan as a thank you. It is very plain but I like it.

Amber, DD2 can't take the heat either and was up several times in the night. Zzzzzzzzzzzzz. It has been nice eating outside at night, swigging wine and pretending we were in the south of France though!

FritziGreenEyes · 20/08/2012 10:00

amber and deca Sorry to hear that your DDs are having trouble sleeping in the heat. But I love this hot, scorching weather for the reasons deca has mentioned: For a few days a year, I can pretend that I live in the South of France or in Italy. Sitting outside with a chilled glass of white wine in the evenings is total bliss. And dressing in the mornings is just so easy (unless you have to dress formally for work): Just throw on a dress and sandals and go!

amber That's very reassuring re the JBrands. Will try them on later.

deca What did you order for DH? Work clothes or casual? Think DH needs some decent casual stuff for A/W too.
