I wondered where you'd been hiding! I'm one of the lurkers, usually too scared to post but I have a question to ask and I thought you might be well placed to help. I'm kind of anxious about asking as I don't want to get loads of haters and there seemed to be quite a lot of negativity knocking about earlier but I'm hoping they've all moved on.
I'm 39 turning 40 Shock in November. As my present my DH has given me £1000 to spend on a day out with a personal shopper. I feel really overwhelmed as have never had this amount of money to spend in one hit and I want to spend it wisely. But I have no idea where to start. I have an 18mth DS so things need to be washable and I am usually fairly rubbish with man made fabrics as they make me sweat Blush.
I have been told I am missing blouses, dresses, trousers from my wardrobe (I live in skinnies, t-shirts and these boots www.hudsonshoes.com/horrigan-beige-suede.html most of the time. I have also been told I lack colour and print. I have short dark hair, am 5ft 9 with 32 inch legs, size 14, fair skin.
Am a little terrified that I may come home with £1,000 worth of clothes that I will never wear. How can I avoid making mistakes? What would you buy?
Have started to collate some ideas here.....

Hope you ladies can help as you seem to be a friendly bunch with some great ideas.........

ItMakesThePeasTasteFunny · 19/08/2012 10:03

Wow Shopafrolic - what a lovely present. I'll be watching with interest as am the same height and size (12/14 - but with a monster huge chest!).

shopafrolic · 19/08/2012 10:05

It is a GREAT present peas but a little daunting. I used to have a monster chest - then I BF. Now I am moulded bra woman! Grin

Hopefully · 19/08/2012 10:17

Shop I would totally recommend spending a little bit of it on a colour analysis before you go, if you can spare the time. You can give your swatch book to the personal shopper (most colour consultants also do personal shopping trips if you prefer that) and make sure everything (a) flatters your colouring and (b) co-ordinates.

shopafrolic · 19/08/2012 10:28

Tell me more Hopefully - I am not sure where to get this done? Have googled before without success. Can you recommend?

shopafrolic · 19/08/2012 10:41

Have just found a couple of image consultants and fired out some emails. Fingers crossed.

ShotgunNotDoingThePans · 19/08/2012 10:43

Shopaholic I agree - go to House of Colour and find out your best colours. You could also invest in a style day afterwards - then you might find you have enough information and confidence to do the shopping yourself - or you'll be able to make the perfect choices for you from the things the personal shopper brings you.
HoC's website has a search facility for regional consultants.

trixymalixy · 19/08/2012 10:56

Wow shopafrolic, what a lovely present. I'm also the same height and size, so will watch with interest.

I love that blue dress you have pinned. I'm so tempted by it, but don't have an occasion to buy it for.

ItMakesThePeasTasteFunny · 19/08/2012 11:07

Hi Trixy and Shopafrolic - can I follow on you on Pinterest? Have just created a profile and am all ready to go! I am 4pawedwondermutt - don't ask!

shopafrolic · 19/08/2012 11:14

trixy I stole the blue dress from this group so can't take the credit for that one! Wink
peas followers welcome although I'm a bit hit and miss on the frequency of pins!

shopafrolic · 19/08/2012 11:15

shotgun thanks for the HoC referral - I've sent them an email
Shopping day already booked for this Saturday so too late to change.....

Rednails · 19/08/2012 11:18

I've been reading the s&b threads for the last year or so and they have inspired me.
I read quite a few of the w&a threads. Personally I would never be able to afford many of the gorgeous items from them but they opened my eyes to all the lovely possibilities there were out there and that's partly why I started reading them in the first place.
I'd like to say a big thank you to all of the genuine contributors on those threads and this one for that.
I hope you all carry on posting and don't let the idiocy of some, spoil what is for many I'm sure, a very happy and inspirational place.

trixymalixy · 19/08/2012 11:21

Itmakes, you are very welcome to follow me on Pinterest, but like shopafrolic, I'm a bit hit and miss and not sure my style is something to aspire to!!!!

shopafrolic · 19/08/2012 11:22

what Rednails said Smile

FritziGreenEyes · 19/08/2012 13:39

Sympathies to all Bursitis/Arthritis sufferers. Sound very painful. I have only very annoying bunions (not as bad as VB's I hasten to add) and feel very sorry for myself that I cannot run around in high heels all day every day like I used to. Oh well...

dona Wow, a party penthouse. Sounds fabulous! Hope your DD is ok and you have worn the Lanvin. Love your passion for perfumery.

mousemole Hope it's hot enough where you live and you get to wear your yellow Odabash kaftan today. Sounds absolutely gorgeous!

hopefully I applaud you for moving house in great style. Smile

shopafrolic What a generous and fantastic present! Don't think you have to spend it all on the day with the personal shopper. Maybe try on loads to get some new ideas, try out different shapes/styles than you would usually wear. Buy a few pieces you love. Take lots of pics. Then have consultation and come back after to spend the rest. I can so recommend a colour and style consultation. Makes you a lot more focussed and confident when it comes to choosing clothes.

The wraparound bit of your Hudson ankle boots is great! I like millie's ankle boots (in Mushroom) too. Clearly inspired by Ash Jalouse and IM Dicker boots.

I love, love, love Pinterest! Have hardly bought any magazines since pinning.

ants Shopping update from Westfield please! Smile Which green do you have in your kitchen? Love F&B colours.

trixy I find shopping for interiors a lot more rewarding than clothes shopping. It is amazing how a room can be transformed with just a few pieces/changes. I have recently decorated our bedroom and feel happy every time I walk into the room. Looking for a dressing table and armchair now.

I really like this silk blouse. Also available in olive green for those of you who are Autumns.

FritziGreenEyes · 19/08/2012 13:59

Navy Houlis anyone? I have two pairs and still like them. Although there are some very good HS copies Wink

OP posts:
Millie1 · 19/08/2012 14:18

I haven't ordered the boots yet though they're in my basket. Is the brown a bit dowdy Fritzi - I did consider the mushroom because they are taking after the Jalouse. Maybe Mushroom would be better - okay with navy skinnies?

FritziGreenEyes · 19/08/2012 14:40

millie I'm just not a big fan of brown shoes because they don't really go with my clothes. Mushroom and navy absolutely fine I think. Why did they call those boots "Melanie Jane" though? Very bad choice of name, non? Confused

Hopefully · 19/08/2012 14:48

Shop I am such a convert I am actually now associated with HoC (depending on where you are, you may be emailing me...), but many other ladies on this thread are also huge believers, so I don't feel like I'm just trying to persuade you to like some random thing! If you are considering it I would, in all seriousness, attempt to book it soon so you can return anything 'wrong' from your shopping trip if you want to.

blossoming · 19/08/2012 14:58

So tempted by those houlihans fritzi, but confused re sizing. Or confusing them with Agnes? I'm still away though. Moving campsites today and sitting in a sweltering hot 'bouchon' in hot pink Forever 21 shorts and black tank.
Can't scroll back but there was a great 30 essential wardrobe items on Pin the other day, on women's fashion, could help you focus on a Personal shopping day, and definitely HoC colour and style shopafrolic.
Follow me on Pin and I'll follow you back..!
Kind words from so many lovely posters over the past few days. Thank you all. I am feeling a bit tearful (hangover doesn't help) about everything that's happened.

blossoming · 19/08/2012 15:00

hopefully, hope all goes well in your new home and that your business takes off!

Millie1 · 19/08/2012 15:49

Thanks Fritiz - decided to order the mushroom as I had a lightbulb moment whilst ironing - already have brown Chelsea boots so would be silly to order brown.

notyummy · 19/08/2012 16:52

Bloss- isn't it the Agnes that are massive? It is sweltering here as well- finally. Went got another run this morning at my parents and got lost so was out for 11/2 hours when I meant to run for 45 mins Shock. Def think it justified this afternoons slice of cake though.

So looking forward to pay day and new trainers and a Zara trip.

shopafrolic · 19/08/2012 17:26

How to find you all on Pinterest??? I'm Shopafrolic1 I think.......There's a link to my board above.
Blossoming - no tears - just lots more fashion tips please. You guys have been so welcoming - I was worried. Thank you.
Hopefully - have sent the email - I'm in Herts. I've always wanted it done so fingers crossed and thanks.

Sitting sweltering with a screaming hungry DS so will dash for now.
