For everyone who wants to harp on about their new purchases, enjoys links and some chat. Here is to new beginnings!

NB, most Uggs have crap arch support, from what i've seen, so not great for long walks. A pair of (gasp) Clarks biker boots or something might be a enter alternative? Uggs also always seem to lose their grip on pavements in the rain (based on my observation of wealthy students round us)

StrikeAPose · 18/08/2012 18:05

Yes, biker boots are probably more me. Although I tried on the Roxy today, and DH just laughed. Lots. Grin

Celtic sheepskin look worth checking out, thanks.

Congrats on the move hopefully

mousemole · 18/08/2012 18:45

My fitflop boots were brilliant last winter. Cosy sheepskin but good arch support too.

Millie1 · 18/08/2012 18:59

So glad the A&W Ladies have stuck around! What does anyone think of these ankle boots for winter? 20% off at Clarks (if anyone wants the code shout and I'll dig it out when kids are in bed) so not too bad a price. Hmm assuming the code works on purchases of that price - will check!

dexter73 · 18/08/2012 19:03

I would love the code Millie - I have my eye on those boots too!

Hopefully · 18/08/2012 19:04

It occurs to me, after helping to empty a transit van, that versatile and stylish as a jersey pencil skirt and casual silk shirt are, they are perhaps not ideal house-moving attire. In my defence, I was working earlier Grin

SoBo1 · 18/08/2012 19:06

Please mums do not buy Fit flops they are the most unflattering shoe ever! You'd be better off just going to the gym or just walking quicker. Take my advice......! :o)

StrikeAPose · 18/08/2012 19:07

But hopefully, I bet the new neighbours are impressed Grin.

I am loving my 95% organic cotton, stripy, clingy maternity dress. Less than a tenner, just wish they did more colours (h&m).

cheesesarnie · 18/08/2012 19:41

Hopefully- agree, bet the neighbours are very impressed by their chic new neighbour!

AmberNectarine · 18/08/2012 20:04

Oh my god, I am so bored of the fitflop bashing. Yes they are ugly, and no they don't tone your arse, but they do ease my very painful hip bursitis and early onset arthritis. Most people who wear fitflops wear them for genuine orthopaedic reasons, not because they are so stupid they think they will have a backside like Kylie after a traipse round Tesco.

AmberNectarine · 18/08/2012 20:05

Sorry, getting a bit aerated there, but fed up of feeling like a pariah!

Phaedra11 · 18/08/2012 20:25

I also have hip bursitis and arthritis in my knees and ankles and wondered about starting a thread asking what shoes other people with these sort of issues wore!

At 5 ft 3'', I like a bit of height but the only heels I've found that I'm comfortable in are my FlyLondon wedges. Loved them at first but think they're beginning to look a bit old!

This summer I've been wearing my Birkenstocks with trousers and some Scholl sandals with dresses. Maybe I should look at fitflops (iPad keeps trying to write fitful ops!!)

AmberNectarine · 18/08/2012 20:39

They're not beautiful by any means, but I find them such a help. Really recommend.

Napoleon66 · 18/08/2012 20:56

Fleecy I'm in Madrid.

I have never intentionally bought designer rip-offs, NO that's a lie, many moons ago as a flight attendant, I was always buying fake stuff in Bangkok. In recent years i havent really. To be honest, Designer stuff doesn't really do it for me, I like style and am becoming more aware of what suits me and my character.

I've only recently felt confident about what suits me. Next year when i'm debt-free I will treat myself to two things, (i) a Chanel purse/wallet (i realise i've just contradicted myself!) my handbag was stolen here a few years ago and ever since i've been using an ugly old one that's falling apart - the new one as well as being gorgeous, will also be symbolic of my new start of wise shopping and being in credit.. and (ii) a HOC style day. Can't wait.

I sunbathed a bit too long today and my face is a bit pink. I used to be so careful with high spfs but now after yrs I love having a golden tan. A funny thing about sunny Spain is that there are so many tanning shops and they always seem busy!

Phaedra11 · 18/08/2012 20:58

Thanks Amber.

Millie1 · 18/08/2012 21:24

Dexter - good, glad someone else likes them. The code is BEYOU12 for 20% off a minimum spend of £39.99. Am going to order the brown which is a nice colour IRL. Should really have got them in the shop today as I would have saved on postage but never mind!

dexter73 · 18/08/2012 22:33

Thanks for the code I have just ordered the boots. Clarks offer free p&p and returns for online orders so don't worry about the postage.

Hopefully · 18/08/2012 22:42

What is hip bursitis?

Fleecy · 18/08/2012 23:05

Ah napoleon a lovely city but a good 4h or so I think?

I thought I might have found a fellow Style and Beauty poster near me before we'd even moved - bit of a long shot though, given the size of Spain Grin

Do you mainly shop in H&M/Zara? That seemed to be the thing when I was there earlier this year and our au pair (from Ciudad Real) shops in those two and Primark.

I have Uggs. I am not ashamed because they are warm and comfy. Yet I turn my nose up at my mother's Hotter-esque sandals. Perhaps a little unfair!

Portia4 · 18/08/2012 23:14

Glad you asked Hopefully!

NanAstley · 19/08/2012 02:29

Hopefully your moving attire reminds me of Hollywood films where the lady of the house supervises the moving in of all furniture clad in impossibly tight pencil skirt and silk top with a full face of make up Grin I bet the neighbours are feeling inadequate now Grin

Who really thinks that Fitflops tones muscles?? They are by far the most comfortable flip flops in the market and that is why I bought them. I own shoes ranging from killer heels to comfy flats, and there is place in my life for all of them

mousemole · 19/08/2012 06:01

So bored of fit flop bashing also. I have hip bursitis too from running and they help. I actually think the boots look better than Uggs.
Best summer buy was my Melissa Odabash kaftan in yellow. Just fabulous. About to start saving for some J Brand Maria's and some Ash boots in grey.

DonaAna · 19/08/2012 07:15

A quick hello from the party penthouse - just waking up. Am so enjoying the quality discussions here. Loving Mumsnet Vogue - I knew this would be much better than the original.

What happened under the stars? A small balcony, a dozen lovely people, some of them sharing smokes. Lovely, inspired exchanges of ideas. So, just some moments I will remember forever...

Well, my bit of supporting original creations is being friends with quite a few indie parfumeurs. I collect their scents, go to the artistic perfumery fairs in Italy and spend time with them. Some have become good friends. So I get to smell things that cannot be bought anywhere (wearing now something that will be released next month).

Anyhow, keep up the lovely discussions, BBL, and waves to other expats!

AmberNectarine · 19/08/2012 09:20

Hopefully Bursitis and the reason why I end most days a cripple, as of course, you can't take anything for it when bf!

lurkingaround · 19/08/2012 09:47

So, am back lurking, after a break last Friday. Glad to see all is well.

With all this talk of designer versus high street, I began to wonder: do I have favorite pieces from my 'buying clothes' life. And it turns out I do. And they are both designer pieces (from when I could afford), one is 9 years old. The other is 13. And I still wear them from time to time.

I had thought all fashion has a day, seems I'm a bit wrong. Does anyone else have favorite pieces and are they designer or high street?
