For everyone who wants to harp on about their new purchases, enjoys links and some chat. Here is to new beginnings!

OP posts:
AmberNectarine · 17/08/2012 23:58

I do use her with her strap blue, and I feel fine about it. In fact the idea of adding a chain strap makes me think 2.55 which I think of as a proper 'grown-up' bag. I only wear her cross body though, which detracts from any primness too, and I always clash. So if I've got green Gracie I might wear a bright pink scarf or purple shoes or a neon watch.

BelaLug0si · 18/08/2012 00:00

Anyone interested in leather leggings, I posted some links here note that they aren't completely leather (front only) but this approach makes them easier to wear.
Am considering ordering a custom item full leather but with cyclist legs, not sure that's a good idea.
The leggings have been brilliant under tunics and dresses.

BelaLug0si · 18/08/2012 00:03

Er sorry just realised am a bit of a gatecrasher here! Love Cos, Jil Sander, Margaret Howell, Essentiel (the plain stuff), Dries, Old Town, Esther Perbandt, Emma Griffiths and hunting down bargains on eBay.
May lurk a little Smile

girlsofsummer · 18/08/2012 00:06

Yes to bargains I am ALL about the bargain.

But agree with some of what Mignonette says (maybe said a little ungracefully but appreciate some of the sentiment esp just having read the book Overdressed)

justasecond · 18/08/2012 00:16

An occaisonal lurker here. Its actually taken me all evening to work out whats gone on with the W&A thread and that this is the replacement thread (I think?) Anyway love all the links (but not the nastiness) , you ladies do perform a very important service. So far for A/W i have bought
uniqlo cords in olive
mango ankle boots
a black and white sort of zebra print scarf from Zara
I also have my eye on
zara grey jumper was styled with these in store today
khaki trs
also like
coat
cobalt coat
but being a sahm who only really leaves the house for school run or child related activites it may be a bit on the smart side.

ShotgunNotDoingThePans · 18/08/2012 00:47

I'm still none the wiser about what's gone on - posted a bit under another name when W&A started, but never really felt avid enough to do more than lurk and occasionally post with finds.
Haven't even lurked for a few months now - had other calls on time and finance so there didn't seem much point in tormenting myself looking at what I couldn't buy.
Might lurk and post here now as I'm feeling like I need to sharpen up a bit.
I'm intrigued that people are already buying for A/W - maybe that explains why I struggle to find decent boots and knitwear - sensible folk plan ahead!

I was thrilled to see ankle boots in burgundy and navy in R&B the other day; I'm a summer and avoid black like the plague, and get tired of the brown alternative.
At the other end of the spectrum, I actually saw some Not Bad boots on the Tesco's website - not leather obvs, but might give them a punt to see if I can last all day in heels without spending a fortune to find out!

Best buy this 'summer' - probably the green Whistles skinnies. Got them in a sort of soft aqua as well and wear them loads. I've waited years for this coloured jeans moment - it's not long since they were considered the costume of kids' tv presenters but I'm thrilled they've finally arrived! < tragic>

DonaAna · 18/08/2012 06:42

Morning all (it's morning on this time zone anyway)...
Woke up when my mother called - DD2 is crying because her mummy isn't there. My heart aches for her Sad Sad Sad
Can't go there so am trying to console myself with commenting here and by trying to learn a few new names.

Shotgun colored denim (at least soft red) is always in fashion in Italy. I have a pair of emerald cigarrette trousers from Zara (love to pair them with a white tuxedo shirt - Always and I have been looking for the perfect white shirt and it's not as simple as it sounds). Have tried a few pairs of colored skinnies but they do not look right on me. Amber is the master of that genre Grin

Yy to colored ankle boots (possible exception - bright red). Have a few navy pairs from last AW and have seen the most delectable pair of burgundy pair of Chelsea boots in the Armani men's collection

Blue I wear my green Mini Gracie with a silver chain strap. Have not worn it in the past month because I'm travelling somewhere very far north (clue: near where Acne comes from) and many people here are very desing-focused and dress in a simpler, more streamlined way. The bright green Zatchel is just right here - will combine it today with beige pointy flats, leather look leggings and my royal blue Marni coat. Will wear the Mini Gracie a lot again in Sept in Rome where it fits in much better.

I wish I had a Mini Gracie in creamy ivory / soft rose beige (Anya Hindmarch people, if you are reading, this is a wish you can fulfill)! The past season Nude was not right for me but I really need a more conservative bag in that size in Rome. Have already considered a Miss Dior (????, AH pricing much more appealing).

I kind of like Mignonnette's take on design - a few of us have read and enjoyed 'Overdressed' and are trying to develop more sustainable and anti-fast fashion ways of thinking. But with a sense of humor - occasional relapses are allowed. For the record, my two-week old boucle jacket from Zara is already falling apart - the threads in the boucle weave. But, I'm very sorry to say, the same is happening to my D&G boucle jacket Actually, the secondary designer diffusion lines (D&G, See by Chloe, RED Valentino etc) are often problematic in terms of quality. Fabrics are often man-made and the quality is average high street.

Ok, this is quickly becoming a really boring essay... Need to get up, eat breakfast with friends and - have a great day lovelies and keep up the good work posting here! (Love to see so many oldtimers here too; please do stay!.)

DonaAna · 18/08/2012 06:43

Apologize for typos etc - very early morning still! < blush>

blossoming · 18/08/2012 07:07

Hi everyone! I am tempted to ask, what have I missed? but truth is I've probably read every post on W&A threads since they started and have been lurking for the past few days without really knowing what to say.
Thank you to fritzi for this new beginning, and welcome to all. Looking forward to great links.
I am in S&B hell in a caravan in my pants and vest with curly hair. I had forgotten what my hair does when exposed to sea water, pool and my living hell on earth that was aqualand yesterday. Still love the Violet Lake bikinis and wearing them on rotation. St Tropez suntan lotion with fake tan only lasted 4 days, but then it is 39C so needed reapplying. Haven't burnt yet, worried I may not get a tan at all! Has worked out better than expected having friends with us and we will miss them when we leave tomorrow. Highly recommend the M by MJ cross body bag for those wanting something less £££. Will probably get a black one here as my first a/w buy. That's it for now, have great days all.

rufus101 · 18/08/2012 08:15

Waves to Bloss. Agree that Aqualand is my idea of hell also. Cannot abide it. Ditto aquariums. Seen one, seen them all.
Must look into Violet Lake for next year. Couldn't get my head around spending ?100 on a bikini this year, but as the discretionary spend on bikinis this year was zero, I think I can completely justify it next year! Grin
I'm sure that by the time you come back normal service will have resumed. It seems so strange.

AmberNectarine · 18/08/2012 08:28

rufus I got mine in NAP sale for about £35.

StrikeAPose · 18/08/2012 08:44

dona what was unforgettable under the stars? Wink Please carry on telling about your life, btw. It's like a shot of fantasy during the days of toddler tantrums and supermarket shops.

blossoming · 18/08/2012 08:49

rufus, if you see them as 'outfits', then it's not so bad! But they are brilliant: don't bag or sag, and stay put when you come out off the sea, pool or off a slide. Just hope I haven't ruined them with suntan lotion!
strikeapose, have you name changed?

AmberNectarine · 18/08/2012 08:52

Yes, v good bikinis, though looking forward to my bosom deflating so I can stop living in fear of a Carry On moment...

pickledsiblings · 18/08/2012 09:03

Goodmorning All

It is going to be a hot one, I may even resort to a bikini in the garden. Black bandeau with green gap shorts from a few seasons ago and a nice white soft cotton TS shirt as a cover up. Slip on some black strappy sandals (bought in Florence in emergency circs) and I am good to go...the excitement of dressing as if on holiday - I love it!

Glad it all worked out with your friends Bloss. Dona, I'm sure your DD will be fine just as soon as she's had breakfast and started playing with her toys.

Enjoy the sun Smile.

loobylu3 · 18/08/2012 09:17

Morning all. Just tried to post some pretty links to lighten the tone after yesterday but 3 out of 4 of them aren't working so have had to give up!

Hi to a v tanned bloss

trixymalixy · 18/08/2012 09:32

I agree in part with some of what mignonette says. I'm more into interiors than fashion really and won't buy rip offs of classic designer furniture, but interiors trends move less swiftly than fashion trends.

When it comes to clothes I'm happy to spend on classic stuff like my Aigle trench and Barbour jacket, but when it comes to trends that are likely to be around for just one season, there's not much point investing when I don't have a massive budget.

Also when I'm never at a weight I'm happy with, I'm not happy spending loads of cash.

And at what point do you draw the line? Surely every collection below catwalk collections is copying in some way? Direct rip offs are not on obviously, but where does inspiration end and copying begin?

ApuskiMcClusky · 18/08/2012 09:34

Hello all - just dropping in here after being AWOL for a couple of weeks, more as a statement of intent than having links or W&A news! We completed on buying our house yesterday (yay!), so apart from the need for funds to go on the house, I also find I am using my idle browsing time to look for renovation ideas rather than A/W clothes at the mo! As you may have noticed on Pinterest, sorry if I'm clogging it up with house pictures, it's just such a fab way of storing them to refer back to later.

Holiday sounds great Bloss, even with hair woes!

ApuskiMcClusky · 18/08/2012 09:36
noddyholder · 18/08/2012 09:42

Interiors will bankrupt you more than clothes if you go down that route hence me having to shop on ebay!Grin

trixymalixy · 18/08/2012 09:47

I would kill for a Florence knoll sofa. There are loads of rip offs, but im not biting But once the kids are past the sticky fingered stage I may save up....

DH found 5 eames aluminium group soft pad chairs in a skip a couple of weeks ago. Some idiot had hacked then to bits, we're hoping they are restorable, but not sure. I could have cried when I saw them!!

MarshaBrady · 18/08/2012 09:55

Hello. Lovely, lovely day! Booked a babysitter at 8am so can lie poolside Grin

Lovely to see Bloss, Pickled, Looby and Apuski congrats on house and Bloss have a fab holiday.

We have a thing for Asplund and E15 and a type of big artimede light I can't remember.

ApuskiMcClusky · 18/08/2012 09:57

Ooh nice. The house we've just bought is early sixties, though feels a bit older than that, so I am finding myself drawn to mid century. I've been looking at Eames and G Plan on eBay, but only in a getting-ahead-of-myself way. Got to start with the stripping and rewiring!

Fleecy · 18/08/2012 10:04

Wow - I'm off the thread for a few weeks and it all goes crazy! Anyway, morning all. Work busy, got stressed so blew it off and went out for cocktails with friends last night. Not very S&B - navy skinnies and white tank with leopard flat sandals - but glammed up a bit with good hair (hairdresser, not me!) and jewellery. Good to relax.

apuski am very excited by your house news and looking forward to beautiful interiors links.

napoleon whereabouts in Spain are you? We're looking to move to Valencia next year.

trixymalixy · 18/08/2012 10:04

I'm struggling with my interior style at the moment. We live in an 18th century farmhouse, but I prefer mid century style. The idea was to try and do an eclectic mix, but don't feel it's working terribly well so leaning towards a more rustic vintage style.

I also collect Arne Jacobsen, I have quite a few cylinda line bits and his cutlery for Georg Jensen. So my birthday/Xmas presents are more likely to be investment interiors items than investment handbags!!
