Black tie formal event, stleger? Blimey. And I grumbled about having to go to an "awards" assembly for ds yesterday. ("Citizenship" and "Being on the school council", in case anyone was wondering, which they probably weren't Grin ) And I didn't have to wear "an outfit". I would feign illness and leave the country if school invited me to that kind of event. Grin

Ds came home with a DVD of his year. Complete with with inspirational choons. This has (possibly unreasonably) depressed me immensely. I mean, what is wrong with just, y'know, relying on your memory? Why do we have to have photos of blardy everything? It's all just dust-collecting junk in the end (and something else for me to throw away when no one is looking). I am 47 and I can still perfectly well remember being in Class 2 with Mrs Aspinall at Nowheresville Primary School. And in fact I am mighty glad that there is no photographic or (worse, much worse) video evidence of my boring doings.

Bah humbug etc etc.

Ps: Has anyone else had very sore norks as a random perimenopausal symptom? Not PMT-related.

Cremolafoam · 20/07/2012 19:22

Yes to painful boobs. Had to get a bigger braSad

bigTillyMint · 20/07/2012 19:39

Stropps, yes re: tyhe sore norks. All gone now with the HRTSmile

Stleger, I've never heard of that(well, I've heard of Debs, but I thought that died out in the 60's!) - is the school vair posh? I doubt it will happen at the DC's city compSmile

DS came home with a Class Yearbook made by one of the mums and her DD - very sweet - will be great to see if they end up fulfilling their predictions in 10yrs time.

stleger · 20/07/2012 22:14

No, not a posh school, just ordinary. The Debs thing used to be girl in white dresses and gloves and nice dancing. It is now girls in polyester dresses and bling, and boys with matching ties. And the girls have a corsage. Which lasts about ten minutes. The night ends in McDonalds about 5.00 am. A bit like a May Ball in Cambridge...but only a very small bit! I will have to clean the house though.

Well, it has been a busy afternoon! The Olympic Torch relay was a very convivial affair; DD2 was delighted with her free bottle of Coke Zero, and the fact that she got to high-five a policeman on a motorbike. We saw the torch twice, actually; after it went past we legged it across the town centre and caught up with it again as it emerged from the one-way system.

Then off to collect DD1 at the end of her school trip, and I could hear the collective sobbing as I approached the school hall. All very emotional. She had a fantastic time, though.

DS returned unscathed from Germany; the first thing he said when he got in the car was "xx weed in a bottle and threw it out of the hotel room window". Yes, that was the very first nugget of information he thought to impart, after we shelled out £400+ for him to spend five days in Germany. Angry

On a more positive note, they had a deodorant fight in the corridor one evening, so all those cans of Lynx came in handy after all. Grin

I am nursing a cold today, which crept up overnight, but am feeling distinctly more chipper after two of DH's fabled Hot Whiskies.

We are debating whether to go and see the end of the Tour de France, and whether we will get within sniffin' distance of the Champs Elysees. Am going sales shopping with DD1 later, and will take DD2 to Gap as they had some very small adult jeans in the sale, which might fit her (25 waist, 30 leg). Have friend who is professional chef coming over tomorrow night for drinks and am dithering about whether to feed him as well, and what I could possibly cook that would come close to his standards. Was thinking of making curry, as he is American, so something he might not normally cook?

Bit fed up as so many of my friends are leaving this summer at very short notice, including my blingy blog friend, who thought she had another year here, and she is off next weekend.

Some good news from school is that DD2 has my teacher friend as her adviser/home room teacher. I asked tentatively, if she could possibly have her, and was told that was where they had already allocated her!

bigTillyMint · 21/07/2012 09:36

MrsS, get down to the Champs and cheer on our National HeroSmile You might run into ruby's DH!

Curry sounds like a good plan, though I'm sure that whatever you cook will be delish. My teacher friend has sadly left DD's (and soon to be DS's school) (along with a rather worrying lot of others), as I was hoping that at least one of them would have her as their maths teacher at some point.

Can't believe we are finally on holiday!

MrsSchadenfreude · 21/07/2012 09:44

We are v close to the Champs, so can always just go and soak up the atmosphere, I guess. And have a drink afterwards to celebrate! Have been horribly busy at work and am completely pooped at the moment.

I have sore norks too BTM, I think the mum who put together the class yearbook may be my managing editor - does she have an older daughter already at a school that rhymes with smarter? Grin

Mr Inferior has made the move from Ill to Very Very Very Tired You Know, Utterly Exhausted. This is Mr 'about to have eight week sabbatical' Inferior, I should point out.

bigTillyMint · 21/07/2012 13:25

Smarter? She does have a DD at the school who is my DD's friend, but her name does not rhyme with Smarter Confused And she is not a journalist/managing editor! But I am now intrigued - is the DD in Y8? I will be quizzing DD if she has any friends/aquaintances whose names might rhyme Smile

motherinferior · 21/07/2012 14:00

Oooh, no, I meant your Ds. Am clearly not Smarter myself. It is a school that rhymes with Smarter, wot is v popular in your neck of the woods.

bigTillyMint · 21/07/2012 15:01

Oops! I do hv a friend with a DD at smarter who is an editor, but not on ur mag ATM AFAIK! Confused

bigTillyMint · 21/07/2012 16:19

Sorry for the text-speak - I was on my phoneBlush

Maybe there are two editors at the smarter school?Grin

Blackduck · 21/07/2012 16:42

Just been to see Ice Age and shared a bento...
Curious, MI, what does Mr I do to get an eight sabbatical? (eyes up possible career change...)

MrsSchadenfreude · 21/07/2012 19:50

Bought DD2 some adult jeans in the Gap sale today - 25 inch waist and 32 inch legs Envy. The legs are only slightly long on her, but the 30 inch was flapping around her ankles. Got the standard Parisian service - picked up three pairs, all from the reduced table, saying 75% off. Took them to the till - only one working on a Saturday afternoon, typically. None of the jeans were priced, so I asked him the prices before buying. Two pairs came in at 19 euros and the third pair at 79. I told him they were on the reduced table, and there were lots of pairs there, and he just shrugged at me, very Gallicly, and said "What do you want me to do about it? This is what the code on the jeans says the price is." I couldn't be bothered to argue, so just got the cheap pairs. I won't miss French customer service when I leave here.

bigTillyMint · 21/07/2012 21:03

Oooh, might have to have a look for DD though Primarni superskinnies in size 6 Envy seem to fit fine and are cheap-as-chips though she has been predictably rude to both DH and me since coming home from yet another sleepover party...

oldqueenie, I agree, the Mary-Jane yellows/snakeys are "peng"!
