Nice rubes.

I also like these. I do fear, however, that purchasing fitflops is the start of a slippery slope that ends at Hotter.

Morning all. I am feeling bright and bushy-tailed today (not) following a night out with Uni pals - we went to the BFI and I thought of you all. Drank too much, and am now slumped at my computer trying to work out which of the 487 tasks I have set myself today to tackle first. Have just had chimney surveyor here to see if we can fit a wood-burning stove into our weird 1950s fireplace and he's gone away sucking his teeth, shaking his head and leaving me with a bones of a long-dead pigeon that fell out of the flue when he started poking around. Will leave clearing that up to dh, I think. Have also got drain clearing company here today as well - so it's a sort of men with rods morning. Fnarr.

Ruby - I did buy the dress, also paid £23.50 (equally robbed!) and it's on its way, along with a couple of other things I don't really need that fell into my basket. One is a dress which I would have to wear as a tunic, in a v pretty lupin print on a black (or maybe navy, quite hard squinting at the laptop to see the colour properly) background. I love floral prints on dark backgrounds, always think they look uber glam.

Herbs - like those fit flops, I have a old pair that are a bit grim and white plastic, but v comfortable. Another friend with foot issues lives in hers all summer.

Cremola - I too groan involuntarily when moving, particularly heaving myself up from the sofa. And my face this morning seems to have folded in on itself, although that may be the hangover - I'm hoping it's not permanent.

Cremolafoam · 20/07/2012 11:56

Snort @ men with rods.

No such excitement here today. I get to pick between an ironing pile the size of Everest and a flower border that will require being on knees for the afternoon.
Can't decide which will do my crepey body more harm.Sad

Like the sound of the lupiny dressGrin

bigTillyMint · 20/07/2012 12:03

I have a pair of fit-flops - the ubiquitous silver sparkly which have barely left my feet for the last month or twoBlush I like the first pair best Herbs - they look quite on-trend to me!

Just been to DS's leavers service - all rather unexpectedly emotional. DS started blubbing whilst doing a reading of his school memories. By the end of the service, the whole of Y6 were blubbing hysterically. I don't remember the children being that emotional when DD left, though I remember shedding a few tears!

herbaceous · 20/07/2012 12:08

I was singing in a local music festival the other day, and my choir was joined by an infant's school choir for a few numbers. I got all emotional at how sweet they were.

God knows how I'm going to survive any play/concert with DS in. I shall bawl uncontrollably the whole way through, and have to be stretchered out.

Cremolafoam · 20/07/2012 12:15

Herbs - it's the Christmas concert that destroys me. Am annually overcome by sobbing during once in royal David's city.
Part Xmas stress part exhaustion part overcome by emotion by child singers innocence .
Every sodding year I make a holy show of myselfBlush

motherinferior · 20/07/2012 12:15

I have just come back from DD1's leavers' assembly (and how very thrilled I was at the apostrophe in the right place) and am shattered!

herbaceous · 20/07/2012 12:23

I even cried when told last year that DS was to play Santa in the nursery play. It never actually happened, due to disorganisation, which is probably a good thing as far as my dignity's concerned.

motherinferior · 20/07/2012 12:45

I cried at the Nativity the year DD1 was in Y1, not at her but at the little boy in her class who was playing Joseph and said 'Don't worry, Mary, I'll look after you'...and today I looked at him all tall and big and cried again at the memory Blush

CointreauVersial · 20/07/2012 12:55

Our Leavers' Assembly (nice apostrophe work, MI!) was last week, because the Year 6s have been in France all this week. It was a bit shambolic; they let the kids do their own thing, so it was a bit like a rambling episode of Britain's Got Talent, but without any appreciable talent (the best bit was the title - "I'm a Year Six - Get Me Out Of Here!"). Then, in the middle, a massive thunderstorm knocked out the electrics/PA. But DD1 had fun, and did a self-choreographed street dance with her BF.

I'm expecting the emotions at 5pm when I pick her up from the coach. Then DS is due back at 8pm, and the noise and chaos in Chateau Cointreau will commence once more.

DD2 finishes her term in....ooo....about 30 minutes, then we're off for some Olympic Torch action.

Comfy sandals - now, that's something I've been researching at length recently, having realised I don't have anything sufficiently supportive for our holiday, which will involve a fair bit of pavement pounding/sightseeing. I looked at, and discounted, those vile sports-sandally things they sell in Millets, but Herbs, those fit flops don't look too bad. The orange ones are nice, but mink might be more versatile. Not sure about the floral ones; look a bit "blocky". What about this sort of thing? Yes, I know they are Footglove, but they are mighty comfy, and not too frumpy? Or am I deluded?

I cannot get my feet into FitFlops. I have tried quite hard, but no, they are not made for those with wide feet and high insteps. Herbs, I like those orange ones. CV, I reckon you could pull off those Footglove sandals, but a short, stumpy person like me would look v. frumpy.

Our 3-tier school system means that we get to do the Leavers' blub three times. Well, 4 if you count 6th form, I suppose.

wilbur · 20/07/2012 13:27

Leavers' Assembly was a blubfest here too. Ds1 won the Good Citizen prize and I was v v proud and pleased that the school have recognised what a lovely, loyal boy he is - especially as he still struggles a bit with social skills and has had to learn the art of interaction rather than it coming to him naturally. The kids all signed each others' school shirts in the playground on the way out, so I'm going to try and work out a way to frame that for him. Can't believe he's finished primary - he's been there 8 years Shock.

CV - I think those sandals look fine, esp for summer sightseeing. Nice with cutoff jeans or trousers.

bigTillyMint · 20/07/2012 13:28

Stropps, my friend came round last night saying the same thing about fit flops, but she could get mine on (we are the same size) so they must stretch a bit - maybe you could get a slightly smaller footed friend to help?Smile

Do parents go to Leaver's Do's when they are in sixth form?

TheReturnOfStropperella · 20/07/2012 13:44

BTM, I last tried on some FitFlops 2 summers ago, so maybe they have a different style or 2 now. Grin Perhaps I should go and have another try. Although at the moment I am v. happy with my silver Birkies and some big clompy ART jobs.

Not sure about parents at Leavers' dos in sixth form. I think the parents are probably all just standing outside the school gates sobbing into their cheque books Grin

herbaceous · 20/07/2012 13:51

I have narrow feet, and low insteps, so in many cases fitflops are perversely a little wide. I may have to size down.

I like those footgloves, CV, but have something similar from Clarks. In some ways I feel it's almost more forgiveable to wear something who's sole (arf) function is to be comfortable, that also look OK, than to wear something that looks OK, but is also comfortable. Do you see?

Cremolafoam · 20/07/2012 13:57

Sobbing over post office savings book is nearly upon me. Dd is 17 and were gonna be looking at universities next year.
Feel crumbly just at the thought.

Have given up on slidy sandally flip flop style items and gone the whole hog switch to ballet pumps.
Had a pair of Converse slides for donkeys years but sadly a replacement pair cannot be found for love nor money.

Blackduck · 20/07/2012 15:03

Just collected ds who insisted I bought his teacher (the one he HATED two terms ago) flowers and chocs.....duly handed over, big hug, at which point he dissolved and I had to shepherd him away as he sobbed, trying to hold it together myself. Oh god, I really hope we are doing the right thing :(
No help on shoe front, but like orange ones...

TheReturnOfStropperella · 20/07/2012 15:18

Courage, BD. You are doing the right thing. Ds will be fine. He likes his new school already!

herbaceous · 20/07/2012 16:51

Six weeks is an age for the young. He'll have practically forgotten fave teach by September. Probably.

Now wavering towards [[http://www.fitflop.co.uk/Womens-Lolla-Leather-Sunflower-Raffia/883945195907,en_GB,pd.html these] fitflops. I have a yearning for yellow. And they could be construed as 'this season's wedge'.

herbaceous · 20/07/2012 16:51

Bugger.

these

stleger · 20/07/2012 17:15

I have some new Scholls, I have a bunion like Posh Spice. She got hers from shoes, I got mine by falling down stairs.
Parents go to Sixth Year leaving things here...they are called mass or graduation depending on school. I wept this year, I didn't weep at ds's as I didn't realise it was the done thing! Then in September the whole Class of 2012 will be back together for the 'Debs',which is a black tie formal 'event' with very bad food. Parent of the deb provide drinkies (is 'prinks' used in England, pre-drinks?). And I will be expected to wear 'an outfit'.
