Hi all, waves...
Dp went over at 11, monies transferred at 2.00 and once I had handed on keys I followed - arrived around 5.00 just as unloading had finished. Put up our bed and went down the pub. Place looks forlorn and tired, in desperate need of a bit of tlc (and money). I am a bit Confused at what we have taken on. Keep telling myself it's early days!
Located work clothes and had a bath, leaving dp to work out things like insurance and plumbers today...have also put on half a stone with all the eating out/takeaways....

MrsSchadenfreude · 29/08/2012 07:06

Oooh, how exciting Blackduck! Smile

I am in WonderWoman mode this morning - got up and made the DDs a cooked breakfast because we had run out of cereal and baked a batch of muffins. But I am now slumped back on my bed, trying to gear myself up to go to work. The cats have clearly had a row and are not speaking as they are both at opposite corners of the bed, with their backs to each other. The kitten keeps having little furtive looks at the large cat, and looking away quickly in case he sees her looking.

Blackduck · 29/08/2012 07:26

Blimey MrsS it was all I could do to make a cup of tea this morning. Now stuck on a train going nowhere because there is a trespasser on the line... Hope this is not a regular occurrence!
I want a cat...

wilbur · 29/08/2012 08:25

Well done blackduck! Very impressed you are heading to work already - will you be able to take some time off in the next few weeks to get vaguelystraight?

MrsS your cats sound so sweet - I would love to have one but am allergic. Had two growing up (pre-allergy), a mother and one of her kittens, and they were brilliant, used to make us laugh so much. We're thinking about a dog at some point, but I have never had one so it will have to be once dcs are old enough to help properly with it.

Right, better get on. Have a friend coming for lunch and have to make up sofa bed for MIL who is coming to look after the dcs later today when I go to Scotland for my aunt's funeral.

Wilbur, I think you could totally carry off that style on your second link. Go for it! Am sorry to hear about your aunt and can completely empathise with the feeling that the GR is creeping up on you. Hope the trip up to Scotland goes OK.

BD, I'm so pleased for you that the house move has finally come good. Hope ds is thrilled with the new gaff when he arrives.

MrsS, will ArseBoss not ever get into trouble for "working" (hahaha) from home? Surely someone must be checking up on him? (ahem)

Our boys' day out yesterday went very well, with everyone exhausted, covered in mud and very happy at the end of it. I did the death slide, but seeing as I had 10 people shouting "Go Stropps, go Stropps", I didn't really have much choice in the matter. :) The only fly in the ointment was that ds still couldn't bring himself to do the slide and, despite the fact that 2 of his friends and 2 of the mums also didn't do it (didn't even try, in fact, whereas he got as far as sitting on the top but was absolutely jellified with fear), he had a very unusual meltdown and disappeared into the woods for 20 minutes. And today he is stomping around muttering "I am the most boring boy in the world". Dd due back today, so we will have a full quota of drama queens in the house once more. Grin

I am uncomfortably aware that I need to go and check out the school uniform situation in ds's cupboard. New trousers are probably needed and gawd knows what else.

Trialled the dog on some cheapo dog food this week. He usually has obscenely expensive special dry food for canines of a sensitive disposition and constitution. He has gone all greasy, stinky and miserable on the normal food, so I will have to carry on with the pricey spinach, salmon and fennel biscuits (or whatever they are made of).

TheReturnOfStropperella · 29/08/2012 10:31

MI, I am so Envy of you being able to carry off those short haircuts. That photo is lovely and that haircut really, really suits you.

Blackduck · 29/08/2012 10:34

Yes, unfortunately I couldnt have this week off, so have left dp dealing with it (which means he'll be sorted, but the rest will be as I left it).
I had to buy an umbrella on the way to work, as I couldn't find that either...
It all feels quite unreal at the moment.
Ahh Stropps, poor ds :(

motherinferior · 29/08/2012 10:50

I am trying to get through to work colleague: email/text/phone messages have produced no reply. Suspect she has her Own Stuff going on. DP is making ahem 'helpful' suggestions Angry because I foolishly suggested I could contact the deputy editor...if I do this I will open a can of worms and some of them may rebound on me, dammit.

Am going to go and have eyebrows threaded instead. Not least because Mr Inferior keeps suggesting some nice relaxing rumpy-pumpy to calm me down, which is frankly the last thing I feel like Wink

Cremolafoam · 29/08/2012 10:52

Congratulations BD. must be a bit daunting, but well done on the move. Thanks

i am doing freecycling today as am on a bit of a clearout frenzy.Got a woman coming for A mattress tomorrow. My cats are nonplussed at level of furniture moving.have found some interesting dust.

off to work now in New Shoes. Ended up at Clarks but these were the comfiest of all;reader i married them

bigTillyMint · 29/08/2012 10:57

Well, only took me 20mins to catch up on my DM's ancient laptop. Have been at our dear friends eating and drinking yet even more!

MI you look fab in that picture (even if it is the Daily Fail!) - have it done like that. Does your DD approve of that lipstick?

BD CONGRATULATIONS on your move Smile

MrsS Envy at the Amrula cream - yum!

Stropps, your DS has my sympathies - I have developed into a wimp too Grin

Off to drop the DC's at the local swimming pool where they are meeting up wiith a local boy they made friend with hwen we were last up on a windsurfing course... this is the positive side to Facebook as DH and I will get a few hours off!

CointreauVersial · 29/08/2012 11:01

Just checking in from my sunlounger in the little garden behind our posh holiday "Duingalow" (happy sigh...). Indeed, this is the third day of lovely sunshine in NL; who'd have thunk it?

Amsterdam was a little soggy, however, and not a great hit (might have something to do with the fact that we arrived in a massive rainstorm, took a wrong turn, and marched three wet and hungry children straight through a heaving Red Light District on a Saturday evening. Massive SOH failure all round.

This place is excellent; loads to do. This morning DH and the DCs have gone off to the swimming complex while I made some vague excuse about important domestic chores (i.e. sunbathing and going on MN) although I did venture in there yesterday, and gave myself a sinus flush and a painful wedgy on the "Typhoon" water slide.

Back home to reality on Friday, when my carb binge will sadly come to an end (waistbands have definitely tightened; the daily pancake habit is almost certainly to blame).

Well done on the move, BD, when's the Housewarming? Wink

OP posts:
Blackduck · 29/08/2012 11:20

Housewarming - hum....10th September

2013 - I might have found the glasses by then...... ;)

motherinferior · 29/08/2012 14:50

BD, that's why God invented plastic cups Grin. The very idea of moving house makes me feel quite faint. We haven't done it for 11 years. Many Thanks to all of you who take it in your stride.

Colleague has (finally) sprung into action, and my brows are under control, and I found a very nice silk Jigsaw dress in the Sue Ryder shop so I am a happier bunny.

I have to tell you that I was, in reality, wearing so much slap for that pic - honestly, the makeup artist was puffing and swooshing at me every five minutes over a looooooooooong day - including Ermintrude-style false eylashes - that when I got to the school gate I had to hide from my friends, and DD2 burst into tears and begged me to "keep that look for Halloween, mummy".

motherinferior · 29/08/2012 14:51

EyElashes, obvs Blush

Cremolafoam · 29/08/2012 17:11

Also ticks self off list as can only do Good French quite slowlyGrin
Madame S you crack ze whip!

Cremolafoam · 29/08/2012 20:36

BD have you slept in your own bed yet ?

MI need to ask you about degrees - dd thinking of journalism( crosses self) but is interested also in drama.
Just got lots of As in her gcses and I am turning into Tiger mumSad

CV glad you're enjoying holland and good weatherGrin

motherinferior · 29/08/2012 20:57

O lord, I would not madly recommend a degree in journalism. Much much better to do a degree in a specific subject and then move into journalism. I may be wrong on this as my own journalism training is distinctly absent haphazard, but I do lecture in feature writing sometimes Blush - honestly I think better to do a first degree and then qualify as a journalist.

Cremolafoam · 29/08/2012 21:18

Thanks MI : no I don't think a degree I journalism is in her head. She wants to write ( what I don't think she knows ) but def English lit maybe with something else.
Her main interest is music and I think she imagines herself as a music journo or drama editor which is getting dangerously into the type of jobs that vvvv few people get to do.....Sad
I don't want to quash her dreams but I need to add some reality into the mix .
She is v bright aimiable and reads a lot. I think the reality if doing extremely well in her exams in all get subjects has flumoxed her a bit.
Too many choices. I have sent her away to think seriously about what she wants for her work placement and not to squander it.
Gawd I feel like a cow- but I am dreading her saying she wants to be a pop singer all if a sudden.Blush

Cremolafoam · 29/08/2012 21:49

Sorry for hijacking this thread.

Will stick to style and beauty in futureGrin

MrsSchadenfreude · 29/08/2012 22:16

Don't crush her dreams! I ended up in my dream career against all of the odds, but it has now become a bit of a nightmare...

Cremolafoam · 29/08/2012 23:18

No crushing going onSmile
Shell do what she chooses in the end. Just want her to look at options really- dd doesn't really get that she is q smart and could do anything!
Trying to build up her confidence and the realisation that there are lots of options.

Blackduck · 30/08/2012 06:44

Well if it's drama/theatre studies she'd have to go to dp's uni - in top five (possibly number one) Grin
Yes, have slept in own bed. Yesterday morning I asked Dp how he slept and he said brilliantly, I said I thought so because you were laughing in your sleep Smile
Put up others bed and made up spare room for inlaws who will bring child and dog back tomorrow....

TheReturnOfStropperella · 30/08/2012 10:18

Prodigal dd returned yesterday, v. tanned and full of chat about mountain hikes, swimming in alpine lakes, amaaaaaaazing (sic) ice caves and the unexpected fab-ness of Eurodisney ("unexpected" because I have spent years telling the dcs it is tacky and shite to stop them moaning about me never taking them there and she believed me). They slept the last night in the Landrover, so it has all been a great and exciting adventure. I am baking a giant choc cake and purchasing fine wine for dd to take round today when she picks up all her bits and pieces from the family she went travelling with. She seems to have grown up quite a bit whilst she was away. Am I allowed to hope that the good humour and cooperative attitude will last beyond today?? She is currently a completely different person from the one she was at Easter. Ohpleaseohplease let this last..

Re: dream careers - ds is aiming to win the X-Factor and dd's latest idea is to work as a research chemist for a cosmetics company. Last year she still wanted to be a dolphin trainer. Grin
