I would love to work 4 days (now I am no longer working 3), but it's just not a go-er in my current job.

BD, snails are OK - mostly taste of the garlic butter. DD likes them!

Just back from a 25mileish ride up to the Thames and along the Regents canal with a stop-off for lunch in Hackney village, sans enfants - faberoo. Actually it's a weekend of village eating as we ate out in Brixton village last night, which is dead coolWine

BD in the words of Dad's Army, Don't Panic! It'll be great[smile}]

We had time without DCs this afternoon, and I retired to bed...

...but it was after giving blood for the first time and I was shamingly knocked out Blush.

motherinferior · 26/08/2012 19:12

Also I am reading this thread and feeling unchicly suicidal.

DD2 informs me my lovely red lipstick is Wrong. Do I take fashion advice from a nine year old or reassure myself that most other people, including colleagues at the women's mag where I work, dammit, have been saying how nice I look??

Cremolafoam · 26/08/2012 19:22

Oh MI I was reading that too and thinking I will live in taupe and ballet flats and low carb until I am size 6 and develop insouciance and smoke Gitanes. Then I had a sausage roll and thought fuck it.Grin

Sérieusement - i did strive for this look for a while but kept dying my hair and buying cerise scarvesGrin

Hopeless I amWink

bigTillyMint · 26/08/2012 20:39

The thing is, we go to France quite a lot. Not Paris. And I have to say, it has been a rare thing to see a chic Frenchwoman outside of Paris. There are plenty of frumpy French fatso's (and thinso's) in the rest of the country. Sp don't fret too muchSmile

MrsSchadenfreude · 26/08/2012 20:57

BTM is spot on. Outside Paris it is frumpsville all the way. Large arses in tracky bottoms, trainers and a huuuge T shirt. Really, you could be in Kent rather than Northern France.

And very few people suit beige taupe. It tends to blend in with mousy brown hair and pale beige skin.

I am back from Baaarkshoire. DD1 has been sucking on her puffer all week and we all smell as if we are on sixty a day. The joy of having a mother who smokes, but swears she never smokes in the house, despite the evidence, in the form of brimming ashtrays, to the contrary.

Cremolafoam · 26/08/2012 20:58

Agree - just back from France and on balance most people are a variety of shapes and sizes on the beaches. However in Paris last October I did notice a certain chic- ness and simplicity of dress.( must've been Mrs S out doing her messages)
Me I was up Monoprix getting bargains.Grin

Taupe is my 0% colour. Along with yellow. IMHO of course, as I have yet to go to a HoC consultant!

And I am allergic to mushroom and fungi of a varieties. That must be why I am Strangely Drawn to purple and orange

bigTillyMint · 26/08/2012 21:17

Oh I love purple too, but orange is not a good colour on me.

No I shouldn't wear it either as I am blond with pinky cheeks. My colours are grey
Pale blue and coral.
In actuality I wear navy mostly with a lot of red. Cheery init! Our climate dies not invite more drear.

MrsSchadenfreude · 26/08/2012 21:34

I am ginger naturally blonde with brown eyes. Khaki and other shades of sludge suit me. Grin

MrsSchadenfreude · 26/08/2012 21:35

And Crem, I look quite fetching with a touch of coral brightening up my khaki.

I lived in Israel for a while and blended right in, with my khaki and black, and Israeli Naot sandals.

bigTillyMint · 26/08/2012 21:36

khaki's good for me too, though a little dull on the whole! Blues and purples are my favourite, but any bright colours that are not yellow/orange/lime green seem OK. I think hope.

Cremolafoam · 26/08/2012 21:53

Khaki is my enemy I just can't wear it without looking like I'm in a boy scout uniform. Bet it looks gorgeous on you two tho. Likewise trench coats . Look like lab coat on me.
Tried a divine trench on in monsoon once and the shop lady actually snorted when I can out of the changing room to look in the mirror and said ' hmm lab coat'
Grin
I am
Short
And
Round
And Extraordinarliy Irish looking
( lilac legs, rosy cheeks, hair looks like its been in a high wind)
