blue I had wondered just that about the boots! I do love them though! Would they look naff with dark denim. Also wonder how they would hold up to winter weather.....but I still want them. Am hhmmmming over the fact I could buy them and these darK brown boots for the cost of replacing my Thelma wedges. What to do?
darkness love the handbag board. Watermelon alexa looks fab. Just missed out on gold one in outlet, and have been assured by them that there are no more for sale in the country- just as well as may need to sell a child if I were to find one to fund purchase Smile
Have survived taking all 5 children swimming. Which completely reminded me why I avoid any swimming pool that admits children like the plague usually. On the up side I can now confirm Clarins long lasting foundation and Clinique power lash mascara are wonderfully long lasting!

Decameron Sad you have my sympathies. DP has only had 1 day off in the last 3 weeks when we went to Silverstone, I am going slightly crazy.
Meant to say I have dyed boots black before, really easy and I wear them so much more now.

darkness I loved the Marriage Plot, but I can't really count myself a literary snob because I also really enjoyed Lauren Conrad's book Blush

Love the boots Blue think a lady on MrsCB's blog has them so hopefully some inspiration from there soon.

Another voracious reader here! I wouldn't go so far to say that I am literary snob, as my tastes are pretty eclectic. However if I hear through the grapevine that something is really badly written (Shades of Grey; Da Vinci Code etc) then I do steer clear, however long it stays on top of the best seller list. I have just finished this which was excellent if long and gruelling.

Sorry to hear that your DH has cancelled his leave Decameron. I can empathise - whilst I am quite excited about the Olympics already (sports geek!) I am more than a little frustrated that Olympics security etc means that DH is only able to take about 4 days off over the whole of the summer holidays so we have no break away.

First proper Insanity workout today. Was hard!

I would like to think my job contributes to literary snob tendencies, but also forces me to keep up with the books that are keeping people reading - Twilight, Harry Potter etc etc (teenage stuff specifically I guess). That doesn't excuse 50 Shades, but I needed to know what all he fuss was about, I still don't though. Someone asked what I'd be teaching this year - lots of my favourites; Angela Carter's short stories, Much Ado, Macbeth, Dracula (am gong to get them into it using Twilight), The Great Gatsby, Of Mice and Men. Can't wait!

I had an hour on my own in Whistles today and came away empty handed Shock. Loads of stuff I'd seen online that just didn't come up to par in rl. Saw some lovely Chelsea boots in a faded black that I loved - could do with a flat alternative to Jalouse etc but couldn't decide if they made me stumpy or not, shall go back tomorrow.

Decam that is a serious bummer about next week. Am also annoyed to have missed out on £150 Pistols. What's your trick Mrscb? you always have plenty of Outnet success.

Suburban your recent buys are lovely!

Love the pink boots Blue - would fit right in to your wardrobe!

Am off to prepare myself for seeing a stylish lady Grin.

MarshaBrady · 18/07/2012 15:57

My first French/German/Russian/English etc speaking boyfriend taught me to be a literary snob (more than an English Literature major did) and would buy me Pessoa, Tabucchi, Bulgakov, and of course Chekhov. I adore the restraint of Carver.

I don't read much these days Sad. But will get back into it when ds2 stops being so full on.

Red have a good time. Cuddles to the cute ones!

blossoming · 18/07/2012 16:14

My little green shorts arrived and are perfect. I wish I'd bought them in other bright shades too. How hard is it to find a non sheer white vest which is not too long?

DonaAna · 18/07/2012 16:44

Bloss the green shorts looked fab on Pin!
Marsha are you me by any chance? Grin Have been thinking about rereading Master & Margarita. Love Russian novels. Those with short attention spans (who will have to give War & Peace a miss this summer) but with appetite for the absurd, check out Daniil Kharms.

Just had a lovely early evening with DD1. She wore her bright pink satin dress. I went Technicolor in Roxannes, the royal blue Marni coat, watermelon Rib&Hull tote, green Zatchel and exaggerated pointed-toe nude flats (bought in Buenos Aires about 10 years ago and worn since because they make me look like a cowboy). But they went so well with Marni vibe. We went to an art gallery first, then to a park nearby. DD immediately found some friends, and I was thinking how happy and grateful I am. Last year I was in the same park tired, exhausted, depressed and pushing a gigantic double stroller (looking tired and frumpy and unstylish). Don't want to brag about my clothes, they have just made me feel so much better: I've found my style and it's one of the many small but improvements that make me happy and confident. Plus the DC are growing - I can go to cafes and restaurants and galleries with them (I missed all that so much when they were babies).

We got caught in a sudden downpour but that was fun too - DH is warming up tinned pea soup so I'm looking forward to a gourmet meal Grin Would it taste better with some champagne? Wink

Have an unopened NAP box for later...

MarshaBrady · 18/07/2012 17:01

Dona I knew you would like the same literature. Bravo! Makes me happy Grin

Your day sounds absolutely perfect! All the good stuff with an NaP box at the end too. Cheers to looking good and feeling happy Smile

Bloss love the green shorts.

darknessvisible · 18/07/2012 19:37

I should clarify that when I say I'm a literary snob I mean it as much as ny describes in that I can't be bothered with things that I know are poorly written - it's not like I sit by the pool reading Proust (or not every holiday anyway Wink). I love European literature though, particularly those authors that dona and marsha have mentioned as well as Flaubert, Zola etc. For my work I specialise in a particular period of literature and tend to spend lots of work time on that. For fun, I'm just about to re-read some Wodehouse...

Love the green shorts bloss! Dona what's in your NaP box - do tell!

AntPants1 · 18/07/2012 19:54

Massimo Dutti shoes arrived and are not quite right. Sob. Had such high hopes and had constructed whole looks around them. Oh well.

AntPants1 · 18/07/2012 19:54

Am off to chear myself up looking at bags on pinterest Wink

MrsCampbellBlack · 18/07/2012 20:00

God as you all know I adore the sainted Jilly Wink

So when is the sun coming then - do I need to fake tan tonight?

Decameron · 18/07/2012 20:10

I really enjoyed French literature, Darkness, you have brought back some memories there (panicking about my dissertation, mainly).

I don't think the boots will dye well as they are stained from rain, they are quite matte.

Do you have any family help, Suburban? I have booked the babysitter for next Tues, before she goes away for a month .

We did Zola and Camus in school. The latter left a deep impression on my 17 year old mind Grin. Your work sounds lovely Darkness

Ants boo. Get something else you love pronto.

Decameron · 18/07/2012 20:22

Ants, the money is now freed up for the Ash genials!

FritziGreenEyes · 18/07/2012 20:32

marsha Yes, Camus! I wrote a very deep essay about La Peste when I was 17. We read lots of Kafka at school too.

I think Madame Bovary is my favourite book ever probably all the shopping... I think I have blocked A level English and Hard Times (yawn) from my being forever. Wish I had been in Red's class, I love the Great Gatsby!

Decameron my parents live v close, but have their own lives to lead and there is a v big age gap between me and youngest sibling so still parents in their own right. They are happy to break up the monotony by seeing DD and I together eg we met my mum for lunch today but don't have DD on their own v often. Which is fair enough... Enjoy the babysitter on Tuesday, Westfield?

Shame about the shoes Ants

notyummy · 18/07/2012 20:50

I love F Scott Fitzgerald! And my best friend and I ploughed through all the Wodehouse books when we were about 13 and spoke to each in Wooster speak for weeks Hmm.

MarshaBrady · 18/07/2012 20:50

Fritzi Grin. I remember eating crumbs of a biscuit in my friend's room after reading Solzhenitsyn. We were so hungry (always, boarding school) it was funny.

Robert Frost at 15 too was rather dangerous.

Decameron · 18/07/2012 21:07

I'm thinking Harvey Nicks for a change! I want to have a look at DvF as my friend is going to the US in August so I may ask her to pick up a dress for me instead of my usual jeans.

Was just about to watch Wallander but baby is awake (grr) and sitting on my knee.

Dona, did champagne enliven the pea soup? I was thinking that I am glad it is not this time last year, I had a one month old and was so tired. We are a while from restaurants with the DDs, well anywhere nicer than a pizzeria.

Just running in quickly to say I have been very naughty. this Joseph dress appeared on my Twitter feed at 10.00 am, by 11.30 it was in my basket and in my home by 7.30 pm. SE you will be delighted that it is not black.

MIM think most things have already been said. You can't change others' behaviour just your reaction to it...so ignore if you can.

My tastes are wide and varied. Am re-reading Great Gatsby, and will most likely download Shirley Conran's Lace. Lots of articles around about her at the moment

Dec not much in HN at the moment. Looked at DVF on Monday and they only had a few bits in.
