Welly Advice. Hunters or Joules?

I have decided the time has come to buy some decent wellies. Today I have seen both Hunters and the Joules Premium ones. There is a big difference in price, but will I really notice the difference? When I asked in the shop they said the only difference was in the length of the guarantee. I know they aren't really stylish or beautiful, but I could do with some help.TIA

I have a pair of hunters for a year and the surface already has crack lines on them. Basically a lot of fine white lines on a pair of black boots. A bit rubbish considering the price I paid for them.

Thanks for your reply. The man in the shop said the Hunters were guaranteed for a year and they only get the Joules ones back, and they have a 6 month guarantee, but I thought it was a lame way of justifying the difference.

Don't go cheap, go the opposite way and buy Le Chameau. They're the best wellies out there bar none.

I have hunters and I love them, have had them years without a problem.

I did hear that more recently bought ones might not be quite as good quality as the older ones but I can't recall why...sorry

If you need wellies regularly, then get Muck boots. Hunters don't last these days, and the Joules ones split

I have Joules and i love them, have had them about 3 years that being said i only wear them a handful of times each year so they don't get much use.

I've had my Hunters for quite a few years, and they're great. Have lasted much longer than cheaper brands. I like the Joules ones, but I'm loyal to Hunter now. They come up in TK Maxx sometimes, especially in summer for festival season.

I'll have to keep looking! They did have some hunters in Tk Maxx but only in sizes 3 or 8. I'll try a few different ones on. Maybe it's not the right thing to treat myself with. Thank you for your help.

Check out TK Maxx for wellies including Hunters as my local branch has had loads in lately. Well worth a look.

I bought Barbour ones from a factory shop and they have been going strong for years. Also, as I have long legs they come up high not half way down my calf!

Hunters or Barbours - I've had no problems with either brand. Current pair are in their 3rd year and good as new .... can't recall which they are though! Blush

Had both - lasted well under a year in each case. Muckboots on the other hand - seem to go on and on and on

Think Hunters are made in Hungary now, used to be made in Dumfries but they got in financial diffs and were taken over. Old factory shop now a patch of wasteland.

Have had my wellies for about a decade, £15 from a farming supply shop. Wouldn't buy Joules, kids have them but the adult quality looks shocking. Have seen farming types in Hunters (occasionally) but never ever in Joules! Wellies shouldn't be splitting unless your job requires wearing them every day (and then the tread would probably be the first to go).

My hunters are about 7 years old I think and are fine.
I have heard that more recent ones are crap

I got some joules ones a few months ago and they leaked like a sieve the first time I wore them. I had to actually take them off mid walk and pour the water out of them. Joules made me post them back for technical inspection and that was the last I heard of them. O refund, no replacement. Quite shit really. I wouldn't waste your money.

I have joules wellies and have used them regularly for 9 years! The rubber buckles have snapped but apart from that they hAve been fab Smile

Also, joules only publish the good reviews on their website which is annoying. For some reason they haven't wanted to publish my review about their terrible boots.

I've had Town and Country ones for about 8 years and they are fine. Normally about 20quid.

My hunters lasted 6 months, bloody awful things! Then I went and splurged on a pair of Ariat Grasmeres and they are brilliant, would never buy any other make than Ariat now.
