Expensive smelling perfumes...

Was out for lunch today with a friend and she was wearing a perfume that just smelt expensive, luxurious and just gorgeous. Forgot to ask her what it was but just wanted to know what you would consider an expensive perfume smell?

I love frederic malle bigarade concentree

DonaAna · 01/06/2012 13:20

Hermès perfumes that are sold in Hermès boutiques: Hermèssence Iris Ukiyoé and Paprika Brasil and hte warm and heady Ambre Narguilé.
Also the regular Hermès 24 Faubourg.

Chanel boutique perfume 28 La Pausa. Perhaps the most expensive-smelling perfume I know. All Chanels are decent quality, of the newest No 19 Poudré is not bad.

Good department store choices: Dior Eau Sauvage and perhaps even Escale à Portofino.

animula, I do have Space NK nearish me, but never go in as I'm scared I will spend £££££££££. I do enough damage to my bank account in Boots.

I haven't noticed Tom Ford in H of F, but I'm usually checking out Bulgari. I can't decide which to go for, but they all smell expensive.

LynetteScavo · 01/06/2012 16:44

Tom Ford smells like Este Lauder? Hmm I can't stand any EL purfumes. Knowing makes me heave.

mathanxiety · 01/06/2012 17:44

So Pretty de Cartier is my all time favourite.

I love Fragonard Soleil on me as it develops (gift from DD1). I wear it in winter. I also love Coco Mademoiselle (gift to DD1 from me)

cahu · 01/06/2012 17:54

Creeds Love in White .... Love it but it's ££££££ for me I'm afraid.

chipstick10 · 01/06/2012 17:55

Acqua di parma essenza, yummy.

Ishoes · 01/06/2012 18:08

I love knowingAngry I know it is not for everyone as is very strong-Agent provocateur smells very similiar imo-love that too! I douse myself in both so best avoid me!

QuinnFabray · 01/06/2012 18:10

Plum by Mary Greenwell.

Zondra · 01/06/2012 22:28

I'm having a Mitsouko ( pure parfum) phase at the moment.
It smells expensive & chic.
DH loves it as he thinks it smells like "proper" perfume that a sophisticated femme fatale would wear! Haha!

animula · 01/06/2012 22:34

Hello fellow-Mitsouko-phase-lady. Smile I'm wearing it a lot at the moment too. I find it incredibly cheering. somehow it seems to lift my mood more than any other perfume I have. So, not so much expensive-smelling as an olfactory anti-depressant! am I the only one to find that??

zipzap · 01/06/2012 22:47

I used to wear Mitsouko too - twas lovely and I always thought it smelt expensive. but after a few years of wearing it, it began to make me itch so I can't wear it anymore :( I do have my old bottle with the (now very old) remnants of perfume in, at the bottom of my undies drawer so I still get a whiff of it every now and then which makes me smile.

Looking for new perfume the other day, I sprayed on one that smelt lovely - similar to Mitsouko, bingo methinks, I shall have that. And then discovered that it was mega expensive - £100+ for a small bottle :( - so I put it down again until I win the lottery and have resigned myself to just getting a squirt of it every time I walk past the counter in John Lewis! It was Soir de Lune by Sisley - not one that I had come across before.

cocolepew · 02/06/2012 17:16

I think the m and s new york is a copy of RL Safari.

wildstrawberryplace · 02/06/2012 17:24

I think of niche perfumes as expensive, really, not so much mainstream high end brands.

Ishoes · 02/06/2012 18:54

I love Mitsouko but can only afford the eau de toilette which doesnt last-if anyone has any spare bottles they are looking to get rid ofGrin

coffeeinbed · 02/06/2012 20:52

For me is Hiris. The most expensive smelling scent.

I have Black Orchid, had to ask for the small size for Xmas as even the normal size bottle was £££. It's way too heavy for summer though. I've had to splash out on a mini bottle of a summery perfume to get me through to Oct.

BrandyAlexander · 02/06/2012 21:26

Michael by Michael Kors. Just the most gorgeous perfume ever. I dont wear it very often because it's the perfume I chose for my wedding day. I get complimented and asked what it is every single time I wear it. Just gorgeous.

On a day to day basis Flowerbomb by Viktor & Rolf, Gucci Envy, J'Adore by Dior are the three I wear most. All lovely.

Sigh, think I might put some Michael Kors on for the sake of it for bed. Grin

kiwijesta · 02/06/2012 22:25

I also love Narsisco Rodruiguez (sp??) for Her, it was my wedding perfume and I'm just about at the end of my second bottle, must get more!

animula · 02/06/2012 23:26

Coffeeinbed - do you mean Hiris by Hermes? That's one of my very favourite perfumes, and my "first love"! I don't come across that many people who've heard of it. I live in terror that it's going to be discontinued.

I am so Smile to find someone else who likes this!! Mind you, that is making an assumption on my part. This is a thread about "expensive smelling", rather than "liking". It is interesting to find out what people associate with "expensive".

Cocolepew - I did wonder if New York was a lookie-likie (or smellie-likie) of something more famous. So you think it's Safari? Hmmm. Can't remember what Safari's like at all.

TerraNotSoFirma · 02/06/2012 23:32

Hermes Caleche, I will have a bottle one day. I will, I will, I will.

coffeeinbed · 03/06/2012 08:46

Animula, I love it. Funnily enough I bought mine in TK Maxx, of all places.
It's the best iris - I read that they used the whole of the plant. It's magic.

I think for me expensive smell is something that's a bit quiet and understated and not immediately identifiable.

I have and will happily wear big brash perfumes - I am a bit of a perfume tart, but expensive smelling they are not, even though some cost a lot.

AmberNectarine · 03/06/2012 09:10

People who like Angel, try Wish by Chopard, similar notes but a lot cheaper (esp if you buy it on EBay!)

shoeprincess2 · 03/06/2012 09:12

This is something that I am always on the hunt for- expensive and exclusive smelling fragrances, that aren't run of the mill. I recently smelt Diane by DVF and it was a bit like Aromatics Elixir, but less headache inducing. I thought that smelt quite expensive. I like a lot of the Chanel ones and also think YSL Elle is expensive smelling. I would quite like to own a Miller Harris or Acqua Di Parma fragrance- any suggestions for a summer scent that has excellent sillage and longevity (oh, and that smells expensive)?
