That's where I saw it!! Made me weep!!!!!!i just love handbags.....lust over them really. Have too many. Honestly don't need any more but thy are so wonderful aren't they.
What I do need is a decent purse......my sil got a Mulberry one for her birthday which is an excellent design.
Am currently compiling my birthday wish list (not till Dec)

madammecholet · 22/04/2012 16:27

I loved all the neon bags in that feature, altho wouldn't know when to wear them and some of the pastel bags were to die for. Tried to look up a couple but they're not on sale yet.. No3 on page 27, Dolce & Gabbana pink tote was gorg but at £786, was never gonna happen!

OP posts:
drywhiteplease · 22/04/2012 17:53

Agree about neon. My hag staple colours are black(many too many)shades of brown from chocolate ,tan to beige, then red is really useful but my red is falling apart Sad saw a Lulu Guiness Romily bag in red, gorgeous but big price tag. Now I think a mid blue and my wardrobe would be complete.

I will tell you my handbag epic tale that only handbag lovers will appreciate and sympathise with. (hope I don't out self though)

You've seen the types of bags I like. Quite safe I suppose. Anyway dh is lovely and can be v generous at times. Pressie wise we don't go mad normally, but occasionally he does. I would certainly never ask for a Mulberry bag or cartier watch (two dream items) think it presumptuous and rather cheeky. Usually get modest presents which are fine because he has NO IDEA about fashion....that is MY area.Smile

Anyway, few christmases ago we were at in laws and he brought my present in. It was in a V Westwood carrier. I started feeling v nervous as my face says it all, lousy liar and alarm bells ringing and don't want to offend and just knew it was a potential disaster, he'd obviously gone off piste! Shit.Hmm

Now, I do think V W is amazing. Her tailoring (not that I own any) is unbelievable and I love her 18c type dresses a la Tracy Emin/nigella. Her wedding dresses are divine. But the bag and matching purse (why?why?) I unveiled that Christmas morning in front of whole in law family drew a collective gasp (not like the one we all did this yr when sil opened her oak Bayswater) but a shocked "fucking hell has he completely lost his bloody marbles and bought a hideous huge piece of neon graffitied PVC with leather handles" (with matching purse remember) kind of gasp. Shock]

As soon as I got it out he said "you don't like it" and I really found it hard to pretend. Bloody awful. Felt such an ungrateful bitch. It was almost hold all size and the last bag I would ever have chosen and to add insult to injury the VW shop is right next to Louis Vuitton and Mulberry, even Radley not far away. And the cost.......I have never spent more that £200 on a bag (and that is extravagant) and would never ask for anything of tht value, but my one chance to get a fabulous bag and it was hideous!!!!!!!!!!!!Sad

Anyway, he was really offended, had tried to buy me something different and original. I ended up exchanging it for two smaller bags (one is PVC tartan, the other leather has worn really badly,) that I would never have chosen myself. He said he'd never buy me a surprise again (phew).... But I keep thinking for the same amount I could have had a classic Bayswater and matching purse!!!!!still everyone has got a Bayswater where I live.Sad

Hope you are crying with me....it's tragic isn't it?!!!!!!!oh well we can laugh about "westwoodgate" now.......just.Grin

madammecholet · 22/04/2012 18:12

drywhiteplease that is indeed a tragic story, I take it they would only exchange the bag and not refund?

Got any pics of the VW one? I'd love a snort!

My DH is exactly the same, I had a similar moment a few xmas's ago when he had wanted to get some extra diamonds put on my engagement ring I sound like such a spoilt cow it was a lovely ring, but a small original diamond, what we could afford at the time and now 12 years on he wanted to add to it...actually put 4 more on it ok, spoilt cow We went together, had it re designed but then he collected it and gave it to me xmas day. I hated it. They had set it far too low and the diamonds looked just meh. We'd paid a pretty packet for just meh. I spent the whole day feeling like the whole family thought I was a spoilt brat, but I knew I wasn't happy with it and altho I was bright and gushing, he KNEW! I took to another jeweller a year later and had it re set. I now LOVE it, and altho DH 'gets' it now, at the time I felt awful!

Lesson for all DH's is if you're going to surprise go 'classic' rather than bonkers! Poor love, will he ever surprise you again do you think??

You ladies need to get on Pinterest.

You set up a moodboard wishlist of clothes, jewellery, things for the house etc and email your other half the link. Simples.

I cannot tell you how much better DH's presentgiving has become since I registered.

madammecholet · 22/04/2012 18:40

That is bloody genius thomasbodleyGrin

drywhiteplease · 22/04/2012 18:45

madammecholet we are kindred spirits. I hope I don't sound like spoiled cow either.

The prob is if you are going to spend a considerable amount you need to do your research (husbands here) talking to fiends, listening for subtle hints and I agree classic is best. Your diamond story is the same as my bag tale. A lovely thought but dangerous. I'm not sure whether I will get that sort of surprise again...but I have had surprise weekends away etc which is prob better than a handbag.

It's difficult though because I'm not the type to go into a shop with dh (he actually never goes to shops, apart from VW Grin) and choose something, I would worry about the cost. Having said that I do like nice things.I'd prefer it if he gave me a budget but that's a bit cut and dry.

Funny thing is, he did check with my friend. Originally he was going to buy me (and don't judge him on this, he really is a nice guy) a remote controlled Hoover!!!!!!!!!she told him that was a terrible idea and he should get me a handbag instead......should have been more specific though.

BTW since you are a handbag lover, answer me this question, if money were no object which bag would you get? Mulberry is the bag du jour (pretentious moi?!!) and a great classic brand but there are a lot around. Marc Jacobs does some nice black ones. But black or tan? It is a question I spend hours trying to solve.(such a busy life!)

Have looked at VW website for my bag but about 3yrs ago. Will look on eBay........there must be some there!!!!!

madammecholet · 22/04/2012 19:29

drywhiteplease I DREAM about handbags, I prob need professional help. My current major £££ lust are Gucci bags and I regularly lick the laptop screen when I visit their site. For example <a class="break-all" href="http://www.google.co.uk/imgres?q=gucci+1970+shoulder+bag+in+gold+anaconda&hl=en&sa=X&rlz=1C1DSGP_enGB465GB465&biw=1600&bih=732&tbm=isch&prmd=imvns&tbnid=LtjI8NLulRWg0M:&imgrefurl=www.gucci.com/us/styles/290682ERS0T8000&docid=chB0gW-c1iK-LM&imgurl=www.gucci.com/images/ecommerce/styles_new/201109/web_zoomin/290682_ERS0T_8000_001_web_zoomin.jpg&w=1480&h=1632&ei=5E2UT--fJMaQ8gO6tsHNDA&zoom=1&iact=hc&vpx=171&vpy=125&dur=675&hovh=236&hovw=214&tx=105&ty=139&sig=101657761933166904623&page=1&tbnh=127&tbnw=115&start=0&ndsp=40&ved=1t:429,r:0,s:0,i:67" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">this 1970 Shoulder bag in gold anaconda is worthy of a screen lick.... I've loved them for years, and if I won the lottery i'd march straight in and buy one. Just the one, the prices are ridiculous so I prob wouldn't be able to bring myself to buy more liar liar pants on fire..

drywhite I feel your pain. I too would be gutted. I utterly adore handbags although at the moment only really carry around a changing bag as have a 10mnth old. I adore radley which I know are often despised on here but I would love a radley grosvenor. My 'if I win the lottery ' lust list is a Dior (used to hanker after a Chanel but too waggish now) or a mulberry mini alexa in grey. I just can't imagine owning a bag that expensive though, I'd be worried I'd be mugged or it would be nicked!

drywhiteplease · 22/04/2012 20:22

I'd have one of these
fendi spy in brown perhaps

Marni23 · 22/04/2012 20:54

I had a chocolate brown Mulberry Roxanne. It was the first and only designer bag I've ever owned. It got nicked. Am still traumatised.

ThreadWatcher · 22/04/2012 20:55

I saw this shop in Shrewsbury recently and struggled to resist going in and buying one. I especially like the visconti ones on this link:The real handbag shop

Next years visit to Shrewsbury I might not resist. :)

QueenCadbury · 22/04/2012 20:55

I've just looked at the you supplement with all the bags and am also seriously lusting after some of the jewellery and watches (my other weakness). Luckily shoes don't do it for me!
Enjoy your lie down Smile
