Ok so after now ordering new foot buffers and looking into moroccan oil I just wondered if there were any beauty products that you really hate and would not recommend. Sorry if this has been done before, I did do a search.

Mine is benefit some kind-a-gorgeous foundation. Ended up purchasing this after wandering into one of their stores where the women would looked like she was caked in it slapped it all over my face catching me rather unawares. Admittedly the primer I also purchased is actually quite nice but the foundation is not exactly subtle and ended up looking like Ive caked it on. Plus it didnt last very long for the price.

OP posts:

Any Superdrug own brand skin care makes my skin burn like hell (have had friends say the same)
Butter London nail varnish chipped by the end of the day , even though I have gel nails that hold most polishes for weeks at a time!

lololizzy · 27/03/2012 00:03

oops not Bourjois foundation think it was Maybelline? but hate Bourjois foundation too, most go on streaky and blotchy on my skin

lololizzy · 27/03/2012 00:09

Most of my mistakes seem to be pricey ones! :-(
Also remembered...
Hourglass Script eyeliner
Laura Geller spackle
Two Faced waterproof (not!) eye liners

pluckingupcourage · 27/03/2012 00:45

many many brands of moroccan oil shizzle: recommended by smug real life friends who "don't use silicone anymore" ... guess what most of the moroccan oil shizzle contains ... silicone which gives me spots all round my hair line and lankness ... oh the lankness

IwoulddoPachacuti · 27/03/2012 00:55

Almost every mascara I have ever bought. I have yet to find some miracle worker which will give me lush, bambi lashes

Anything Max Factor - I end up spotty.

Avon makes my skin itch

The foundation I'm using at the moment is a Rimmel one and gives great coverage. All the money I have spent on expensive ones [weeps]

Oh! And the Waitrose Bottom Butter - it did hee haw for my skin!!

theseventhdwarf · 27/03/2012 07:19

Is 8 hour cream not Lansinoh in a bofferent package? (or rather lanolin in a different package?)
I use it for dry skin sometimes but the smell reminds me if heavy Aran jumpers and wooly sheep (childhood spent on a farmWink

wheresthepopcorn · 27/03/2012 07:54

Ditto YSL touch eclat - made my undereyes dry and itchy. Maybelline mascara - not effective, Benefit badgal mascara - ran, Palmers Stretch Mark Cocoa Butter Cream - expensive, smells terrible

wheresthepopcorn · 27/03/2012 07:58

Pore strips - remember those? Load of rubbish!

MorrisZapp · 27/03/2012 08:21

Kerasatase oleo relax serum. So many celeb endorsements, such failure to deliver.

I've actually bought it three times, as I want to believe it works!

It doesn't.

Saying that, I love love love origins pinch your cheeks. Desert island stuff, so it is.

MorrisZapp · 27/03/2012 08:25

Beauty flash balm is guff too.

Biggest rip off of all time though was Michael Kors Leg Shine, as featured in a gazillion mags a couple of years ago.

Check out the universal slating on makeupalley :)

CatPower · 27/03/2012 08:35

Any Loreal mascara - makes my eyelashes stick together so I look as though I have three super-thick lashes, rather than lots of thin luscious ones.

Benefit - their foundations are thick and cakey, the tinted moisturiser patchy. I do love Benetint and their Dandelion blusher, though.

Nair fruit wax stuff - comes from the lowest level of hell. Same goes for their "sensitive" facial cream. IT BURNS.

Boots No7 nail polish - takes forever to dry, even the quick drying stuff.

LucyManga · 27/03/2012 10:44

Maybelline mascaras - always seem dried out and like they have gone off?

8 Hour Cream - stinks and no idea what its meant to do?

Agree that Beauty Flash Balm is a load of shite, too.

Mineral make up makes me look haggard. Awful stuff.

whackamole · 27/03/2012 11:59

I want to love mineral powder foundations, but they just look awful. Cheap ones are really cakey and don't look natural - the MAC one I bought didn't even give as much coverage as a face powder and caked over normal foundation.

I like Benefit, but it is overpriced. Bad Gal mascara is rubbish.

I always always used MakeupAlley to check reviews before I buy stuff now. I only discovered it recently though so I dread to think of how much money I have wasted on stuff not suited for my skin.

Also - does it annoy anyone else that in the US you can return make up if it doesn't suit (I'm assuming they return to the manufacturers where it is re-sterilised) but here you can't? I bought a MAC lippie which looked lovely in store, in real life it is vile, far far too bright and just all wrong. Money down the drain as I will never use it and can't return it!

I was absolutely determined 8 hour cream was gonna work miracles for me - it didn't. Such a waste of money and all hype. I bought a Nars cream duo eyeshadow and it's horrendous. Cost £25 and it creases REALLY badly. Won't ever buy from Nars again. And yep, agree with Pantene being terrible. Oily crap that smells awful. Be gone Pantene.

whackamole · 27/03/2012 12:19

Good idea issimma. Will try and get round to it. I hate listing stuff on ebay though!

awinawin · 27/03/2012 12:21

Laura Mercier (heresy!) illuminating tinted moisturiser - CRAP and makes you look sweaty and shiny all day

MiladyGardenia · 27/03/2012 12:35

Glad to see others detest the 8 hour cream.

I couldn't believe it when I smelt good old lanolin and Vaseline under the top notes of vilest-vile perfume.

SephoraRosebud · 27/03/2012 13:22

8 hr cream
Idealist
Benefit anything
Paul Mitchell hair products- used to be good years ago, not now.

MsNorbury · 27/03/2012 15:49

Agree Laura mercier crsp.

BonfireOfKleenex · 27/03/2012 16:53

The St Tropez Gradual Tan - reeks like what I would imagine Hyacinth Bucket's toilet deodoriser to smell of.

Abra1d · 27/03/2012 17:02

I swear by Eight Hour as a lip salve. Vaseline dries my lips out; Eight Hour doesn't. We always have some around as my teenagers also like to use it before bed or when they're out playing sport.

lololizzy · 27/03/2012 19:39

agree about Laura M tinted...i looked like a weird, shiny ghost....yet two different stores had recommended that particular shade to me

warmandwooly · 27/03/2012 20:51

I love Eve Lome cleanser, I had a tube of Beauty Flash and lost it. Anyone with a tube they want to off load......

warmandwooly · 27/03/2012 20:53

Ps they are launching a fragrance free version of eitght hour cream this month/next month I think
