new thread!

Decameron: I ooohed at every single one of your purchases - particularly the Boden one. Love the broderie anglaise and might just have to break 2 bans - one on any purchases prior to the summer sales, and another on buying anything from Boden!

notyummy - Medised is a decongestant with the beneficial side effect for any long airplane trip of making children very drowsy. It was recommended to me by the pharmacist when DS1 was a toddler and not sleeping due to congestion. Hopefully she won't need it.

Red: good decision on the pink.

Ollie: Love the jacket - has a Chanel vibe about it, and you'll get lots of use out of it. Definitely W&A.

Marsha: I love gardens, but unfortunately have a black thumb. Thank goodness I live so close to Kew Gardens, and on a day like today, it was glorious just losing myself there. I do love autumn, but nothing is like autumn in New England. Just stunning (flame reds, oranges, yellow, siennas, and greens - and in such quantity), and the smell....ahhhhhh!

In terms of MU - the 24th of June is better for me, but the week prior is OK too .

MrsCampbellBlack · 21/03/2012 19:04

I think medised has been discontinued - was an outraged thread on here about it last week.

So I may have purchased the farhi jacket as shop in town only had one left in my size in navy and none online whatsoever!

Really pleased with it though - had a little try-on at home and with sleeves rolled up it works brilliantly with my coloured skinnies.

Oh saw online the whistles breton MIM mentioned - looks promising but why do the stylists on the whistles site dress the model in size 10's when she is quite clearly a size 6 if that.

Momin - that boden top is so pretty and if you get as much wear out of it as I have out of last year's whistles - its a very wise buy.

Must confess I'm not massively keen on gardening but can't find a reliable gardener (and yes my diamond shoes are also too tight) Wink so mil is teaching me. Well that means she comes and does stuff and I ooh and aah a lot.

rufus101 · 21/03/2012 19:18

Fantastic news MIM! Well done!
NY really hope DD is recovering.
Decam feel a trip to BTs coming on. Pale pink shoes, that would be lovely. Or silver. She is dead set on the white/cream though. Is very fixated on a pair she saw in Barratts (cheapie shop) that she is convinced are "ideal". As she saw them as we were literattly flying past the shop.....
Must dash. Am off to my bookclub. Haven't finished the book Blush a first for me.

rufus101 · 21/03/2012 19:20

I despise gardening. My DH enjoys the garden, but doesn't spend enough time in it, so it looks dreadful. As a friend of mine say "I keep firing my gardener, but he keeps coming back...." (ie her DH!)

MarshaBrady · 21/03/2012 19:32

Ooh yes Momin I lived in Boston for a year and took the bus (or train, I can't recall) to Canada in Autumn. It was amazing! The colours were fantastic. Also had Thanksgiving somewhere pretty and small with a friend's family. Getting hazy now, but it was a really great time of year.

Kew Gardens are lovely. I'm heartened by the imagery of Slay near Austin roses too, grazing deer and what not. Nice imagery.

I'm not a good gardener by any stretch of the imagination, but I have worked out that if I plant small trees, bigger plants they tend not to die. (I've found out the hard way with loads of very small stuff wilting away). I know I'm not good because people say they don't like gardening and I think but I just buy stuff and plant it every few years. I know this means there is loads more I am missing, but am blissfully unaware! Grin.

Momin that Boden top is so pretty and it would really suit you. Worth bending that rule for I think!

MarshaBrady · 21/03/2012 19:42

I am looking for a really nice sun/straw hat now for summer. Wide brim, good shape. Surprisingly hard to find.

NY hope your dd is ok, how is she doing?

Decameron · 21/03/2012 19:48

Yes Momin, join me in the Boden top! You must live near enough to me.

I used to go to Boston for weekends, it's a lovely place.

I remember Barrats, *Rufus. You need to steer her in the direction of BTs, and quick!

MrsCB, it's a sign, you couldn't leave the jacket behind.

I have just sent back a couple of Boden outfits I bought for DD1 as she is going through a pink/purple phase and will refuse to wear some the cute little things I bought her for summer. Annoying but maybe I will get another top for myself or DD2 as she is too young to protest. :o

Dauphin · 21/03/2012 20:02

Hello!

Wow...many congratulations MiM!

Belated congratulations Itsnotunusual!

Lovely haul Decameron. I always love your things!

Bonsoir-are you going to host it then? Count me in....

Mrscb - I cannot believe you have a further 7lbs to lose....no way! No, definitely not....

DH away so supping a small measure (aherm) of white wine and soda, and looking forward to salad leaves, sardines and pine nuts (yes, really). The 3DCs were bathed, looking angelic in pj's and asleep by 7pm....phew! When DH is here he makes the stories too funny!!!! So, of course, it all takes much longer!

I fear it is a sign of age that I have become very interested in gardening...in the new place we will have a sort of potager to grow things we really love, and there is a small orchard. I also love trees Marsha, lucky you with a Magnolia Red. I adore them. We have to plant hedging too, so am looking at hawthorn and berry yielding plants.

Other than that quite natural, but I love classic english gardens: box hedging, lavender, roses, wisteria's, and also blowsy camellias (we almost used the name for our DD incidentally)....

Dauphin · 21/03/2012 20:07

Decameron I feel for you. I am heartily sick of pink. DDs wear a lot of red and navy, but still yearn for pink...what a horrid mother I am! Actually my DS refuses to wear certain things, like new jeans etc...and nothing will talk him around! I have given stuff away before because he resolutely refuses to even try it on....Hmm

AmberNectarine · 21/03/2012 20:10

Seeing ny, bloss and hopefully in the flesh has inspired me tonight so I have just braved L1 of Ripped. Must have some sort of base level of fitness as found it actually ok, even when toddler was straddling me during the reverse crunches. Probably need to increase weights from the puny little 1.5s I'm working with though. Will investigate DHs which are gathering dust under our bed. Undoing it all with homemade lamb Rogan Josh for dinner. Ah, well, diet starts tomorrow...

OP posts:
MarshaBrady · 21/03/2012 20:13

Oh yes me too Dauphin. Pretty, flowery English gardens.

Well done Amber Ok I need to run or swim instead. Yes that's it, that's my excuse.

ApuskiMcClusky · 21/03/2012 20:13

First chance I've had to get online all day, and was desperate to see the news - congratulations MiM, so glad to see your news!

Right, will read the rest of the thread now!

MrsCampbellBlack · 21/03/2012 20:14

I love lavender and bought lots last year and ahem watched sainted mil plant it and then prune in the autumn.

We have a gorgeous wisteria which goes up one wall of our house and is my favourite plant ever - always knew I'd end up in a house covered in wisteria.

Dauphin · 21/03/2012 20:21

Your MIL sounds a dream mrscb... mine did actually do masses of cuttings when we moved, and they are going strong in pots. Yes, Wisteria is beautiful. We want to plant one too.

bretonbee · 21/03/2012 20:38

Mim congratulations on the birth of your DD, what a lovely spring day to be born on.

All this talk of gardens is making me very Envy as I don't have one at the moment and although I am not green fingered at all but I do like a bit of pottering outside in the summer. We are lucky to live next to a park but it is nice to have your own space I think. It is definitely one of my criteria for my next move although am staying here for the time being as with DP moving out sometime soon Sad I want to keep as much stability for DS as possible.

On the park note though....I live in London and although I don't "know" you all very well, would love to join your MU in the summer if I am able and I do have imo an extremely cute DS Smile

Love the shopping Decameron I have that red NF top too although I haven't worn it yet, makes me feel all summery when I look at it.

blossoming · 21/03/2012 20:50

Lovely shopping today decameron!
Will be back later. May place a NaP order.

MarshaBrady · 21/03/2012 20:51

Bretonbee sorry to hear about your dp. But fab yes do come. Be great to meet you.

I should say anyone who fancies it and doesn't live in London is welcome of course.

Russianred · 21/03/2012 20:56

Your MIL sounds excellent MrsCB. I also love lavender and wisteria, in fact, I think I shall stick both on the list for FIL to put into the garden. I think it's important that the ILs feel involved in our homes Wink. Dauphin, DH and I used to walk around suburban London in our courtship (the glamour) and look at a house with a magnolia and decided we would end up with one in our garden. When we saw this place, despite of how run-down it was, we decided it was an omen.

Breton living next to a park is a lovely thing - we also did for a long time, but I get that feeling of wanting to be able to open a door and have a garden there. Hope DP's moving out goes as smoothly as it possibly can; imagine the transition will be really hard for all of you.

The Whistles dress is lovely, but have to agree with MrsCB - it is hanging off the model. Am now torn between that dress and a chambray shirt dress to fill an imagined gap in my summer wardrobe. On that note, how many Breton dresses are too many Breton dresses? I currently own 5, but have one on its last legs that is v similar to the Whistles one. In fairness, I do wear them all. It's a bit like NY and her maxis (how many are you taking with you?!)

bretonbee · 21/03/2012 21:12

Thanks Marsha will be nice to have something in the diary to look forward to.

I also wanted to ask any London ladies if they would recommend a particular HoC consultant (Central, SW, W preferably) they have seen as I'm thinking of treating myself. I think I generally know what suits me / what to avoid but reading some of your comments (bloss, hopefully etc) it seems really useful to have a clearer idea of what colours really work and I am sure it would make me wiser in my purchases!

Hopefully · 21/03/2012 21:14

MrCB I love love love that Farhi jacket. If anyone sees a similar biker not in leather, feel free to link! Neither of the Farhi colours any good on me, sadly.

Decameron also loving your Farhi striped top. Maybe I should spend more time keeping an eye out for Farhi stuff.

Gardening - I like useful stuff like growing herbs and vegetables, but pretty flowery gardening just drives me bonkers with boredom. Luckily my mother loves it, so I try to find the time to shove her out in the garden when she visits and it stops her nagging me to polish glassware.

Amber you are about half my size, I am at inspiring you. I did L2 tonight, but I really know I'm due a rest day tomorrow - the fourth or fifth day on the trot is always really hard for me.

Would love to come to wafty London meet up if it's somewhere accessible from Victoria station with two small people in tow (i.e. any of the more central parks). Have you already picked a venue?

Breton sorry about your DH, it sounds like the best thing for both of you but that probably doesn't make it any more enjoyable right now.

Red if you wear them all, then one more breton dress is definitely allowed.

Hopefully · 21/03/2012 21:17

Sigh. Computer crashed at crucial moment. That post had crossings out, smileys, italics and bolds when I first wrote it. Insert them as you please Grin

Decameron · 21/03/2012 21:29

Hopefully :)

That Breton dress is nice, Red. I am sure it differs in some small way from the other five? That is how I justify my navy summer dresses.

Yes, BretonBee, really sorry that your DH is moving out. Hope to meet you in the summer.

Hi Dauphin. I don't mind a bit of pale pink and it does suit the DDs (I have decided that they are summers!) but mixed with navy, khaki etc, not head to toe and accessorised with a Hello Kitty handbag. It is funny as she is a bit of a tombou and most of her friends are boys.

Reine, I think I will be going to Westfield on Tues morning if you are around (and anyone else local)? I will have the baby with me. She is fascinated with the lights there.

Off to bed now for fear that DD2 wakes at 2am again!

Decameron · 21/03/2012 21:30

Tomboy, not tombou. That sounded quite French, n'est-ce pas? Wink

AmberNectarine · 21/03/2012 21:31

Breton I went to Colette Douglas in Wimbledon, who I thought was excellent.

hopefully I suspect we are a similar size except I am a lot wobblier!

Decameron · 21/03/2012 21:31

We have lavender in our garden patio too, I love it.
