So I am curvy with a big bust and big bottom and a comparitively little waist I'm somewhere between a 12/14, jeans has always given me a bit of a muffin top but now I have a little post baby belly I've started to loath them. I'm always having to hoik them up as they slip down, I never feel comfortable in them so I QUIT!!! I want to wear dresses, nice comfy day dresses that accentuate my curvy-ness in a good way, so anyone got any suggestions for a jeans free life?

Sherlock - thanks for checking them out. Going to head there tomorrow so will try both on.

Well done on getting a whistle. Heading to my local shop on Sunday a disembodied voice from an orange van yelled "big ones!" Not sure what response he may have been looking for Confused.

I have now dressipi-ed and like others have been wearing the wrong styles too (also smacks forehead).

IHeartKingThistle · 06/03/2012 18:44

Kaumana I've ordered the coral belted one from Matalan, don't think it'll work with leggings but had a moment of madness and thought it was pretty!

I'm not in the 12-14 big norks club - can I start a beanpole-shaped club? Who are the tall people who have problems with maxis? I was thinking about getting a maxi skirt- any thoughts?

IHeartKingThistle · 06/03/2012 18:46

Oh that sounded bad - I wasn't being snooty about the 12-14 big norks club, honestly!

rightchoice · 06/03/2012 19:07

Just logged on.... Sherlock there will be no stopping you now. I love it that you got a whistle today!!! I have been wearing dresses for 2-3 years instead of trousers, and love it. Bought some beauties too so easy as you don't have to worry about 'what goes with it'. Nice dress, black thick tights or leggins. I still like footless tights too in the summer if you don't want to get the legs out! Love this thread.

SherlockKnomes · 06/03/2012 19:11

we'll crush you with our norks iheart.... silver I would go with a waist cincher belt like this i bought one for a quid off ebay last week so they don't need be pricey. Who linked the asos blue dress with white buttons? its luuurvely!

Has anyone seen Vivian of Holloway dresses? I find them more aspirational than something I could wear in real life (don't really have the confidence)... and the models are beautiful.

Sorry Iheart, I'm 12-14 with medium sized norks though I'm 5'7. Probably a dress for every shape though isnt there?

cabbageandbeans · 06/03/2012 19:20

this is possibly the worst thread I have ever had the misfortune to click on. Now all I want to do is go shopping and I feel very sad about ALL those beautiful dresses out there!
I want some!

I also hate jeans quite a lot (due to the above reasons cited by others) but I have to recommend Gap curvy jeans, they really suit those with a big bum/small waist. Quite a surprise in the comfort department and very flattering.

God, I love those dresses.

butterfingerz · 06/03/2012 19:21

Meeee Sherlock, hope it bloody fits ok, fingers crossed!

IHeartKingThistle · 06/03/2012 19:23

I used to have norks Sad

butterfingerz · 06/03/2012 19:31

Once I've finished BFin, I'll probably be norkless.

herbaceous · 06/03/2012 19:33

Kaumana - I love lots of those Matalan dresses, especially the yellow flower one and the orange pleaty one - and what a bargain!

I worry what to wear on the legs, though, at this time of year when they're knee-length or below. Leggings don't really work, I feel, unless the dress is above thigh, so are we talking tights and boots? Or ankle boots? There doesn't seem to be a flat, everyday shoe wearable with tights that isn't straight outta Mumsy Central.

ragged · 06/03/2012 19:41

Is there a thread on what "style" Dressipi reckons you are? It's got me down as "Elegant feminine preppy chic"; I don't even know what that means, let alone whether it's accurate.

I have to give a thumbs up though, on the suggested styles, aside from suggested shoes, suggestions are actually okay (even if the price tags are ridiculous).

I cannot wear dresses, though. I feel & look like a right prat in them.

Ooh, what to do?Had my heart set on wearing leggings, tights are one step to far for me at the mo. Taking baby steps away from wearing jeans.
On Dressipi I am feminine contemporary polished and understated?! but strangely they have no dresses that are my must have i.e. A line , V neck , knee length with 3/4 sleevesConfused

Issimma~ let me know if you find the elusive dress!

SaltResistantSlug · 06/03/2012 20:11

Sherlock what was the DP dress? Went out in one of theirs at the weekend and felt fab!!!

Morebiscuitsplease · 06/03/2012 20:16

I wear Boden dresses, very comfortable and flattering, also feel a tad glam. They have 25% off at the mo.

MadameChinLegs · 06/03/2012 20:25

I have the most horrific legs...what could you dress wearers recommend so I dont look daft with tights on in summer (though live in the north, so could probably get away with it!)

FrillyMilly · 06/03/2012 20:33

I've just been to matalan and bought my first pair of leggings! Only £8 and quite thick so no shiny bum. Bought a dress and two tunic tops. They have a lot of tunic tips which look nice with leggings.

I got this one tunic and this dress Both have buttons for easy nork access. The dress looks much nicer than on the website and looks fine with leggings.

kaumana · 06/03/2012 20:38

FrillyMilly you have made my day, that Falmer dress was one I had my eye on, glad to hear it works with leggings!

tyaca · 06/03/2012 21:01

am aghast at the whistling! and am also feeling very old cause i'm not even jealous - just resigned to never registering on anyone's radar again...

guys, we are doing sterling work here. think this thread maybe single handedly propping up the retail sector! i can't really get away with buying anything more at the moment. need to get ebaying some stuff to fund this habit. might just have to get myself some new leggings.

but just in case anyone's interested, if i did have a load of cash. here's what id be getting:

oasis green swoon

top shop shift it's prob look all wrong on my hourglass but love the simplicity. am imagining myself all glam and simple.

asos blue stripey

HoF funky

topshop nude c'est chic!

oh the wanting!

tyaca · 06/03/2012 21:02

oooh, that HoF link's come out wrong, it's the navy// yellow one i love

cabbageandbeans · 06/03/2012 21:11

Thought I made a comment on this thread but don't seem to have. I have had this revelation too, once. I met a mum who ALWAYS looked amazing in dresses and felt inspired as I have always had a lack of love for the jeans (although I must mention that Gap curvy fit are the best I have ever had and I don't believe there is a lot of hoicking up and no builders bum as far as I am aware.....)

I only have one (winter) dress and I love it so much that I often 'save it for best' which defeats the whole object really, as I only ever wear it in the evening.

ANYWAY - the dresses with links are beautiful and I really want to shop but have no ££££££. BOO

Sherlock, I do think the warehouse number a little glam for daytime! but the other one you bought is FANTASTIC!

cabbageandbeans · 06/03/2012 21:16

oh shame, I just found my comment. oops. Too much wine for a tuesday!
