So I am curvy with a big bust and big bottom and a comparitively little waist I'm somewhere between a 12/14, jeans has always given me a bit of a muffin top but now I have a little post baby belly I've started to loath them. I'm always having to hoik them up as they slip down, I never feel comfortable in them so I QUIT!!! I want to wear dresses, nice comfy day dresses that accentuate my curvy-ness in a good way, so anyone got any suggestions for a jeans free life?

yes, neutral ballet flats would go with everything, I'd go for grey, but my wardrobe generally consists of grey, purple, black white and navy, so grey would suit.

Sherlock, I love phase eight, but tend to only ever think of it for smarter, wedding guest type, outfits. Will have a neb at their more casual stuff.

I need some help
I hate jeans and wear them every day. Im really getting fed up. I would love to join you.
Thing is I have an odd shape. Im short and fat with bad legs and a very very large waist (if any). I look stupid in maxi dresses.
Dressipi hasnt helped as it suggests things that look ridiculous on me.

Am I destined to wear pants forever? :(

butterfingerz · 11/03/2012 08:11

cabbage have a look at French Connection? They have a lot of v-neck a-line dresses as dressipi seems to recommend for so many of us. Their styles are very understated and simple, I love em.

MadameChinLegs · 11/03/2012 08:21

Piston, welcome aboard Smile I am also short, have horrific legs and absoloutley no defenition around my waist and not even any bust to make up for the fact that I am at least 3 dress sizes bigger than I should be for my height. Would you wear opaque tights with a dress? I am planning on dress, opaques and flat black pumps most days (once my dresses get here). I will (naughty) even put a couple of the shorter dresses over straightleg jeans (cannot get away with 'skinnies').

I tried Dressippi too, and apparently, I have to wear vneck wrap over dresses, but they are all made out of that really clingy material, which does not flatter lumps and bumps. You are allready wearing something you hate everyday, so why not be brave, and embark upon a dress?

pistonbroke · 11/03/2012 08:27

I will try one but I do look awful in pumps (knock knees) so will have to investigate the shoe issue.

Im wondering what length to try

BettyBathroom · 11/03/2012 08:32

I have had success at Phase Eight It's officially a tunic and I will have to leggings as it's rather short! Does that count?

Will check do a massive order from Pepperberry and see where that takes me. I'm not too keen on wrap dresses for me though - just a bit bored by the shape - I'm not a classic dresser, I like to have something a bit more frivilous.Smile

Will have a look at LTS - although my big sis (6ft) shops there and she is always moaning about poor quality and high prices.... I think at 5ft 8, I'm still on the small size for a taller range...TopShop Tall drowns me.

butterfingerz · 11/03/2012 08:50

Piston how about this?

www.simplybe.co.uk/shop/product/details/show.action?pdLpUid=LE338&pdBoUid=5985&lpgUid=#colour:PRINT,size:

With leggings, as the model is wearing? It's fairly low key but pretty still. With a casual jacket or cardi, a waterfall type cardi maybe?

MadameChinLegs · 11/03/2012 08:57

piston, maybe try some wedges? Get the height without being too dressy? butter, that's a lovely tunic Smile

Oooh, betty, that stripey tunic is gorgeous.

MadameChinLegs · 11/03/2012 09:00

nice summery wedge

plain black summery wedge

pistonbroke · 11/03/2012 09:05

thanks...will try that

pistonbroke · 11/03/2012 09:06

The tunic wouldnt suit as I have a small bust

My belly is almost bigger than my bust Blush

QuickLookBusy · 11/03/2012 09:21

Can I join you?

I have realised that I love wearing dresses, but because of shape issues very rarely find ones that suit.

I'm 5 foot 3 and about a size 10. I've been told I have okish legs and waist, however my boobs are 32DD meaning that if something fits my waist perfectly it will usually flatten my chest so that I can hardly breath.

If I go for a dress which fits my boobs, the waist is huge and the dress drowns me. Hence I end up back in jeans.

However this thread has inspired me to keep looking and trying!

butterfingerz · 11/03/2012 09:38

quicklook try a style like this?

www.frenchconnection.com/product/Woman+Collections+Dresses/71DA7/Coralie+Jersey+Dress.htm

I have one of these but from winter in a berry print. It's stretchy jersey so you could order a size 10 as it would definitely stretch over your boobs (I'm a 36D and there's room for more boob in the dress I have!). It ties at the back so would bring the waist in. Doesn't show too much cleavage either. And very comfortable.

butterfingerz · 11/03/2012 09:41

Piston, do you need a better bra to emphasise your bust and even you out? And a good semi-tailored jacket with a dress could work for you, like emphasise the shoulders, draw attention from the tummy area.

MadameChinLegs · 11/03/2012 09:44

Quicklookbusy, Bravissimos clothes would probably be ideal for you then?

MadameChinLegs · 11/03/2012 09:46

Piston, something like this may suit you? The detail around the neck may draw the eye up? Also, although itn nips in at the waist, because the waist is the same colour it wont exaggerate it?

cabbageandbeans · 11/03/2012 09:54

Yes I will have a look at french connection - they have some lovely things. I have also had some minor success with Zara in the past but haven't seen anything online since we began our dress hunt!

QuickLookBusy · 11/03/2012 10:27

Thank you Madame I will have a look on their website.

butter I really like the shape of that dress, I'm not sure about the colour on me, but I will look out for that shape. I think it would suit me.

pistonbroke · 11/03/2012 10:30

I think I must be a freak

Im fat but should be very petite so things like jackets and covered necks swamp me and make me look silly.

I have a big belly ( Ive put loads of weight on jusy below my bust as I head into the menopause - its the first area I gained weight in when i was pg too, odd huh) - and spare tyre area, gosh i dont paint a pretty picture do I?

my bust is something like a 44a/b

I appreciate your advice and will try some styles though

and yes, I AM on a weight loss plan

pistonbroke · 11/03/2012 10:34

Im a size 16 btw

butterfingerz · 11/03/2012 11:21

This piston?

www.minuet-petite.co.uk/product.php?id=76620766#

Minuet Petite, they go up to a size 20. You may well find a jacket that doesn't swamp you too. I'm pretty sure you're not a freak, we're all shapes and sizes on here! You should see my 2xcaesarean apron belly, it ain't good and what with my saggy BFin boobs where very often one will be bigger than the other at some point during the day... well sometimes for your own sanity you have to overlook the bad and concentrate on the good!

TwllBach · 11/03/2012 16:56

cardi

Sorry, I went home (from work) yesterday and have only just got back on! It's actually a bit cutesy for me, but it was a moment of madness...

The clothes shopping yesterday has derailed my saving completely - today I ordered some rubbish for my wedding, even though we have sort of decided that we can't afford to have one until I find another job, and veg and flower seeds!

Friendlymum67 · 11/03/2012 19:18

I'm following this with interest too. Fed up with Jeans totally, they never sit on my waist, give me a muffin top, forever hoiking them up and generally feel a scruff.

I love leggings and boots with tunic dresses (esp as they cover my stomach!!) but its getting a bit warm/sunny for boots now, tho still too cold for sandals etc - I hate trying to decide what to wear at this time of year! :(

MadameChinLegs · 12/03/2012 11:04

Well, my dotty p dresses arrived today. Bit of a mixed bag. One was just ghastly, one had a wasit belt which just made me look even wider, so never mind that its a loverly colour, good length etc, it has to go back Sad and doesnt look right without the belt.

I have put a photo on my profile of the third dress (fourth dress is same as this but different colour). Now, I love it, and owuld wear it with leggings and skinny jeans (shhhhh, dont tell the OP!) BUT the arm holes are freaking tiny. I do have large upper arms, and generally find stuff with sleeves snug on the arms (or too baggy on the body if I get right size for arms). Think it's genetic. WHat do you think, could I alter the arms? I have nominal sewing skills. Or, is it not really that nice to bother? Im in all of a quandry.

ErnesttheBavarian · 12/03/2012 11:56

MmeCL, I am scared of being honest! But I would send the dress back tbh. I think a knee length dress would suit you better and be more flattering. I have just ordered a couple of (I think mock) wrap over dresses from M&S.

I think my legs look better with knee length skirts.

Maybe this is dumb Q, but one of the dresses I have ordered is navy. I have 1 navy skirt which I never wear cos my staple is black opaque tights with black shoes.

I have no idea what colour tights and shoes to wear with navy skirts? In summer you can get away without tights, and if feeling brave I guess red shoes, but when it's still v. cold and needing thick tights, what then with navy?
