Eek!

I hate going to the hairdresser, I really do. For the last few years I've got round this by doing the good old MN haircut, with varying degrees of success. In between haircuts, I've tended to straighten my hair so it looks vaguely presentable.

Now, two things have happened:

  • The GHDs have died
  • So I tried to cut my hair and totally ballsed it up.

And furthermore, I seem to suddenly have curly hair.
So, I've booked myself into a proper hairdresser on Saturday, and am now very, very nervous indeed. And I haven't got a clue what I want anyway.

So what do I ask for (other than a paper bag to cover my head breathe into)?

(BTW, it's not the pic on the front, the pics are on the next page of profile. And are really awful and will go pfft very soon)

Bob? Not too short, though.

It doesn't look that bad at all, at least on the photos. You're very pretty, too!

headfairy · 23/02/2012 20:25

OH my, if that's a bad hair day you'd better not look at mine

Erm, I actually wouldn't do a thing beyond a tidy up. I think the curly ends are really pretty. My only thing would be to put a bit of colour in, but I'm a colour fiend and haven't had my natural hair colour for 25 years I'd chuck in some blonde highlights to give it a bit more texture. Beyond that I wouldn't touch it!

cocolepew · 23/02/2012 20:28

It looks ok! I'd get some layers and a sweepy fringe in, just to make it more swishy.

holstenlips · 23/02/2012 20:29

Can we swap hair? I like yours, mine is much much worse. If anything just get them to lop a bit off, it looks nice curly ish though.

roguepixie · 23/02/2012 20:29

I'd go for a choppy bob. That way if (or perhaps, when) you get new GHD's it can be straightened or you could do a curly version...seeing as your hair has suddenly gone curly Grin.

The one thing you can hold on to though is that hair grows and you won't be having a bad hair day for long. If you saw some of my hair disasters you would realise just how lucky you are ConfusedGrin ... they were grim, grim I tell you. Grin

ShotgunNotDoingThePans · 23/02/2012 20:29

Your hair looks lovely (and I love your name).
I've always longed for hair that falls - just so - into a slight romantic wave.
I agree you just need to ask for a tidy up. Have a sense of entitlement as if you expect them all to fall at your feet and worship at the altar of your gorgeous hair and you'll be fine.

< If you manage this, give us a few tips >

debka · 23/02/2012 20:29

I think your hair is lovely. Sorry, that doesn't help at all does it...

roguepixie · 23/02/2012 20:30

Btw, forgot to say that your hair looks lovely as is, tbh Smile

holstenlips · 23/02/2012 20:30

Oh and don't straighten it

Jux · 23/02/2012 20:34

TBH I like your hair. I rather like your face too! Care to swap? Grin

I hate hairdressers too, and I usually just ask them what they think. For the last few years I have had a very wonderful come to my house and cut my hair. We were friends before I knew she was a hairdresser too, so we're all happy.

ThatVikRinA22 · 23/02/2012 20:36

i love the waves! why do people with wavy hair always iron it flat while i would kill for some waves and body in mine.

anyway - i really like it - it doesnt look much like it needs much other than a tidy up and id defo leave the waves to wave! its very glam, all hollywood starlet....

TheMoistWorldOfSeptimusQuench · 23/02/2012 20:37

Aw, thanks you lot, you are all lovely and complimentary. I feel a bit better now.

I was vaguely thinking of something a bit bob-like. It's very split endy as well, and very uneven at the back.

I think I might not replace the GHDs, they're so expensive (although the last ones lasted about 8 years, so pretty good value for money I guess). Perhaps they've had their day? Could be time for the Babyliss big hair instead? I like the idea of big hair!

Yes stay away from the straightners, your waves are lovely Envy

TheMoistWorldOfSeptimusQuench · 23/02/2012 20:39

Colour, you say?

And I will practice the grandiose sense of entitlement Grin That sounds like very good advice.

Your hair looks great! Good condition, nice waves. And you have lovely eyes.

AwkwardMary · 23/02/2012 20:41

Moist you do not look 39! It's not as bad as you made out...I think it's pretty and I also think you look a bit like Dharma from Dharma and Greg and therefore a pixie cut would look amazing.

CMOTDibbler · 23/02/2012 20:44

I think with a bit more shaping, and layers round the front with maybe a diagonal fringe it would look great in that style. Then you wouldn't need to straighten it.
You look gorgeous btw

dreamingbohemian · 23/02/2012 20:45

Oh gosh, I think your hair looks nice! The wavy ends are lovely. I would just get a bit more of a sweepy angled fringe if that makes sense.

It's quite youthful too. Resist the bob! Wink

ShotgunNotDoingThePans · 23/02/2012 20:48

Don't get a Big Hair whatever you do! They're shite.
If you struggle to dry it yourself get the hairdresser to show you. They love talking about hair! Grin

brdgrl · 23/02/2012 20:50

I think it is very nice as is...I also think a bob, but a sort of 1940's inspired bob, which would suit your waves...

I think your hair is nice - I would just add a bit more body and would recommend the Babyliss Big Hair

messymammy · 23/02/2012 20:51

Oh I love your hair! Just get a little tidy up. I love the curly ends, wish my hair did that.

ImproperlyAcquainted · 23/02/2012 20:51

I clicked on here hoping to see someone with worse hair than me and I am bitterly disappointed. It totally suits your fucking gorgeous face and is ideal for picnics on riverbanks with a proper basket and naice ham. My hair is suitable only for bare knuckle fighting. I like a pixie cut myself and you would suit anything it but it lovely how it is.

TheMoistWorldOfSeptimusQuench · 23/02/2012 20:59

Blush at all these compliments. You're all so nice.

I like the idea of a pixie cut, but I think my head is disproportinately small compared to the rest of my body so I'm not sure it would suit.

But given what nice things you're all saying, I appear to be a little bit dysmorphic so what do I know...

at bare-knuckle fighting

I bet that's not true
