Eek!

I hate going to the hairdresser, I really do. For the last few years I've got round this by doing the good old MN haircut, with varying degrees of success. In between haircuts, I've tended to straighten my hair so it looks vaguely presentable.

Now, two things have happened:

  • The GHDs have died
  • So I tried to cut my hair and totally ballsed it up.

And furthermore, I seem to suddenly have curly hair.
So, I've booked myself into a proper hairdresser on Saturday, and am now very, very nervous indeed. And I haven't got a clue what I want anyway.

So what do I ask for (other than a paper bag to cover my head breathe into)?

(BTW, it's not the pic on the front, the pics are on the next page of profile. And are really awful and will go pfft very soon)

Its true all right

Its sort of sue perkins but without the impressive height, figure and intellect needed to carry it off. It starts off fine but is hampered by my refusal to get it attended to the requisite 4-6 weeks.

I like that 2nd link, v. glam. You can still go on the riverbank picnics but will effortlessly be able to transform into someone who goes to nightclubs (1920s ones, not the modern ones), probably with someone who is much more dashing and unsuitable than the chap who was on the picnic.

QuietOhSoQuiet · 23/02/2012 21:30

erm excuse me septimus I am sure others have already said it but can we swap hair if this is you on a bad hair day Confused

It looks lovely and suits your face,if I was you I would just have a tidy up and use some curly hair products

TheMoistWorldOfSeptimusQuench · 23/02/2012 22:17

Improperly, I adore SuperKins and if you have hair like hers, you're halfway there. Funnily enough, <a class="break-all" href="http://www.google.co.uk/imgres?hl=en&rlz=1I7GUEA_en-GB&biw=1280&bih=807&tbm=isch&tbnid=f6X8XfkGhp_9YM:&imgrefurl=www.criaimages.com/detail.aspx%3Fimg%3D0000300655&docid=whWeaHzVhC6lhM&imgurl=www.criaimages.com/preview/0000300000/0000300655.jpg&w=297&h=600&ei=X7pGT5LoMs2n8QP_8ommDg&zoom=1&iact=rc&dur=331&sig=110848175932412194897&page=1&tbnh=147&tbnw=73&start=0&ndsp=32&ved=1t:429,r:11,s:0&tx=45&ty=90" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">my great x 4 grandfather was the barefist prize fighting champion of England in 1821 Do you look like him? Lady, your hair is lovely. Retro-chic and very cool. I wouldn't change a thing Smile.

LesserOfTwoWeevils · 23/02/2012 22:54

You can encourage the waviness by using the Curly Girls method?check out www.naturallycurly.com for lots of info.

Is that really a bad hair day for you? Your hair must look beautiful on a good day. It's lovely! I think we all just hanker for what we don't have. I am poker straight and have curl envy. Yet, my curly friends seem to straighten their hair whenever possible.

(Just realised that is no help whatsoever.)

swanker · 23/02/2012 23:08

Sorry- I never would!

Solo · 23/02/2012 23:15

My friend took her GHD's to a local small electrical shop and they were repaired and back in her mitts in a couple of days for £15. Worth a try.

ImproperlyAcquainted · 23/02/2012 23:19

Septimus, its like looking in a mirror! Same broad shoulders, same sideburns, same manly stance. I have better pecs though, and I never wear mum boots with my knickerbockers. I love his belt, must get myself one of those.

TheMoistWorldOfSeptimusQuench · 23/02/2012 23:55

Weevils I wondered about the curly girl method (sort of use it on DD), in a kind of resigned maybe-I-should-make-the-most-of-the-curl-thing kind of way, but I'm naturally quite greasy and not sure it would work? Must read the link properly.

Improperly I am in awe of your sartorial panache. Given we're on S&B, I'd love to know what style of handbag you would team with those britches?

OP posts:
ImproperlyAcquainted · 24/02/2012 10:47

To move away from the pugilist look you could team it with this . Everyone loves a sailor.

My bag of choice is a kettlebell I hollowed out with my fingernail.

AgathaFusty · 24/02/2012 11:07

Your hair looks lovely. A few layers might help? Also, I second the suggestions of a bob - probably a blunt cut one but with a few layers.

nellie02 · 24/02/2012 12:52

Your hair is amazing! A bit of natural curl rocks!

Please don't cut it into a bob though as it'll go proper unmanageable curly. I speak from (terrible) experience.

TheMoistWorldOfSeptimusQuench · 24/02/2012 22:35

Improperly, I am slack jawed at those bags. You are truly a trailblazer.

And thank you again to everyone for your comments and ideas, I'm inspired, and am even slightly looking forward to being shorn to within an inch of my life beautifully coiffed.

ImproperlyAcquainted · 25/02/2012 08:30

Good Luck

I need to see pics when you get back

TheMoistWorldOfSeptimusQuench · 25/02/2012 10:21
