Hello all

that old thread is hilarious, though has reminded me of the spirit of W&A!

Had a lovely day yesterday, topped off with an evening in the pub I worked in when I was 18, drinking pints and playing pool with DH. Felt free for a couple of hours!

Feeling v chic today in black TS jamies, black fine knit polo, new red mcQ scarf (worn Wendy bunny-ears style), OTKs and the piece de resistance; the gilet! Am carrying a lovely black leather BR shopper I bought half price in Bath when I just had to break out of DH's family Xmas!

yy to bitchy thoughts, I do it all the time! I often wonder if people even look in the mirror!

Will catch up later properly, am at postal depot. Sorry for me me me!

OllieinOrange · 20/12/2011 12:25

Fritzi I am dying for some snow over here! Doesn't feel half as Christmassy as it did last year! What did you get the teacher's for presents in the end? Wrist warmers?
NJC i have similar hair to you and need a new hairdryer. Have always found ones with a long nozzle hard to handle, but may give your one a go. Thanks.

Following on from my new approach to presents, just brought the most lovely chunky cream cableknit scarf - its huge, snuggly - and quite exxy!! Had it wrapped in the shop and now joins the stack of glass jars and a blue snood thing for me to open on Xmas Day (when I will then act all surprised as if DH has brought them himself, lets see how long it takes him to figure out my plan?)

carciofi · 20/12/2011 12:38

Bonjour mes petites!

I still haven't bought the Parlux hairdryer, the hairdresser never got back to me. I'm going to get the travel version. My neighbour is a beauty writer for Red magazine and she rates it. Not sure if it is life changing though. Wink I tell you what is though, Kerastase products! I never used expensive hair products before and I think they have really helped.

Happy birthday, Portia! Great present from your DH.

Bloss, I bought those boots, very comfy and lovely in burgundy. Menu sounds delish. We are having roast beef, not keen on turkey.

Got to go collect DD1, I was mean and put her in the holiday club at her school. She loves it though.

wideawakenurse · 20/12/2011 13:08

Well, something spooky has just happened.

Delivery man at the door. Gave me a parcel with no name, but addressed to our house. I assumed it was a late present for DC from someone. Opened it up, to find a Parlux hairdryer! Apparently, its a birthday present for me from DH, and is proof that sometimes he listens to me wittering on. Grin Very excited to use it later, will report back.

Your outfits sounds lovely Amber. I was going to ask you what colour scarf you got.

NY not long now. How long have you got off work?

Bloss that turkey breast recipe looks delicious. Jamie Oliver did a fantastic looking turkey wellington using a breast the other night.

Off to finish the last few bits of wrapping.

blue2711 · 20/12/2011 13:13

amber that outfit sounds awesome! If I saw you out and about dressed like that I'd have to stop and congratulate you!

I too have very fine hair and am looking for a new hairdryer as mine is making a funny noise. Was thinking about a parlux so any reviews would be useful. Which kerastase products do you particularly rate carciofi?

Wearing dark grey Zara sequinned jumper today with black jeggings and black leather knee boots: cosy and festive! Bright pink leather gloves from jigsaw to add a bit of colour here

Wow Anniemac what a lovely thing to do. Did they actually send it in the post?

Going well here, still only my sister here. Went to Somerset House today ice skating today (I watched, grew up near a beach. No chance!). And Tom's Kitchen, very nice. Going to make dinner now to have with some red wine later. The Christmas indulgences have already started.

I need to read and catch up.

OllieinOrange · 20/12/2011 14:59

Annie that story has made my day - just lovely - and well deserved I might add! Enjoy it.

carciofi · 20/12/2011 15:09

Wan, Annie, that's so thoughtful.

Wan, are you doing anything nice on your birthday? Did you ever say anything to your mother about it?

Blue, the hairdresser recommended Kérastase Resistance Bain Age Recharge shampoo, Bain Satin conditioner and Nutritive Nectar Thermique to protect before styling. She also told me to use L'Oreal Mythic Oil rather than Moroccan Oil. It's cheaper to buy Kérastase online rather than from a salon. I have fine, easily damaged hair.

carciofi · 20/12/2011 15:09

Blue, lovely gloves.

pickledsiblings · 20/12/2011 16:47

Oh Annie, how lovely Smile.

Amber, Envyious of your scarf, your whole outfit actually.

Marsha, sounds like you are having a lovely time with your family. We've decided to stay at home for Christmas and so are off to London for a quick splurge tomorrow - Ice skating at Somerset House (there's free storytelling tomorrow), Dim Sim at Ping Pong and 'The Magical Night' at the Linbury, all topped off with a visit to Hamleys so that the Dcs can buy their Secret Santa pressies for each other Grin.

Hope you are all enjoying the wind down to the hols.

Fritzi, I can't believe you have snow just before you jet off to sunny climes.

Annie, great that DH has been offered some work - 'tis a step in the right direction. You've done so well at your job, I'm sure he's very proud of you.

MarshaBrady · 20/12/2011 16:58

Well done Anniemac! Really good news on both accounts. And how sweet it was hand delivered. (We used to do a hand delivered postmarks ... from me, town, city, world, universe). I bet you will both be on a roll now.

Pickled nearly a hat trick! Snap on the skating, and then we are seeing Magical Night at the Linbury next week. Good stuff Smile

FritziGreenEyes · 20/12/2011 17:04

annie Such a lovely surprise for you! So great to secure a job for your DH just before Christmas. Think a large glass of wine is in order to celebrate tonight!

marsha Forgot to say how happy I am for you that DS did so well in his school assessment!

wan I have a Parlux and it is great! Can also second carciofi's recommendation of Kerastase products.

MarshaBrady · 20/12/2011 17:18

Thanks Fritzi Smile. I meant to say that your Harvey Nichols SS was lovely!

blossoming · 20/12/2011 17:33

Well I have partly survived the day. But boy have I eaten. Have I mentioned how much I dislike Christmas?! And it is only the 20th. I did write and send Christmas cards this morning though.
Nice to be off work. The Whistles top in the larger size arrived and is as I wanted, ie loose enough and long enough to wear with jeans/agnes.
I think a city is lovely in the run up to Christmas. I do envy those of you in London with all the atmosphere and build up. It must be great to have your family around marsha.
What a lovely thoughtful family you have annie. Hopefully this will be the start of something for your Dh.
I have friends coming to stay New Year's Eve. Thinking of making rib of beef with dauphinoise potatoes. Shall we lay bets on how much weight we'll put on before January 3rd?!

AmberNectarine · 20/12/2011 18:41

Ladies of London, I implore you - go to Harvey Nicks, for there be bargains!

I got a lovely khaki Vince t-shirt and a pair of navy blue Agnes for a total of £69! Very pleased. They are selling off all the SS11 stock at 70% off.

Also, J Brand lovers, I give you our next obsession the Maverick!

Annie I am very lucky, you're right! How utterly lovely of your DD, cannot wait until mine are old enough to have some initiative. She sounds fab!

Marsha glad you are having fun with your sister.

blue I would love to be congratulated on my outfit. Shame more women don't do that! You sound like you are having a very stylish 3rd trimester, a feat to be applauded!

blossoming · 20/12/2011 19:08

Loved the Jigsaw gloves, and bought these fab cheapo alternative for my mum from the dcs on Saturday. Tried them on, with Roxy. Looked good!

MarshaBrady · 20/12/2011 19:20

Great tip re Harvey Nics Amber. Shame about compliments from other women. The best one good thing about ds1's school is we all notice and compliment eachother's outfits. There are some very good ones.

Nice gloves Bloss.

(I meant to say thanks to everyone for lovely comments about ds1.)

FritziGreenEyes · 20/12/2011 19:39

amber Great shopping! Do you often shop at Harvey Nichols? Xmas Grin

Zembo · 20/12/2011 19:46

Back from a lovely long weekend at my mum's and had a quick skim to catch up. I'm enjoying reading about your various xmas build ups Smile.

I've had a Parlux hairdryer for a couple of year, It's good but I'm not great at blowdrying. Far more life changing for me is the Kerastase Elixir Ultime, my all time favourite hair product I think. Carciofi a travel parlux sounds good.

Wish I lived near a HN Amber

Blue I live on the outskirts of Nottingham although a possible relocation to Glasgow is on the cards.

Annie your DD and DH are such sweethearts.

WAN did you find a slouchy stripy jumper like the one you linked to? I've been after something similar for a while.
