I think a lot of people find they need to mix the two shade, my orange lady told me that's what she does.

ggirl · 15/10/2011 19:41

jux-yes I did today but Ithink you'd get the same sample ifyou were a non mumsnetter customer tbh

Jux · 15/10/2011 21:11

I was wondering because I went in to my local counter and asked about it and mentioned MN, and the Orange Lady said that it was only a free consultation so I came away empty handed. I thought I'd check it out. (She knows she sold me the starter kit a few weeks ago too - recognised me!).

OhThisIsJustGrape · 15/10/2011 21:23

That seems odd, I went to the BE counter in Debenhams last week to see what colours the bisque came in. We decided that I'd be better off changing my foundation shade and the orange lady offered me a free sample. My point being that they do have them to just give away Confused

Does anyone else really look forward to putting their face on each morning now or is it just me that needs to get out more? Grin

FoofFighters · 15/10/2011 21:30

I tried the lightest matte shade today and that's the best one for me and my oilslick. Got made up by a lovely orange man (who actually was not that orange) and got my MN free gift, in a nice reusable shopping bag. Yay!

shoeprincess2 · 16/10/2011 10:41

Yes, i really look forward to putting on my face. Plus, now that the mornings are darker, i know that I'm no longer going to be leaving the house with a horrific tidemark round my jawline uneven makeup application.

fannybanjo · 16/10/2011 10:57

DH just been to shop and has bought the Sunday Express, after beating him about the head with it, I mooched through the supplement and it's got an article about mineral makeup. Wonder where they got the inspiration for that from....? HmmGrin

Jux · 16/10/2011 15:30

And after saying that, she then said that she had no samples anyway.

ggirl · 16/10/2011 16:03

Have converted dd to mineral makeup and she's pocketed my Avon Ivory one.
Weirdly at the BE counter the orange lady matched us up and dd was told she was a light and I am a medium.
Now clearly dd has darker more olive toned skin than me Hmm

valiumredhead · 16/10/2011 16:06

BE lady got my colour wrong too gg - I am sure I am medium beige.

valiumredhead · 16/10/2011 16:07

Light and Fairly light are way too fair for me.

ggirl · 16/10/2011 16:17

I'm pretty sure I am light, may go to another BE conter and see what different OL says.

ggirl · 16/10/2011 16:18

what shade did they say you were Valium

hester · 16/10/2011 21:53

I am back with BE Fairly Light - think I do prefer it to LL Blondie, though am happy with both. But LL Blondie concealer is a revelation - I put it on first, under BE, and it really conceals shadows and lines well.

FoofFrighteners · 16/10/2011 22:00

Ooh Hester I might try the LL one. I don't really like bisque, it didn't cover my under-eye suitcases bags.

I just purchased a Clarins kabuki brush on eBay, in anticipation of buying a matte powder tomorrow [hgrin]

JodieHarsh · 17/10/2011 09:24

Morning sheeples!

I am def. going to try the LL concealer - I can't seem to get on with bisque, which is odd because I know it suits lots. TBH I think putting the foundation on with the flat brush is better (which suggests I don't actually need to spend further monies on LL concealer but, you know ... Grin)

NOW THEN

I think I am going to have to give up this whole waterproof mazzy lark.

I have done as instructed by this thread's experts, and bought some cream make-up remover (an Olay 'fight the signs of turning into a decrepit old hag' one), and some muslin cloths. Massaged into face and eyes, pressed hot cloth onto fizzog, wiped away every trace of makeup. Brilliant.

However. It does not matter how I do it, how carefully I rub, and how often I splash my face with water after, my eyes weep and blur and sting like buggery and I wake up the next morning with bloodshot eyes and eyelashes crusted together. This has always happened whatever method of eye makeup remover I use, whether Simple stuff, pads, baby oil, whatever.

I think I'll just have to return to my normal mascara and normal method of removal (just a sensitive-skin facial wash). Am a convert to muslin cloths though - they seem to exfoliate slightly and deep-clean without making my poor skin all cross.

Meanwhile has anyone here been to Andalucia?! If so please to answer my poor lonely thread FANKS!

Ooh Jodie you will love LL concealer, 'Tis fab and far better than the bisque.

No idea with regards to the eye make up remover, sounds like your poor eyes just can't cope with anything.

In other news, I had a very successful ebaying session yesterday and my paypal account is positively bursting with funds so am going to settle down nicely and order some LL eyeshadows and maybe a blusher and some new brushes too Grin

DH thinks I'm going to be ordering a new coat with the money but he can stuff that idea but maybe I can wait for that making my self look beautiful if a little cold is more important Grin

hester · 17/10/2011 10:18

Really glad you're converted to muslins, Jodie.

Do you need to wear waterproof mascara? I've never got on with it myself. Anything that needs (a) industrial strength cleanser, or (b) scrubbing, is very bad news in and for my eyes.

shoeprincess2 · 17/10/2011 10:58

Grape what colours are you going to buy? I need to buy the full size foundation and concealer from LL, but have been lusting after the eyeshadows and blushers as well. I'm thinking mystery, gunmetal and greyzie daze eyeshadows and cherry blossom blusher. Do you think they'll suit an insipid looking english rose complexion?

OhThisIsJustGrape · 17/10/2011 11:13

Shoe I cannot make my mind up about colours! I'm going to pick 3 as they come as a kit so better value. You've picked really nice colours, there is just so much choice and it us difficult without seeing them in real life.

I currently wear mostly a pale pinky colour with a darker purpley grey in my socket line but I'd also like some browns to use too. Don't think I'm going to bother with a blush for now, I'm using BE warmth and it looks great so thinking I don't need a blush too.

Definitely need an eyeshadow brush though. Talking of which, I washed my concealer brush yesterday with some baby shampoo and it's come up lovely. Nice and soft, was worried it would go too stiff as I laid it on it's side in the airing cupboard overnight but it's fine. Bit scared to wash the kabuki but sure it will be ok.

Right, back to browsing LL, I can see this taking up most of my day tbh... :)

shoeprincess2 · 17/10/2011 11:29

I was seduced by all the colours on display at the orange ladies' stand in Debenhams. However, a lot of the colours have bismuth in them, so no good for me. Plus, they are nearly £10 more than a LL one. This mineral makeup browsing is taking up a lot of time...

valiumredhead · 17/10/2011 12:26

gg Orange lady said I was Light/Fairly Light but I'm not, they're both too pale. I want to get a tester of medium beige but they never seem to do that one on line - I'll have to wait til I go to a Dept. store.

jodie have you tried No 7 waterproof mascara - it's in a navy tube? I stopped using Max Factor Maasterpiece it's so good, it comes off really easily with muslin method too. I have been wearing it for about 18 months now.

valiumredhead · 17/10/2011 12:27

gg sorry, that should be 'fairly light/fair'

PeriPathetic · 17/10/2011 12:54

skids into thread looking semi-gorgeous

FINALLY! My BE parcel arrived Grin

After an anxious week's wait it arrived on Saturday (!) morning... just before I had to head out for DD's birthday party.

But I made everyone wait while I tore open the packet and, thanks to these threads I didn't need to learn how to swirltapbuff, so was able to do my first application with no angst.

Well, ladies, I am seriously impressed! I had to endure 4 hours of 10 year olds doing karaoke Confused as well as being a nice host mum. And my face survived! which is more than can be said for my ears

Staying power is brilliant! It didn't shift or slide AT ALL! Thankfully the venue was dark as my application wasn't too good - need practise.

Had another play yesterday with Warmth and so on. LIKE! I still need to practise as I have a broken veined patch that's hard to cover. And I did discover a new BIG wrinkle that I didn't have / notice before. Perhaps the powder enhanced it?

Only drawback is... I'm new here so everyone is meeting me for the first time. So I won't get any compliments and when they see me au naturel, they will be horrified. Ah well.

PogueMahone · 17/10/2011 19:50

I went to see the non-orange Orange Ladies on Sunday and got blank looks when I mentioned Mumsnet, cap in hand looking for a free sample. After a bit, one of them said, "Oh! Did Jodie Harsh send you?" I am enjoying the mental image of your opening post being read out at briefings all across the land, and all the Orange Ladies looking at each other saying "Did she just say spunked?"

This was in Jenners in Edinburgh, btw, which means that Jodie is Internationally Famous.

Name-dropping didn't get me any closer to the free-sample, but that's OK because I bought the starter kit, and boy am I gorgeous!
