I don't find the bisque is covering the dark circles under my eyes. Brilliant at hiding spots, but I still looked knackered. Any thoughts on what I'm doing wrong?

ggirl · 14/10/2011 13:34

hermoine-have you got tear troughs or just dark skin
tear troughs are almost impossible to cover up
I have them and would love to get them filled

OhThisIsJustGrape · 14/10/2011 14:16

Ah, you need LL Peepo. It's scarily yellow but works like magic under and around the eyes. I overdid it a little this morning and my eyes look like I've slept for 100 years, no darkness whatsoever and no definition either so will go a little lighter-handed with it tomorrow!

valiumredhead · 14/10/2011 14:17

YY to using Peepo! Yellow and scary looking but works a treat!

hermioneweasley · 14/10/2011 19:58

Thanks ladies, will try the yellow peepo. It's mainly just dark skin that the bisque isn't really covering.

Dillydollydaydream · 14/10/2011 22:09

Hey ladies
Just been looking at the primers. Bare minerals do the normal and brightening one. Has anyone tried the brightening version?

hester · 14/10/2011 22:23

OK, Avon. I looked at the website and would muchly like to try their minerals. Not because I need more [scrutinises overfilling box of BE and LL samples] but in the interests of scientific research, you understand.

But all the reviews say that the colours are much darker than they appear on the website, even Ivory and Nude. Given that Fairly Light and Blondie are slightly on the dark side for me, and that I'm yellow toned, is this just not going to work? This question is for you, valiumredhead.

Concealer: I find the best way to fantastic is to use the LL Blondie concealer UNDER BE Fairly Light.

hester · 14/10/2011 22:25

Oh, and here's the boasting moment:

This morning my dp was told by another mother at the schoolgate that I was the most glamorous mum there. This afternoon, another mother asked me what my secret is, and a third said to me, "You are looking HOT".

Not bad for a middle-aged lesbian, huh? Ladies, the BE is WORKING Grin

shoeprincess2 · 15/10/2011 09:27

I am now accumulating samples as if there is no tomorrow. I began as a huge LL fan, but got tempted this week by the BE sample offer. So, I stopped by the counter yesterday lunchtime, explained about my bismuth intolerance and the lovely BE lady gave me 3 luxury samples of the matte, in fairly light, light and medium beige. Will be having a little play today. Interestingly too, some of the eyeshadows have bismuth in them, some don't. So, if tempted to buy any colours, I will have to have a look at the ingredients online first. Celery is a fab colour and no bismuth in it. Looks like all the blushers do have bismuth in them though.

ggirl · 15/10/2011 09:50

Have been eyeing up the BE brushes on ebay , clearly some are fakes , anyone bought one from ebay and been pleased with it.
Want a BE kabuki one.

Off to JL today for free sample woo hoo

shoeprincess2 · 15/10/2011 10:41

I'm afraid the BE is not a patch on the LL powder. It just doesn't do it for me. I'll still probably try a BE eyeshadow, but will stick with my LL Barely Buff.

JodieHarsh · 15/10/2011 12:01

hurrah for Hester's moment of glory Grin

I am def. getting more compliments ce moment too. A scientist would ask if it is because we think we look better and consequently are being all confident and sessy. I say feck dat, I don't care how it bleeding works: I've not felt this pretty in an age...

I'm deffo going to give LL a shot when my BE runs out - but that mightn't be until about 2013 Hmm Grin

OhThisIsJustGrape · 15/10/2011 12:07

I agree, the LL wins hands down for me. I've said it before but my skin is hideous, badly scarred and lots of the scars are a deep red/purple colour.

Have just done my face with LL and it looks pretty flawless. I have never achieved anything even close to this with either liquid foundations or BE. My whole make up routine is quicker and I don't have to layer so much on so that's a bonus too :)

I do confess to using BE mineral veil though, I just prefer it to the LL finishing powders.

Off for my annual haircut and colour in a bit and so impressed with how my skin looks, I am going to be brave and have a restyle - one that actually doesn't cover my face. Ive hidden behind my long hair for over a decade now but, although I'm too scared still to do anything too drastic, I'm feeling confident that I can pull off a different look. Not brave enough to wear my hair up yet but maybe that will come too :)

Thank you Jodie for starting these threads, I can't believe what a difference 3 weeks has made to my confidence!

JodieHarsh · 15/10/2011 12:18

:) Grape I can't believe it too!

hurrah for a brilliant new haircut. Be sure to come back and TELL ALL. and it'll be nice to sit staring into the hairdresser's mirror without flinching from your reflection (or is it just me that used to do that?!)

'Ark at us being all giddy! Love it!

valiumredhead · 15/10/2011 14:49

hester The reviews on line for Avon tend to be American ( after many hours of research!) and slightly different colours from the UK ones. I think Nude would be your best bet if you want to try it. Ivory is too pink based for me. You can return Avon products if they aren't suitable - and I think they have started doing samples now, I seem to remember seeing samples in the last brochure.

JodieHarsh · 15/10/2011 14:53

I know - and I am not a giddy person, swear to goodness - I am a bluestocking with a strong Puritan streak. Not sure what's come over me Grin

In other news I ordered a Goth-type frock which I wanted to wear tomorrow night - 2 days of watching for the courier and it's too damn big. That's the first time I've been miffed to be too slim for a size 18 Hmm

Angry Jodie about your dress, have you got time to go shopping for something else?

I'm back from my haircut - I love it! Normally I return feeling pretty down about myself as I've been forced to sit in front of a mirror for 2 hours scrutinising my face and seeing just how ghastly I look. Not today my fellow followers! I looked radiant and have gone for a lovely choppy 'do' with a sweeping side fringe which also means a side parting so one side of my face is exposed (rather than hiding behind my curtains of hair) and am I feeling a bit self conscious? Not one bit coz I is looking fab :)

Just rushed into the bathroom to touch up my make up so when DH returns I am looking perfect, and guess what? No touch up needed, it looks as good as it did when I applied it this morning

shoeprincess2 · 15/10/2011 16:16

Grape I know what you mean about the hairdresser's- I've normally gone in feeling reasonable, but left feeling downright miserable due to the long scrutiny of my dowdy face in the mirror! I now can't wait to have my hair done. Glad you had a fab time and have an even fabber hairdo!

Jodie Thank you for starting this thread. Such a personal turnaround in such a short time. I now don't feel self conscious. Looking forward to experimenting with mineral eyeshadows and blushers...

GGirl how was the rest of your makeup?

brassick · 15/10/2011 16:29

Thanks to all who advised me earlier.

I have been trying different things: using more, buffing for longer, trying light as opposed to fairly light, putting Mineral Veil on first.

Conclusion is that light is a bit too dark for me - too much of the orange lady about me when I wear that.

Wearing fairly light today and dd2 looked at me and said "it's weird how your face is a different colour to the rest of you, but you don't have a line" Hmm. Not sure how to take that. She said it didn't look bad, but I don't know.

When I felt I looked orange yesterday, someone at work asked if I was wearing it (they bought it for me for my birthday) and said I looked nice...so I just don't know. It also looks different in different lights.

Definitely stays on longer than liquid foundation though, so I am happy with that aspect of it.

ggirl · 15/10/2011 16:50

shoe-have tried the other two brands but think the BE matte suits me best

went to JL today and pounced on the orange lady at the BE counter , mentioned mumsnet and she siad she's had loads of people yesterday.

Interestingly she said I should wear medium but alas they didn't have any samples of that shade , so she gave me medium beige and fairly light..the brush is teeny so not worth getting excited about.

Dd has tried the BE now and is quite impressed so far.

ggirl · 15/10/2011 16:51

anyone else find the BE shade names really confusing , wish they'd just number them from light to dark.

Dillydollydaydream · 15/10/2011 17:06

I find I have to use 1/2 of fairly light and 1/2 of light. Light is too dark but would prob be ok in the summer. Fairly light Is a bit too pale.
Maybe I'll have to get some LL testers too to see if one of those is a closer match.

PinotScreechio · 15/10/2011 17:47

yes ggirl the names are stupid.

Jux · 15/10/2011 18:47

Anyone been to a BE counter and mentioned MN and got a free sample yet?
