Pinot thanks, and have you used it with mineral make up? I think most primers are silicone based, that's how they work. I don't mind a bit of silicone Grin

IME Avon ones are a bit pink based, Ivory is definitely pinker than Nude imo. But the beauty of Avon is you can return them and I think they do samples as well, but if you get it on special offer it can be a fiver, so not a huge disaster if it's wrong.

Bit disappointed to hear that the LL matte shadow has sparkles as I was interested in getting one to try. I have had my eyes made up by orange BE lady and I am FAR too old to have sparkly bits falling all over my cheeks!

valiumredhead · 14/10/2011 10:28

Use a bit more janin and see what happens - you can always take it off and you will KNOW if it's too much. Welcome to the thread :)

Where is Jodie - she's very quiet!

whojimmyflip · 14/10/2011 10:34

My experience of LL eyeshadows is that yes they say matte but some have a sort of sheen ( as opposed to lumps of glitter) so it won't actually fall on to your face like say a Barry M eyeshadow!

I am on the fence about sheeny eyeshadows- sometimes I think they are actually more flattering than very flat matte ones.

Not all primers are silicon based as the silicon gives something a certain feel but not the performance. It is not a bad ingredient as such but certainly not a miracle and I would be reluctant to use it under mineral makeup as I would imagine it might go all peely

valiumredhead · 14/10/2011 10:42

The BE primer is silicone and that works ok but runny and not as thick as the L'Oreal one - Ooooooooo I can't decide! Grin

ggirl · 14/10/2011 10:44

Yes the LL eyeshadow is still nice despite the few sparkles
and I detest frosty stuff on my crepey lids
will still use this though and may order a peachy one

even the matte blush has a few sparkles

ggirl · 14/10/2011 10:45

l'oreal primer gives me spots

PinotScreechio · 14/10/2011 10:46

Val I haven't used it under minerals actually - fair point. I'm so careful to not get cake-face, I'm doing veil/foundation/foundation/warmth/veil.

I am turning into a right tart :o :o

I'm with whojimmy - I like a sheen in eyeshadow. It 'lifts' the eye and makes you look more awake. My Mum is matte-central and nooooooo thanks.

janinlondon - I use a scattering in the lid pot (twice). Like the chocolate you put on the top of a cappucino

ggirl · 14/10/2011 10:47

I like the maybelline primer better than the l'oreal here

PinotScreechio · 14/10/2011 10:47

yes frosty isn't good on anyone. Barbara Cartland chic Hmm

valiumredhead · 14/10/2011 11:06

Thanks gg will look at that one too - the reviews are good and it can be used under mineral.

valiumredhead · 14/10/2011 11:07

I knew someone who worked for BC - she was a real cow, frightful woman by all accounts!

ggirl · 14/10/2011 12:17

Ok extreme saddo alert , have just done half face avon other half LL, avon won.
LL was a tad cakier but there really wasn't much in it.

BUT then I washed face (getting chafed from all the buffing etc) and reapplied BE matte. It wins hands down for me!!

So will be looking to get me some of that.

And top tip..don't poke a kabuki brush in yer eye......hurts like buggery.

My favourite brush out of avon kabuki, Une kabuki and BE is def the BE , all the others were scratchy.

valiumredhead · 14/10/2011 12:29

I have done that pokey eye thing too gg Grin

I have just dug out my Avon primer, I stopped using it as I hated the smell so I just used a tint amount on my cheeks and it's fine! Got LL on and def looks better with a primer underneath.

OhThisIsJustGrape · 14/10/2011 12:34

I've used the L'oreal primer, it's good as it's thick and seems to fill in all the lines/craters etc. But it's a funny texture and, although I've only tried it under liquid foundation, I can well imagine it would pil with all the buffing needed for minerals. It also caused me to break out every time I used it.

I use the BE primer and it's fine as long as I don't use too much, make sure I rub it in completely and leave 10 mins or so before applying the foundation.

I was undecided yesterday about whether I liked the LL finishing powder. I used BE veil today and I do indeed much prefer it. The LL was just too white and kind of settled around my nose. I also tried applying the veil before foundation and that seems to have worked well.

Still loving LL, but will stick to BE for the veil part :)

fannybanjo · 14/10/2011 12:36

ggirl do you like the Avon though? I too have that primer and love it, I aim (when my skin back to normal) to try the BE matt with the primer underneath however been ill all week and my skin is really out of sorts, so will wait until it feels better before trying anything new.

ggirl · 14/10/2011 12:37

I am ssuming jodie is actually working today
she's missing my experiments ...feeling neglected by the mineral mama

fannybanjo · 14/10/2011 12:37

however the bisque is a miracle worker on spots, just paint over them! Brilliant!

ggirl · 14/10/2011 12:38

yes liked the avon but prefer the finish of the BE , looked more natural on me

will def give it another go if dd doesn't steal it this weekend , she's coming home for the weekend

ggirl · 14/10/2011 12:40

i got the summer bisque in my little sample selection
it is good
use it on my large broken vein, red veins on nose and eyelids

OhThisIsJustGrape · 14/10/2011 12:49

I'm missing Jodie too :( Maybe she's buffed herself away? Come back to your devotees sheep Grin

JodieHarsh · 14/10/2011 12:54

HELLO HELLO HELLO

I am on a MENTAL deadline so just pop in now and then .... I am bloody loving it that ggirl has done a side-by-side comparison Grin

Still in love with BE. Had to have a photo done t'other day midway through a day at the office. Was I bovvered? Was I 'eckaslike. The only thing is that I didn't realise I had a spot on my neck, which is very visible, unlike the other flaws duly disguised with bisque.

I have to say though, I do like the bisque but TBH I don't see that it gives any better coverage than just using the foundation on a flat brush...

Still all over pinterest Hmm - it's making me disgustingly acquisitive and is going to BANKRUPT me I tells yer

Jodie just snogged me

ggirl · 14/10/2011 13:14

yup did the half face thingy thinking of you all as I was doing it
off to BE counter in JL tomorrow for my sample I have a sneaky feeling I may need a shade darker than light
am going to stop obsessively looking at my face though, nearly crashed the car yesterday admiring myself....arf

OhThisIsJustGrape · 14/10/2011 13:17

Haha ggirl I have perfected the art of adjusting the interior mirror to admire my visage whilst veering madly across the road driving safely Grin
