Bare Escentuals: THE DEVIL'S OWN WORK

I must post about this. I have just spunked nearly ninety quid on some Bare Escentuals starter kit things.

I arrived at the counter in Stratford Westfield with a hideous bright red, sore, scarred, spotty, sweaty face, and some WITCH managed to take a decade off me with POWDER. Just powder! I mean - WT actual F?! A tube ride and a 20 minute walk home and it's still there. SURELY that's not right. I've used all sorts of super-max coverage matte stuff and it didn't cover ANYTHING like this well. O and I have the glowing rosy cheeks of a teen Shock

I promise I've not been giver a tenner to post this stuff. It's just I've spent so much I feel slightly sick. Does anyone else use this stuff? it's not going to last is it. i'm an idiot. What have I done

I must say £50 sounds very reasonable, if you get a shit load of powders and brushes.

So - do you get foundation, concealer, veil shit and warmth shit and brushes all in one pack for fifty quid?

SeymoreButts · 27/09/2011 14:02

Uhoh, I'm quite fair... it should be ok, if not I can save it for hallowe'en.

I bought it from this ebay lady. She sells the matt one! It should be here tomorrow, I've cleared my diary so I can snatch it straight from the posty's clammy hands....

JodieHarsh · 27/09/2011 14:19

GetOrf I think if you tend towards dryness it mayn't be for you - I turned to it because of oil-slick-face.

That being said I reckon a BE lady would tell you it's for everyone and mention primer or somesuch

It IS a bit faffy. I think it's worth it for me for work, meetings of various sorts, hook-ups, events, whatnot, butI wouldn't bother to swirl and tap, swirl and tap just to go to Sainsbo's.

For £43 I got 2 pots of foundation, mineral veil, warmth stuff, huge powder brush, slightly less huge powder brush, and concealer brush.

And if you go to that website someone mentioned upthread, I forget its name and my boss is staring at me so i won't check, you get free concealer too and it's only 40 quid. Which is insane value when you add it all up...

I think I will go into House of Frase and let them try and wow me.

I have just run out of both my foundations so need some sharpish - I am unwell at the moment so cannot be arsed to shop, so will go at the weekend.

I usually love By Terry but it only lasts a little while and is so so expensive.

JodieHarsh · 27/09/2011 14:32

Oooo lemme know how it goes

I am being so stupidly girlish it's untrue. I might abandon my fierce ambitions and go and be an orange lady. I've got a fucking good line in innocuous banter, too....

I've got the Matt one. It's good. I think I prefer it to the normal one. I also like Lily Lolo ones because they're more matt. Go for a lighter shade though. For some reason the matt one comes out a bit darker/orangy. I'm the palest shade they do in the matt version (Fair I think).

YouDoTheMath · 27/09/2011 15:08

Whilst we're still ranting on about makeup can I recommend Pixiwoo's channel on YT - they are awesome and have SO many inspirational ideas.

(And no, I ain't neiver of 'em. Although I'm quite tempted to do one of their makeup courses... or would be if I had a grand to spare...)

valiumredhead · 27/09/2011 15:28

I wanted to try the Lily Lolo ones but couldn't work out what color I would be so gave up!

Damn that e bay woman doesn't do 'fair'! Sad

RamblingRosa · 27/09/2011 15:44

What colour are you in BE valiumredhead?

Jux · 27/09/2011 16:10

I am 53 by the way. Maybe I'm too old? (Wouldn't mind looking 43 though!Wink)

valiumredhead · 27/09/2011 16:11

I am 'Fair' Rambling

VivaLeBeaver · 27/09/2011 17:24

Which shops stock it in the flesh? Its not in Boots or Debenhams here - is it in larger stores. If I went to Nottingham/Sheffield/York would I find it?

RamblingRosa · 28/09/2011 08:37

Is Fair the palest one? If so I reckon either Blondie or China Doll. They do one called Porcelain but it's proper ghostly, chalky white IME.

RamblingRosa · 28/09/2011 08:39

There's bound to be a stand alone shop or a concession in a big department store in one of those cities vivalebeaver. They've got a store finder thing here

valiumredhead · 28/09/2011 09:01

Fairly Light is the lightest colour in BE, which is too light for me.

Thanks Rosa will have a look :)

JodieHarsh · 28/09/2011 09:07

Still not over my BE joy Grin

Arrived at a rehearsal last night after a long day at work and a 40 minute walk, and was told how very well I looked

Actually it's getting a bit annoying since my protestations that I'm so bloody weary I'd welcome being gently run over so as to have a nice long rest in hospital are falling on deaf ears.

Melted! HAS IT COME YET LUV?!

OP posts:
valiumredhead · 28/09/2011 09:17

It still makes me chuckle when I take off my make up at night jodie - I do half at a time and marvel at the difference! Grin

Dillydollydaydream · 28/09/2011 09:36

Oooh I think I want some. I love new make up!
How good is the concealer though? And how is it for under eye dark circles? (not that I have those!)
Would I still need separate product fr concealing?

meltedchocolate · 28/09/2011 09:51

Post isn't till somewhere between twelve and two but I can't help getting my hopes up!

Noticed you said it may not be good for dry skin which I have, at first, before it gets greasy Confused I will have to get a shower now so I can put my moisturiser on in good time just in case it does arrive :o

JodieHarsh · 28/09/2011 09:54

Hello Dilly - welcome to our cult Grin

I don't have a separate concealer, which amazes me given I have literalyl not left the house with some at least in my bag for emergencies for about 10 years. You just use a separate kabuki brush (flat and compact) to apply the powder and by George, there go your spots Shock

Tbh I think if you had really bad undereye circles you might want something like Touche Eclat to touch up - you can put a fine extra layer of the foundation powder under the eyes, but too much build-up and it gets a bit heavy.

It's fine for me though 'cos I don't tend to get tooooo bad circles.

OP posts:
RamblingRosa · 28/09/2011 09:54

I think it's good for dry skin meltedchocolate. Especially if you're saying your skin is dry then oily. Sounds like cleanser/moisturiser/foundation are drying your skin out. If you go for a gentle cleanser and moisturiser and mineral foundation you should find your skin's less dry/flakey and it should keep oil at bay too.

JodieHarsh · 28/09/2011 09:58

Oooo Melted, top notch forward planning there...

Tell me: have you had it done by an orange lady? Will you know what to do

THERE MUST BE NO VISIBLE POWDER ON THE BRUSH

Oh dear God. What if you're disappointed? I would actually cry...

OP posts:
whojimmyflip · 28/09/2011 09:58

Get orf from what I remember you know your stuff re make up. Forget the BE counter makeup in dept stores- you don't need it. Look on the lily lolo website.

If you have dry skin you need to use mineral make up very sparingly but it is still suitable

valiumredhead · 28/09/2011 10:05

My skin is dry and it's fine for me!
