Bare Escentuals: THE DEVIL'S OWN WORK

1028 replies

JodieHarsh · 25/09/2011 17:16

I must post about this. I have just spunked nearly ninety quid on some Bare Escentuals starter kit things.

I arrived at the counter in Stratford Westfield with a hideous bright red, sore, scarred, spotty, sweaty face, and some WITCH managed to take a decade off me with POWDER. Just powder! I mean - WT actual F?! A tube ride and a 20 minute walk home and it's still there. SURELY that's not right. I've used all sorts of super-max coverage matte stuff and it didn't cover ANYTHING like this well. O and I have the glowing rosy cheeks of a teen Shock

I promise I've not been giver a tenner to post this stuff. It's just I've spent so much I feel slightly sick. Does anyone else use this stuff? it's not going to last is it. i'm an idiot. What have I done

oo oo can I have the mazzy?? PLEASE!!

meltedchocolate · 05/10/2011 22:00

:( poor cyb. BUT Jodie did start by simply gloating and sharing... still, I feel your pain :(

fannybanjo · 05/10/2011 22:07

cyb I too started one asking about BE in August and Valium steered me towards Avon (which I love!) so I feel your pain! Maybe if I start a gloating Avon thread they'll errr... send me a catalogue...?

Sarayu · 05/10/2011 22:29

SQUEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEL so so so exciting. I WOULD LOVE YOUR WARMTH JODIE!

T'was me that mentioned the mascara but please pass onto someone else.

Real test of BE today. Finally home after a hectic afternoon. It has not moved one inch! My face still looks flawless. I am truly amazed. My poor husband, all I keep saying is 'does it still look good!?'

hester · 05/10/2011 22:47

I've just ordered the primer Blush. This thread is VERY bad for my bank balance.

Sarayu · 05/10/2011 22:47

hester have you tried the lip bits. They are lush

scotlass · 05/10/2011 23:03

wow

Got done at Boots on Monday and loved this stuff

Got loads of comments after about how nice my skin looked, even from DD age 12 who hardly ever compliments her ancient mum Grin

Hinting to DH for my birthday, only a few weeks to go hurrah!

I loved the mascara and lip gloss too

You baaaaad people - I was all set to finally get a babyliss big hair, guess that's put off till xmas now

hester · 05/10/2011 23:21

I'm not listening to you, Sarayu you behorned fiend [sticks fingers in her ears and sings loudly]

Sarayu · 05/10/2011 23:27

Grin hester you are safe till morning. I'm off to bed. Refusing to wash my lovely BE face. Hurray up delivery x

MinnieBar · 06/10/2011 07:18

I'm only half-way through reading this epic thread but:

Baaaaa!! Another sheep joins the cult fold. I sat for twenty-five minutes on Tuesday waiting for the actually-not-orange lady to 'do' me while she conned made-under and convinced a customer into spending £165. I swear though that when I said I'd heard about this on the internet the Other Woman gave me the evils Hmm.

I am lying here feeding DD2 wondering if I've got time to swirltapbuff before the school run (prob not, esp as I've just remembered I forgot to do the lunches aaaargh). I'm v impressed, but I still have dark shadows under my eyes - I'm loathe to spend more, does anyone use their usual under-eye stuff first with good results??

MadamTwoSwords · 06/10/2011 09:03

MinnieBar I have used the bisque (thanks to the lovely hester today for the first time and it has worked well on my 18 month old DD induced black shadows. I also have the first few fault lines appearing and it has diminshed those as well.

It is def worth a try, you can get a small pot of bisque in the £15 set from Lookfantastic. It's almost rude not to........ Grin

JodieHarsh · 06/10/2011 09:13

Morning sheep beauties!

Is it ridiculous that I feel quite sentimentally happy about lots of people feeling better about their faces?! Blush But then I did just cry at watching the Great British Bake Off final on iPlayer, so.....

I have a question please! The mazzy that came in my kit is waterproof. I am really thrilled with it - it's far and away the best one I've ever used, and I reckon because it's waterproof and BE it stands a good chance of actually bloody staying put as opposed to ending up darkening my shadows until I look like a dug-up corpse. HOWEVER the main reason I never wear waterproof mascara is that I can't bloody get the stuff off without getting things in my eyes and ending up all sore and pissed off.

I like using foamy wash-off type cleansers and obviously that doesn't shift it. last night there was a tearful disaster with a tub of E45 and three yards of bog roll. Can someone recommend a really, really good, and quite cheap, eye makeup remover that will get it all off and not get in my eyes, and not drag at the skin so I end up looking all baggy and 105? THANKS! :)

OK ladies, i have dusted my starter kit off- help me LOVE this.!"

My problem was that it didnt stay put, i like the finish.

Also i need advice on a neutral eye colour and which blush to pick?

I can vouch for the skin revver upper LOVE LOVE it x

OhThisIsJustGrape · 06/10/2011 09:23

I use eye make up remover pads from Superdrug, Jodie. They are like the nail varnish remover pads and work really well on my industrial-strength waterproof mascara. The product can't get into your eye like a lotion would, they're not oily so it doesn't just slide off down your face either.

They were half price in there last week so were about £1.30ish :)

Pinot · 06/10/2011 09:26

Simple eyemakeup remover is brill at dissolving waterproof mazzy. Or LaBiFacil but that's ££

morning all sheep baaaaaaaaaa

valiumredhead · 06/10/2011 09:26

Jodie Any cream cleanser with a muslin cloth will get off waterproof mascara - do NOT use bog roll you big naner! Grin Sort of DIY Liz Earle Wink

Update on BBBH ( off topic!)

Right, washed hair and dried it with hair drier first then had a go with new gadget - I need my hair to be completely dry or it gets all tangled - ouch! When I used it yesterday I used it on 3 day hair so had natural oils grease slick and it seemed to work better.

So I will be keeping it BUT using it as a 'finisher' after I wash and dry as usual like you would straightening irons - definitely doesn't work instead of normal brush and drier imo. I think it'll be really good on inbetween washes days when I wake up with bedhead!

Pinot · 06/10/2011 09:27

Ooh err weirdness. I typed Lancome BiFacil.

Sarayu · 06/10/2011 09:29

Baaaaaa Good Morning

Jodie Boots do a hot cloth polish, very similar to Liz Earle but MUCH cheaper. You get a massive bottle that lasts for ages. That removes pretty much everything for me. Failing that, babywipes but I do feel like they drag on my face.

rus Did you finish it off with the mineral veil powder? As for eyes/blush, can you get yourself to a counter? The orange lady tried a peach blusher on me, something I never would have picked.. but actually looked good. Dare I ask, what's the skin revver upper!?

I'm still waiting for my trial kit Sad Shall be purchasing the big kit on pay day

valiumredhead · 06/10/2011 09:29

If anyone is in America or Austrailia and can get hold of Physicians Formula talc free mineral wear foundation, I can thoroughly recommend it! It's about 10 dollars - I get my sister to bring me over it. It really is fantastic and much cheaper than BE

Sarayu · 06/10/2011 09:31

I'm intrigued by the lily lo lo(?) I am a medium in BE so not sure what colour to go for

Sarayu · 06/10/2011 09:37

Here is a really good review

rusmum · 06/10/2011 09:50

skin revver upper my skin has improved loads since using this. xx

valiumredhead · 06/10/2011 09:51

That is really interesting saraya as in that review is says if you are a Mac NW20 ( I am!) you should be a medium beige -I have always thought that Fair is too light for me. I might get a tester and give it another go...

JodieHarsh · 06/10/2011 09:52

THANKS for the eyemakeupremover recommends - I have Learned My Lesson and shall not be using bog roll again Blush I think it shed lots of little bits of bog-roll-ness and it all got in my eyes and such....

I'm intrigued by the LilyLolo (or whatever) stuff too. Obviously I now belong to BE in manner of Persephone kidnapped and taken to Hades (if Hades was full of lovely makeup and Persephone had had sensitive skin Hmm ) but I am intrigued to know what other mineral makeup is like. Is our Hester going to do a test or is my memory failing me (it probably is).

ANYWAY - i have just packed up 3 little BE gifts for those as asked for them, so they should be in the post later today :)

FINALLY - this thread is about to go bang. On a scale of 1-10 how lame would it be to start a Sheeps' Thread?! Subject matter not restricted to BE but to include other mineral makeup and BBH!
