I am so glad I'm not the only one who is moved by poor Dr Greene!

NJC Ice Age gets me too... Had another couple of thoughts of things that DS loves (not that you wanted anymore ideas, but I do love to share). This book is a current favourite - we get into my bed when DD has her morning nap and while the half hour away with it. It really makes him focus, which is no mean feat. Also, this guitar, one of those noisy gifts you'll hate from a childless friend type numbers, but OMG he loves it so.

The shoe boots have arrived and I love them. Very nearly there on the outfit front, just deciding on my shade of tights..!

WAN your day sounds gorgeous, as does dinner.

Good news on the Aigle front, Bloss. I've cancelled the Barbour order as DH came home with a coat for me, which is lovely of him. It's waterproof, warm and looks quite lovely on, so am very pleased all-in-all will be sticking fingers in ears if anyone mentions Aigle or Barbour. He plumped for Helly Hansen, which I would never have looked at, but DH approaches winter wear from a snowboarding perspective.

carciofi · 06/10/2011 20:17

Rufus, I sent you his name, also you might know some of my family as a couple of them are doctors.

I don't think the green Annina comes in a larger version, unfortunately.

Well, I lasted two days on the Dukan diet and could not take it anymore. That is the first and last time I do a diet, I will just have to eat less cake or go for a run or something. :)

Red, I read Lucky, it is harrowing. I laughed today, I was reading How to Be a Woman on the tube, as was the big, burly guy sitting opposite.

I had a quick look in a couple of shops on the way to see my friend, those shoes you bought look great, Bloss. Liked this red cape in Reiss but was saving for the Anna bag selfless so just bought a couple of things in the Gap (great sale on there at the moment) for the DDs.

NotJustClassic, that looks like a lovely book.

That was quick delivery on the Aigle, I bet I won't like the DKNY but will be stuck with it now!

pickledsiblings · 06/10/2011 20:29

lol carciofi at you and the big burly guy reading how to be a woman, i haven't read lucky, but loved almost moon

did you all see that we need to talk about kevin is out soon - i loved that book

another 'er' fan here, i liked carter too until that horrible thandie newton got her claws into him. dh and i are currently working our way through house season 7, it's great

just watched the video that justine linked to on the steve job thread - that brought a tear to my eye

love that book njc, especially the bit about the mummy being really strong and also love mole and the baby bird

blossoming · 06/10/2011 21:53

You think carciofi? Not frumpy?
My birthday ended badly. Because I'd taken the dcs shopping, dd wouldn't sleep. Somehow she had managed to sleep there and back. She finally stopped whingeing about 9.30, by which time dh and I were barely on speaking terms. I went to bed not long after myself! Ah well. Aigle arrives tomorrow. It better fit!
I am not getting the new fb. Has fleecy had her baby yet?

OP posts:
carciofi · 06/10/2011 22:02

I don't think they are frumpy at all, I would buy them if I were working. Sorry your birthday didn't end well.
Yes, baby girl Fleecette is here!

blossoming · 06/10/2011 22:08

He gets like this carciofi. Really uptight and stressed. Probably doesn't help that I'm going to London Saturday either. Such a shame you're not coming.

OP posts:
carciofi · 06/10/2011 22:19

I get like that too, I have to admit. DH riles the DDs up when I am trying to wind them down and get them into bed. I have a great routine with them in the evenings during the week, at the weekend it all goes to pot but he likes to keep them up so he can see them.

annie, your evening sounds great Smile

bloss, pity about your b'day ending on a bad note. Are you finding it more or less difficult to be sensitive to your DH's stresses now that you are back at work or does it make no difference? I am asking because I am covertly conducting my own impact study on what it might mean to us as a family if I 'go back to work'. DH has got some peculiar notions about the whole thing since our youngest started school a whole month ago...he poo pooed the idea of me having tennis lessons Shock.

annie, that was it! First series was brilliant. Written by one of the SATC writers.
On the subject of work, you have to remember that two days a week I finish 2.30, two days at 3.30, and one at 5. Nothing like office hours. And then DH has always worked in the evening till 10.30 (at home), so now I do prep and marking between 7.30 and 10, about 4 days a week. He doesn't miss me as he works anyway! And then in two weeks I'll have half term. So very manageable.
The only thing suffering is the shred. Must try harder!

Morning.
Cheesecake and champers evening was very nice. Limited myself to 2 half slices (blueberry/lemon and raspberry/white chocolate) - mainly due to trying on Janice before going out and being slightly concerned at what i saw! There were 11 of us just sitting round a table chatting which was lovely.

I was supposed to be going with DH to the funeral of the dad of one of his best friends this afternoon but MIL is ill so can't have the boys. He was a lovely man. He was ill over the summer but Drs couldn't diagnose what was wrong for some time and then it was too late - so sad. I hope DH will be ok - his best friend at Uni committed suicide which had a profound effect on DH and he finds funerals very difficult now.

Just read that back - sorry for being so morbid first thing. Apuski how is your DH?

On a lighter note...
I remember Men In Trees - I liked the fan turned secretary with the ginger hair! Do you remember when Dr Pratt died in ER - I was in in bits at that one too. Rufus Another GA fan here too. The prom one is my all time favourite when Meredith chooses between Derek and the vet guy. I find crying at the tv very cathartic!

This time tomorrow I will be at the airport with a starbucks in my hand. Getting v excited now - but resisting the temptation to run out and buy a new dress!

notyummy · 07/10/2011 09:15

Ooh - nearly time for a new thread!

Glad you enjoyed your evening Ollie.

Hope you are feeling better Bloss and normal relations have resumed!

DH has solemnly promised to assist the evening on the 'what outfit to wear at the MU?' quest. Although he did point out that I sometimes decide to ignore his thoughts on fashion anyway so it could just a receipe for a minor fight. We'll see.....

I remember Men in Trees but didn't watch it. DH and I are currently enjoying a new series on BBC 3 called The Fades. Quite creepy but also very funny.

Right, off for a whirlwind session of housework before I go out for my Friday run.

Have a great day all!

PORTIA4 · 07/10/2011 09:24

Bloss there is so much hype here today about the match tomorrow , I presume it's the same in Wales! Even I am feeling anxious!
This time tomorrow I'll be in London! still don't know what to wear, I have a very early start (4.45am!) and late flight home, anyone else contemplating wearing Agnes?

notyummy · 07/10/2011 09:34

PORTIA - I have some trousers that a cross between Agnes and Houlis that are one (of my three!) options. Am still not sure. Argh!!

VerityBrulee · 07/10/2011 12:15

Hello lovely ladies Smile

It is well and truely wintery here, I have dug out my wristwarmers! We have had a lot of family visits over the last couple of weeks. I feel really drained. I'm hoping dh and the boys won't wake me up at 6 tomorrow.

Sorry your birthday didn't go according to plan Bloss, mine always seem to slightly awry too. Good shoe haul though!

Apuski your poor dh Sad

red, Carciofi marsha and rufus what horrible experiences for you. Rufus your story resonates with me. My mum used to work near the Swan, not the most salubrious establishment! During the late 80s/early 90s she was attacked twice at knife point while at work. I was always worrying about her. Anyway, just before Christmas one year, she was walking up Camden St, there were lots of local people around that she knew. She passed by this one man, and he looked familiar and she assumed she knew him from her work, so she smiled and said hello. It was only afterwards that she realised it was one of the guys who attacked her.He had been jailed for the attack, but was only kept in prison for 2 weeks due to overcrowding Hmm The area is much different now since the DIT college moved in and lots of apartments were built, but I still don't think I'd drink in The Swan!

Yesterday was my first opportunity to get to a shop in ages, I got a lovely dress in Cos that I can't find on their site, it's a navy jumper dress with 2 black leather patch pockets and is v v cosy. I also got this cashmere scarf in navy. Gorgeous soft yarn, a decent size and really good price.

My mum tried on these KG boots a few weeks ago, she was going to buy them but I told her to hold off for a few weeks as there were bound to be sales coming up. Sure enough she got them at nearly half price. I love it when that happens!

I am having a jeans/trousers free week, which I sometimes do when I feel I'm stuck in a sartorial rut. It's been fun, I love wearing dresses. I shall definately wear a pretty one tomorrow, with heels, in honour of the MU. I might even make afternoon tea Smile Hope you all have a lovely time, and fingers crossed I'll make it to the next one!

notyummy · 07/10/2011 12:43

Hi Verity - nice to hear from you and good shopping! It is lovely weather here actually - slightly breezy by very sunny and definitely Autumnal. Just got back from my run to be greeted by a large parcel from ASOS....in DH's name. It is our wedding anniversary next week....hmmm.....

OllieinOrange · 07/10/2011 12:49

Erm,
I may have popped to the shops this morning to return various bits.
I may have detoured via the boutique that had the fashion show last week.
I may have tried on the grey printed silk dress I liked; and
I may have actually purchased it.

It was quite expensive but I used OiO logic (ie if I put all the cash from the refunds towards it, I really only had to pay half Smile.)

May wear it tomorrow or may save it as my 40th bday party dress.

Am now going to lie in a darkened room and recover.

How long before shopping-related guilt goes away?

blossoming · 07/10/2011 13:30

Popping in on my lunch break to say, someone start another thread please!
Oh, and also, my feet hurt. New shoe syndrome!
Still just two lessons to go, then MU preparations can start in earnest. Oh, after swimming, cooking tea, bathing etc etc.
portia, I have been warned to not listen to the radio in the car tomorrow morning!
