Evening all!

wideawakenurse - I had highlights for years - started when I was 25, and gave up when I was pregnant with DD at 37. I have never looked back! Admittedly my hair is quite fair, and because I spend a lot of time outdoors (a lot more since being a mother rather than a 75 hour a week wage slave) all year it lightens up considerably. But there is something very nice about one's own hair colour! However, I do spend a lot on the cut and I wash/blow dry every morning without fail, and also find that wearing more colour is necessary. If I had (God forbid) to return to wearing a dark suit for work every day, I might feel the need to liven the whole look up with more hair colour, IYSWIM.

MarshaBrady · 14/08/2011 08:58

I did the same and had completely natural hair during and after ds2 pregnancy. It was quite fair but I missed the lightness in the end. So have it highlighted at Aveda. I love the colour they use as feels softer and less harsh and not so chemically. It is still expensive, but I don't have to get it done so often as the contrast isn't huge. So Aveda, less often, may be worth a go.

ReineDeSaba · 14/08/2011 10:20

Morning ladies..finally back again..have had a crazy couple of weeks decluttering/sorting combined with dd2 ill last week and DH not been around very much for the last month.

Means I never did get to finish the last thread and will probably lose track of this one fairly soon. Also,in a bid to avoid future marathon sortouts Wink am not clicking on all your links.

ants I did indeed meet your lovely sister,I remembered your DN's name so worked from there.Have you worn the lovely topshop yellow number yet..looks fab!

bloss that's certainly a look Grin

marsha I much prefer sartorilist to WIT but not willowy enough to pull off the former.

fritzi your DD looks adorable in her 'off to school' pic on FB

Red your new neighbours sound lovely.

WAN sorry you are still feeling queasy.

icey must have been lovely to 'meet' baby on the scan.

Am going to have to run as big day out today but big waves to everyone else Smile

notyummy · 14/08/2011 15:03

Now on lovely quiet train back from Big Night Out with no annoying luvvies and lots of Sunday papers. Also loving my new discovery of M and S salad wraps whereby I feel like I am having lots of snacks - but virtually no calories! Went out in Glasgows west end last night, which was fab. Wore TS Jessies with Zara snakeskin top and wooden heels. Whilst no time for shopping I did manage to get a new dress as the friend I was staying with gave me a patterned shift dress that is too small for her- result!

Dh just texted to say that he and DD have had a great 24 hours. They have just done their first ever lengthy bike ride together ( no stabilisers!) to Costa coffee for lunch and are now watching Beauty and the Beast together Smile.

Bloss- loved the boob story!!

Afraid I can't offer any words of hair colouring wisdom. Have never coloured my hair in my life, however am seeing increasing signs of silver so that may change in the next couple of years.

bloss As much as I love the WC swimsuit that is my worst fear! Speaking of which: Does anyone here want a WC Ring Insert Swimsuit in white, size medium? I ordered two sizes and forgot to send back the medium. It's lovely and free, just PM me.

bonsoir DD's school has proper school uniform, i.e. they have tops and are free to wear appropriate dark blue trousers or skirts. However, people over here don't really get the concept of school uniform and I have seen the most unimaginable outfits last week: faded jeans, old trainers or stripey leggings.. I would love to go back to the Prada Outlet and The Mall one day

notyummy So lovely of your friend to pass on her dress Smile.

wan Although I have no highlights, I am a colouring veteran as I had my first single grey hairs when I was 22, can you imagine... Over the years I have found Aveda and Vidal Sassoon do the best colour.

reine I love a good declutter! Does your DH have to travel a lot for work?

marsha I prefer slouchy bags too but always end up with bags that are too big and get heavy. I am looking for a nice cross-body bag but haven't seen anything I like yet.

amber How was the wedding?

AntPants1 · 14/08/2011 17:36

Oh bloss just brazen it out I'd say! I am sure no one noticed. Very impressed you got out of the pool in one smooth pull up. I could never manage that. I always get stuck sort of half in and half out. Not a good look!

NY looks like you conquered Glasgow!!

wan hope you are feeling better. I have someone who comes to my house and does cut and colour. My sister and I often do it together so a nice evening with glass of wine and takeaway. Could that be an option. Agree with others that subtle and very fine highlights will minimise obvious roots and the need to redo too often. I am finding as I get older and more and more grey my roots are much less obvious now!

AntPants1 · 14/08/2011 17:38

Oh and reine hello!! So pleased you found my sister and her brood! I'll text you about park date!! My DS is under the weather at the moment. Temp of 38 for last 24 hours. He was like a furnace last night.

blossoming · 14/08/2011 18:36

ants hair is lovely, people. Very lucky to have found such a hairdresser!
Well done to your dd notyummy, and glad you had a good time.
fritzi, I love the WC costume. As does DH..! No wardrobe malfunctions today. Went for a picnic to Pont du Gard wearing the seal grey shorts, white top and espadrilles, then on to Uzes, gorgeous, gorgeous village. We are revisiting places we went to on our pre wedding honeymoon (as we married in October and just took a few days away).
I am now sitting on the porch, listening to the sound of DH washing up, dcs watching Toy Story DVD, and hoping the storm we just had clears quickly!

blossoming · 14/08/2011 18:43

X post ants. Hope your DS recovers quickly.

wideawakenurse · 14/08/2011 18:46

Sounds lovely Bloss, as does your outfit. Sounds like you have nailed stylish day wear for holidays. I find that one of the most tricky things to do.

Thanks for the hair advice. I have PM'ed you Marsha for further aveda advice. I will also look into someone who might be local and do it in the home.

I have ordered some cetaphil cleanser today, having heard it's supposed to be excellent for upset skin. I am planning to take back all the dermalogica stuff I bought tomorrow. It really did not suit my skin at all.

Lots of viewings of the house this weekend, just waiting for an offer now. Come on people!!

MarshaBrady · 14/08/2011 19:02

WAN have pm'd you. I think anyone at who does colour Aveda will be good. Check out the stylists hair when you go in. If you don't like it then avoid.... Always a good way to choose I think.

PORTIA4 · 14/08/2011 19:09

Hello everyoneSmile, hope that you've all had nice weekends.
I just bought my first pair of Tods - black pumps to go with my Agnes.
Had 3 couples and their Dcs over for a barbq last night after work, so am a bit hungover tired today.
Nothing else to report on an S&B front, Dd2 heading to France to boarding school for the year and am busy getting her organised.

MarshaBrady · 14/08/2011 19:13

Icecream I'm so pleased the scan went well, how lovely.

Fritzi I'm finding bags hard at the minute. I am almost considering Balenciaga, but then again maybe too brand-y.

Reine, everyone has a thing on here, and I think yours might be print. Gorgeous, lovely, pretty print. It suits you! So definitely could go on TS.

On that note, we went to a gallery opening the other day, was very busy. And some of the stuff twenty-something year olds were wearing looked so good. They really had that don't mess with me I'm beautiful and not even trying vibe. (Like we all do of course).

MarshaBrady · 14/08/2011 19:14

Wow Portia, Tods great and dd2 to France, exciting stuff.

Ambernj1 · 14/08/2011 19:54

Hi all

am currently sleepwalking as DD has terrible cold and has kept me awake for the last two nights with her snuffling. Add a teething DS into the mix and it makes for one tired (and short-tempered) mummy! Ah well...

fritzi wedding was good, think I started looking stylish but quickly degenerated - DS insisted on taking my necklace, DD kept grabbing my hair so that quickly went in a messy bun and I got milk all down my front. My outfit was also nicely accessorised with a sleeping baby in a bright red baby bjorn - a good look with my green dress... Sigh. Still I couldn't really hope for much 5 weeks postnatally. The venue was absolutely gorgeous though and I had a couple of cheeky bucks fizzes, so not all bad!

Am pleased today though as my ebaying has raised £360, so a bit of spending is in order I think...

bloss you are making me so jealous with your holiday tales - we never really had a honeymoon, got married 11 months ago, DS was 8 months so thought we'd wait until he was a little older, one month later DD was on the way! One day...

NY love the sound of your outfit - really wanted the green version of the snake top but think it has sold out online!

wan am currently growing out my highlights, a tedious business but I would like to go back to my natural colour which is nearly black (with a lot of white now - I blame the kids)

re WIT, I'm a big fan of her look. Yes it's a bit predictable but she wears it well and always looks well put together. Plus I think it's quite a practical look - classic but on trend and not too outré.

Right off to do some browsing, eBay money burning a hole in my pocket...

Millie1 · 14/08/2011 20:12

Evening Ladies ... am just popping my head in to ask Frances a question! Frances - your Belstaffs! I've been drooling over them since you posted the link! What are they like irl? Are they comfortable/good for walking and what are you wearing them with - would they work with straight legged jeans as well as skinnies or would they just be good with skinnies?

Thanks!Grin

OllieinOrange · 14/08/2011 20:41

Running in with a Meet Up update. I'm working hard(ish) on finding a venue for afternoon tea that ticks all the boxes (ie stylish, relaxed, cupcake tastic etc) but just wanted to check attendees. (Some venues are saying no to a group our size - I think they think we are some riotous hen party Wink)

This is the list I currently have - but please forgive me if I have missed some of you off of it - just let me know - everyone is welcome and all that! Ta!

(From now on, I will be using PM's to discuss the meet up but just wanted to check names!)

Thanks for this ollie.
(Still out on the porch, still drinking wine...)

redllamayellowllama · 14/08/2011 21:08

Riotous hens you say Ollie?! Maybe I'll get the foreplay lessons man from this weekend to join us... Was, ahem, interesting and suitably raucous. Fab weekend with the trashiness tempered by hot tub, pedicure and a microdermabrasion facial (which was great). Had an amazing walk and pub lunch overlooking the river at Symonds Yat today - would highly, highly recommend to anyone in the area.

Amber some links please! Fingers crossed for a better night tonight.

ICC fab news on scan, such a wonderful experience seeing them come to life in that way. My Earharts wash well at 30, inside out.

Thanks for feedback on skinnies Annie - will get myself to Topshop to try them.

Wan I hated the first trimester, hope things start to improve soon. Second an Aveda colouring recommendation.

Hope you had a great day out Reine.

Bloss you sound very glamourous in your holiday get-up. Laughed heartily at your costume tale - sounds like something i'd do, but with both.

Ambernj1 · 14/08/2011 21:29

What do we think of this MJ scarf? I love the autumnal colours.

I also like this Zara tee but think this is a try-on-instore venture as not sure if the colour would wash me out!

Will have to continue browsing tomorrow as the stars are aligned and both DC are asleep - a bath beckons!

notyummy · 14/08/2011 22:06

Love that snakeskin tee Amber- although is it just me, or does that model look particularly skinny?? Not great IMHO.

OP posts:
FrancesFarmer · 14/08/2011 23:21

Hi Millie1,

I haven't worn the Belstaffs properly yet. I'm away from home this week but when I get back next week, I'll have a proper trying on session and report back to you.

AntPants1 · 15/08/2011 07:34

ollie count me in for meet. Thanks for organising.

NY agree zara model looks very tiny. Amber if colour works I think T is a good buy.

roary · 15/08/2011 07:44

Hi all
Flying in and will catch up properly later! Ollie thanks for organizing, am definitely in. I am giggling at how the venues would react if you explained that we are not a riotous hen party but in fact a group of imaginary friends! ANd then you could give a guest list including your friends Carciofi, Icey, Marsha Brady. Grin

AntPants1 · 15/08/2011 07:50

Oh and icey lovely news about the scan. Not long to go before you hit the second trimester!
