Evening all!

OP posts:
redllamayellowllama · 02/09/2011 08:54

Good on you Fritzi!

Welcome back Plum, very much enjoyed reading your blog. Am glad my MiL tale amused you!

Sounds like you've got your work cut out for you Bloss - am sure you'll be fab though and from the sounds of things, you're a stark contrast to their old teacher so all old associations can be left at the door for pupils.

Hope you had a good evening WAN.

We're off to a neighbour's 3rd birthday party this morning - she'll be in DS' year and is such a lovely little thing; full of spirit which is how I like them! Then on to meet a friend in a park before heading off to the cinema tonight. Am wearing bright yellow Cos top and my bargainous Goldsign Misfits which were badly listed on EBay BNWT. I love them!

PlumSykes · 02/09/2011 08:59

What you going to see, Red?

redllamayellowllama · 02/09/2011 09:09

One Day - I am braced for the inevitable disappointment, but can't not see it, iykwim.

redllamayellowllama · 02/09/2011 09:20

Very much like those jumpers btw Plum. They look so, so cosy.

pickledsiblings · 02/09/2011 10:14

Fritzi and Plum, you will be able to get lots of tips from Ollie on how to do a good job as class rep. I guess you can make what you want of the role really, could be fun.

PORTIA, hope the settling in goes well for DD, how exciting. I would have loved to have lived in France for a year at that age.

I'm off to see One Day on Sunday with my Book Group lot. Liike you Red we couldn't not see it. I watched the Lovely Bones movie on TV the other week - thought it was rather good actually. Loved the book. Wonder how The Help will be.

Bloss, marigolds and dvf Grin.

VerityBrulee · 02/09/2011 10:57

Wow, plum I could have written your post word for word! I am seething with dh at the moment, I have had a really stressful week and he is oblivious to it all, but if anything happens to him I am expected to drop everyting to sort it and make him feel better about it. Right now I would like him to disappear in a puff of smoke. Thinking of you WAN

And breathe....... Smile

Bloss it will be a great new start for your pupils, new teacher, new look, new attitude. You are so right to scrub the classroom, rid it of the past and make it your space. I am thinking of you in DVF, apron and rubber gloves and smiling.

I would love a navy and red breton to wear with red skinnies, so smiled when I opened plums link. I love this Jaegar Boutique dress.

Good luck to class reps, I did it when ds1 was little, I suspect it may be my turn again soon.

Portia good luck to dd, what an adventure!

Red enjoy the party, I love 3 year olds, so carefree and full of fun.

Going to spend the morning knitting and sewing to sooth my nerves. I'm making dd's corolle doll a one shouldered ball gown Smile

VerityBrulee · 02/09/2011 11:11

Love this star print dress and this red and this leather dress and this suede one. Oasis seem to be having a dress moment.

Ollie I was v excited to see Maison Scotch the other day, there were some lovely things, am going back to have a better look tomorrow.

FritziGreenEyes · 02/09/2011 11:32

verity Wow lots of great dresses at Oasis! Your DD's Corolle is very lucky (and stylish!)

Sorry to hear about stress with DHs. Hope the weekend will give you the chance to relax a bit.

Want to see One Day too. I loved the book!

Fab outfit today red! Goldsigns are the best.

Thanks ollie, hope I'll do you proud. Might enlist your advice when I have to organize teacher's Christmas present Smile.

blossoming · 02/09/2011 16:26

It seems the tippex removal fairy had been in overnight! That and my new posters and new layout have made a big difference. Yesterday I threw out at least 40 catalogues. Today I found a bag of shoes?? I got to know some of the other staff in meetings this morning. Can't wait to start properly on Monday.
Looking forward to catching up with your links as soon as MiL has left.
Thanks again, mwah!

rufus101 · 02/09/2011 16:31

Smiling at BLOSS in her DVF and marigolds! You are exactly what that place needs BLOSS.
I too am going to see One Day tomorrow, although my nanny saw it last weekend and thought it was rubbish! Mind you, I think s lot of the appeal lies in the references, which you just don't get if you are of a younger demographic.
I will avoid class rep for many a year I hope!

Bonsoir · 02/09/2011 17:29

I was class rep last year and do not want to be class rep again this year. DD is, in any case, going to be with a teacher who is Royalty within the school and there will be plenty of pushy parents candidates for the post of class rep. Loyal customers attentive parents get "rewarded" with the teacher royalty, so it is a mixed blessing to be in that particular class. But I'm not going to complain as there are two teachers (out of five) that I really wouldn't have been happy for DD to be with.

Portia - I'm fascinated by your DD's year in France. How is it organised? Does she normally board?

blossoming · 02/09/2011 17:52

ollie, that dress you like in Austin Reed is £25!
I am depressed after reading that thread though. Supermarkets? Please.

rufus, I know what you mean about the references in One Day. I felt I'd lived most of the experiences myself. Felt a bit uncomfortable for a while tbh. So glad those uncertain days are over!

Hope you're having a nice time in France portia, and hope your dd settles in well. What an opportunity.

Still wading through links..

blossoming · 02/09/2011 17:57

Oh no, just opened plums cosy jumper link and had a miserable flashback to my teens when I was publicly mistaken for a boy wearing a navy and red stripe jumper.. Aaargh!!

carciofi · 02/09/2011 18:17

Bloss, my Italian teacher drove an Alfa Romeo, wore Armani and MaxMara and used to bring us in Italian Vogue! I think you will be that kind of teacher.

blossoming · 02/09/2011 19:06

No wonder you're so good at Italian carciofi! I really hope I can be like that.

blossoming · 02/09/2011 19:17

Anyone tried mother jeans?

MrsCampbellBlack · 02/09/2011 19:25

Evening.

DH off to do a 100 mile race tomorrow - crazy fool!

I am therefore looking forward to an evening of doing my nails and watching rubbish tv and watching our 2 new kittens play.

Have been slightly disconcerted by the incredibly hot weather of the last couple of days as in my head its autumn so had to dig summer dress out from back of the wardrobe.

Took advantage of the gap discount and bought sweet skirt which will be good for winter.

Now if anyone sees the mythical h&m leather skirt for £59.99 on their travels please do let me know Smile

Ollie - sent that link of the dress to my mum as would be fab for her for work and totally bargainous.

Bloss - sounds like new job going well.

PlumSykes · 02/09/2011 19:40

MrsCB, what size do you need? 8? Am going into town tomorrow with DD, will pick up if it's there.

MrsCampbellBlack · 02/09/2011 19:51

Oooh an 8 if you see it plum Smile Thanks

carciofi · 02/09/2011 19:56

Bloss, yes, I tried them on last week. They are very nice indeed. I also like the Mother plum cords. I'd like these Hudsons next, I like the pockets. Glad the Tipex fairy came to help!

The weather was fantastic here today, so I got to wear my Me and Em dress. Went to buy school shoes for DD, she kept saying I love them all, I love shoes. :)

Verity, hope the sewing soothed you. I can't sew, let alone knit. I can just about sew on a button. So thanks for the iron-on label links, Rufus! I've ordered.

Red, I eagerly await your review of One Day. It resonated with me too.

MarshaBrady · 02/09/2011 20:01

Ooh they are nice, I like the plum ones Carciofi.

Verity that is one well dressed doll Smile

WAN hope you are ok, and you have a nice weekend with your dh.

Last day of summer holidays, can't believe it and the weather has been glorious. And I am feeling slightly extravagant as we had breakfast, lunch and dinner out somewhere. Ah so much! (slight excuse, builders are doing work trying to avoid).

blossoming · 02/09/2011 20:46

I am not feeling the love for cords or colours. Tastes are too boring classic.
Hope things are okay with you and your dh verity. (Leinster could comeback you know Wink)

OllieinOrange · 02/09/2011 21:06

I think being class rep really depends on what the school/teacher expects. I had a good experience and liked the other Mum who was doing it with me. I found that arranging one or two socials like a drinks evening went down really well with the other parents too.
Bloss cant make up my mind about the AR dress! Has the potential to either look fab or frumpy i think! Very mad men tho! I do find i get easily swayed by big discounts like that but am wondering why they have so much stock left - from last winter! Be interested to hear what your mum thinks of of it MrsCB
Verity what did you sew? hope it had the calming effect you were after.

DH just left for the airport! Girly tv feest here i come!

redllamayellowllama · 02/09/2011 23:20

Reporting back in post-cinema; i loved it. It pales in comparison to the book in terms of lack of detail (but how can a film do justice to a book?), but when viewed as stand-alone, is great. AH wasn't a million miles away from 'my' Emma and thought she acted superbly despite the patchy accent. Ian was spot-on - hilariously so. Costumes were great - reflecting the year really subtly. I laughed lots and cried more! Will be interested to know what others think.

Also popped into HoF whilst waiting for my friend -so many gorgeous bits in.

wideawakenurse · 03/09/2011 08:21

Good Morning. Once again thank you all for your well wishes and suggestions of help. DH and I had a bit of a talk, in truth somethings will never be resolved, but the air has been cleared and at the moment thats good enough for me. I also had a very positive outcome to a situation at work yesterday that was really worrying me so I feel like I have achieved something there.

I think this next lot of mat leave is a time to reflect and consider my next move though. At least there is light at the end of the tunnel.

carciofi I have those Hudsons. They are very soft, and a good colour but not much stretch in them.

VB I hope that you are feeling better now, you have my sympathies. It's a clearly a theme with some DH's. Hope the sewing was soothing and calming.

Fritzi well done you!

Ollie Hope you had a good night of girly TV. I do miss DH's trips away, they are not as nearly as frequent now...but yes to good TV and the sort of food I want to eat!

Bloss Sounds like you have worked your magic already in the classroom. You sound so full of energy.

More houses to see today, no viewings on our place though.
