primark. for adults most of it is ill fitting and ill made. its ok for ds1 and his skinny jean obsession though. £8 from the girls dept, we brought some and cut them off for the skinny jean summer look, he and his friends are sporting!
for me tops would be too short, trousers too short and all mishapen and horrid looking after the first watch.
even the so called baraagin £1 boy short pants thet my friend tells me she swears by, after first wash no good for dusting let alone wearing.

startail · 04/07/2011 14:15

TKMax life is to short.
I used to like Next, their stuff generally fitted. Now is gone all low waisted frilly and trying to be trendy. The qualities gone to pot too.
BHS have good and bad, my nicest cropped trousers and some of the longest lasting children's clothes have been from there. But it can be the shop time forgotSmile
Boswell's an amazing department store in Oxford, suddenly I knew where old ladies bought their polyester flowery objects!

startail · 04/07/2011 14:17

Oh country casuals, they're having a sale it's still ridiculously over priced and hideous.

LaurieFairyCake · 04/07/2011 14:23

Next - I can't believe I used to queue for their sale 15 years ago Hmm

It's not that it's awful, I just think I would get monumentally depressed wearing polyester suits and their tops are so boooooooooring.

TheSmallClanger · 04/07/2011 14:35

Next is where once-fashionable people go to die. Lots of people I know swear by their perfumes though.

Columbia999 · 04/07/2011 14:41

Bon Marche - frumparama
TK Maxx - I've never managed to find anything nice/cheap/that fits in that godforsaken glorified jumble sale

I'll see your House of Bruar and raise you country attire

LadyBeagleEyes · 04/07/2011 17:42

I have the joy of the House of Bruar catalogue sent to me after visiting there on a number of occasions, as a coffee stop on the A9.
It has an amazing food hall, but I have no clue who would buy their clothes.
There are all sorts of shops that I wonder, who the fuck would wear that, some of the links above have been really funny.
But then you just have to walk around a town and you see who buys them.
Each to their own I suppose, though I wouldn't be seen dead in that stuff

Bearcrumble · 04/07/2011 17:54

There's this awful shop called Hampstead Bazaar for mad old posh ladies (think Molly Parkin) - full of flowing asymmetric jersey and velvet turbans.

TaudrieTattoo · 04/07/2011 17:55

Littlewoods

TaudrieTattoo · 04/07/2011 17:55

Does that even still exist?

I had never heard of the House of Boak Bruar before.

Only £95 for a tweed fitted waistcoat. I think I'll pass. Shock

wildstrawberryplace · 04/07/2011 18:15

Yes to Hampstead Bizarre Bazaar - godawful

LadyBeagleEyes · 04/07/2011 18:20

Thanks for the link wildstrawberry.
Who, I mean who??

QuimFabray · 05/07/2011 00:39

River Island - shiny, sequinned, bejewelled shite.

Cotton Traders - Those polo shirts are beyond fug.

queenmaeve · 05/07/2011 10:02

Next because as sure as you buy something from it, 3 other people turn up to work wearing the same thing

Asinine · 05/07/2011 10:05

Anne summers

The thought of it brings me out in a rash

chillistars · 05/07/2011 10:09

I do have to get my clothes all from one shop - the charity shop. Not ideal but it is what I can afford.

You cut your cloth....and if you can afford better then just appreciate it.

JanMorrow · 05/07/2011 12:03

Kookai, I'd be naked, nothing would fit :(

thefirstMrsDeVere · 05/07/2011 15:17

Sainsbury's sale is cheaper than most charity shops. Primark sells its stuff considerably cheaper than many charity shops do.

I only buy in charity shops if its something of particularly good quality or unusual.

Not everyone on MN is rich

quirrelquarrel · 05/07/2011 16:03

Jack Wills.
£12 a sock, anyone?

The hoodies are nice for the first couple of washes and then they go all hard and lumpy.
I'm size 8ish and the size 14 felt like I was hugged by a boa constrictor.

LemonLime · 05/07/2011 16:27

I think it's hamptead bazaar that has such famed clientele as D Judy D.
Worst nightmare shop would be River Island. Gah.

redandyellowandpinkandgreen · 05/07/2011 22:52

Primark. I like natural fabrics and I would just itch, plus I always think of their stuff as being all crumpled and badly finished.
