Palazzo pants. Yay or nay?

I covet a pair of palazzo pants, but am slightly concerned that they may go horribly wrong and end up looking like pjamas.

Also, I'm not a fan of buying the 'in' thing.

Any views?

So what are we thinking about the shortened palazzo, I.e. The culotte!

I've seen a nice pair in new look that I'm tempted to buy...

Verso · 13/05/2011 13:00

I think it was the Monkees (and now I feel old Hmm. The culotte is a dangerous beast - could end up adding width rather than floatiness... how to style? Any ideas? (No, don't give me ideas or I'll just end up shopping! Grin)

Verso · 13/05/2011 13:01

no idea what happened with my parentheses there... gah

Pinkjenny · 13/05/2011 13:37

Culottes are tricky, I think.

The fact my MIL wears culottes rather puts me off em. Wink

now having cold feet about my impulse buy of last night. The model in the pic was a size 8 and looked good, as size 8, 5 foot 10 models are prone to.

I am a size 14 heading to 16 on the bottom half, I'm going to look an elephant dressed in a circus tent aren't I?

spooktrain · 13/05/2011 16:09

look like an elephant, even

Pinkjenny · 13/05/2011 16:10

trust me, spooktrain. Look at my profile, I'm no Kate Moss, and they look lovely. Honest.

OMG - all the crimes against fashion are coming back. Does no one else recall the horror of the 80's and early 90's.

Palazzo pants are farking hideous on 95% of the population. Whats worse is the highstreet stores are making most of them in the same paperbag crappy creasy material as they did last time they were in fashion. Dont sit down or drive in them, unless you want to add the scrunched paper bag look to the plazzo horrors.

What with leggings and esperdrilles making a come back I feel like I am living in some kind of 80's nightmare. I still recall the smell of damp rotting esperdrilles!!!

Pinkjenny · 13/05/2011 16:20

Now, espadrilles? No.

What Collegemum38 said. You can put any old unflattering shit in the shops and people start to think 'hmmm, maybe they're not so bad if everyone else is wearing them'

These are bad. Really bad.

KristinaM · 13/05/2011 19:10

I have navy ones in a floaty material from zara and they are fab. I wear them with shortish fitted tops that come just to my waist and very high ( for me) wedges

They are not as wide as the a sos ones that look a bit like a long skirt, these are definitely trousers IYSWIM. They are flat fronted so don't emphasise my flabby tum. I heart them

AmberPig · 13/05/2011 22:44

I'm with MadameOvary on this one, do they seriously look good on anyone other than a 6' model? IMO wide legged trousers make your legs look shorter. At 5'2" this is not something I need, especially as I don't do heels. Slimfit bootcut for me, I don't care if it isn't in fashion!

claire201 · 14/05/2011 08:05

I have just bought a pallazo pant jumpsuit out of next, plain navy silky material. I think it's surprisingly flattering, but I am not sure I am brave enough to wear it!

diddl · 14/05/2011 12:10

Thank goodness that I´m not the only one who thinks that they look bloody awful most of the time-even on the models!

Adair · 15/05/2011 07:23

I bought these maternity trousers (i think they are the same) 5 years ago when pregnant. They have never left my wardrobe. Amazing trousers!

overmydeadbody · 15/05/2011 08:47

aren't they just hippy-style flared with a new name?

overmydeadbody · 15/05/2011 08:47

flares, even

NOmeansNO · 15/05/2011 21:08

did you find any 34inchers...ideally i would like 36 inchers Blush so i can wear very heels. but... i think i am pushing it aren't i Sad

blushingm · 15/05/2011 22:05

adair - i had those - the most comfy ever!! i lent them ouut and never got them back Sad

QueenLaQueefer · 18/05/2011 15:57

Got mine yesterday.

Lets just say I'm glad dh wasn't around when I tried them on. He would have laughed his AO.

DD said they looked awesome, but she's 9 and wears hotpants with spotty tights, so what does she know.

Weirdly, they looked ok from the back, but when I turned to the side...Shock

KristinaM · 18/05/2011 16:10

All I can say is that you lot must all have big arses. Coz I look fab in mine and get many admiring glances. At least I think they are admiring......

mosschops30 · 19/05/2011 16:29

Mine came today but i think theyre a bit short, am 5'7 it says model is 5'10, but i doubt id get away with more than flip flops, is that a no no. Or are they not supposed to be dragging on the floor?
Are they meant to sit at your waist or on your hips?
Do like them though
