Palazzo pants. Yay or nay?

Pinkjenny · 03/05/2011 10:48

I covet a pair of palazzo pants, but am slightly concerned that they may go horribly wrong and end up looking like pjamas.

Also, I'm not a fan of buying the 'in' thing.

Any views?

I am shortish, 5'4", and pretty skinny/boys frame, ie no bust or hips. Desperately want some new and exciting clothes as so bored of mine, what do you think, or do you need hips?

RockChick1984 · 12/05/2011 15:51

Thankyou, think I'm gunna have to treat myself!

AmeliaP · 12/05/2011 15:54

Palazzos? Even after reading 25 threads of nothing but pure praise for the palazzo, I'm not convinced. That's how much of a palazzo sceptic I am. Give me pizza not palazzos! But I'm glad they solve wardrobe/body dressing dilemmas for many women

melikalikimaka · 12/05/2011 17:19

Agree, Amelia, they look cack!

startail · 12/05/2011 17:30

I'm 5' 4". I'm too short and too plump for tucking in. I've tried on wide legged trousers before and I know the result. I look like a square blob.
I'll stick to straight trousers and tasteful bootlegs. Anything loose and flappy I am VHmm about.

spooktrain · 12/05/2011 18:32

have just bought the asos ones...have high expectations this will solve all my fashion problems

[over hopeful?]

scotsgirl23 · 12/05/2011 18:38

Like anything startail it depends on your shape. Bootlegs are a bit like sticking a sign on me saying "look, Huge thighs over here" and I always just end up looking like a bag lady because they don't fit properly.

I live in dresses. And skirts. I haven't worn trousers since my daughter was born a year ago. I struggle with them THAT much!

Spooktrain - possibly overhopeful! :)

MumblingRagDoll · 12/05/2011 18:52

This section makes me laugh! About 3 months ago I askked about Palazzo pants and was laughed off the thread!

Comments llike "You will look like an old granny" etc.

Jonnyfan · 12/05/2011 20:10

Hate them; always look like a fat person hiding.

rumpleteaser · 12/05/2011 20:17

I saw this thread and thought 'yay, this will solve all my problems!'
Am now more confused than ever!
I want something that's floaty like the palazzo pants but is tight fitting around the hip and bum area.
I'm trying to find the exact same trousers I bought for a fiver from a market in Turkey and are now ruined with bleach and glue... They hung so nice, made from a stretchy material but washed well and never looked cheap or saggy..
oh.. Sad I miss them.
I have tried many a palazzo pant but they have they wierd pleaty thing around the hip/tum which makes my mid section look like a hot air balloon and they just don't hang well on my pear/apple/pumpkin body!

scotsgirl23 · 12/05/2011 20:25

Is this the kind of shape you mean rumple?

rumpleteaser · 12/05/2011 20:44

Yes!! AND you've just helped me discover that Next deliver to Bulgaria! I think I love you scotsgirl!
Ok next question... a dumb one..
Polyester... it's stretchy yeh? Does it shrink when washed? I am inbetween sizes and have 2 pairs of Next jeans the same size, one fits perfectly and one falls down... Hmmm

scotsgirl23 · 12/05/2011 20:46

Absolutely no idea - I've been hunting for them in a shop to try on! No such luck! The changing room in helper in next did tell me the other day that their sizes seem to be especially small this season (and no she wasn't humouring me, I'd had to ask for a smaller size!) so I'd probably err on the big side. I've seen a few threads on here lately saying their trousers seem a little mean!

rumpleteaser · 12/05/2011 20:54

I will try them I think, can always send them back. Thank you very much for your help!

ManicAnnie · 12/05/2011 21:01

This is madness. They are monstrous. I cannot be theonly sane person who thinks these trousers are comically bad?

EggyAllenPoe · 12/05/2011 21:03

i am concerned that they would still be tightand show the lumpy thigh-top and crease round where my thighs converge, nand not show off the slim part of my leg....and surely they (like my bootcuts) get trodden on and worn at the hem something vicious?

QueenLaQueefer · 12/05/2011 22:15

Ach, just ordered some in that rust colour from Asos.
Bloody Mumsnet. I'm such a sheep.

I've been after some trews in that colour, tbh. Have sized down, so I'll lay off the pies for a bit.

They do a petite version, I see.
I'm 5'5'', but have dumpy legs & a long body, and I can't do heels, so I may need those.

KnottyLocks · 12/05/2011 22:46

Bloody still love them. I am embracing the hippyeasque Kathryn Hepburn within me.

Now there's an image. Grin

KnottyLocks · 12/05/2011 22:46

And I've just made a new word up too. Blush

Watchoutdailyfail · 13/05/2011 07:37

I used to haave a pair that I wore with one of those tunic thngs that asian women sometimes wear. (salwaar kameez?), and even though it was slightly pjama esque, it worked. Or at least I thought it worked. The tunic was relatively fitted though, and then loose from the waist, if that makes sense?

MadameOvary · 13/05/2011 09:13

I am 5'3" and the sight of those Next ones had me crying "noooooooo" I would look so, so wrong in them. Am a weird petite-but-curvy shape and need trousers that are well-cut, low waisted and cling in the right places.
Palazzos are, sadly, Just Too Flappy.

princesscasino · 13/05/2011 11:23

I love my palazzo pants - nice and cool and swishy.

However I should add that my 12 yr old daughter has said she will pretend she is not with me if I wear them anywhere near her school...

:)

Helltotheno · 13/05/2011 11:37

'Comments llike "You will look like an old granny" etc.'

Yeah I think the word 'mumsy' gets bandied around indiscriminately here. Let's face it, one woman's 'mumsy' is another's 'fashionable' and vice versa!

Re palazzos, like the look but don't see how I can get away with them, being a slight pear....

Verso · 13/05/2011 12:11

This thread inspired me so today I am mostly wearing a grey floaty palazzo trouser (sic) and have already had two compliments Grin.

Pinkjenny · 13/05/2011 12:49

You must just try them. I was dubious also, hence the thread, and now, well, I'm a believer, in the words of The Monkees. Was it The Monkees?
