Over here all you 40s and fading!

OP posts:
Pagwatch · 03/05/2011 14:21

I had a couple of years of weird, erratic and unpredictable periods - more often than not really really heavy. But I have had nowt for about 8 months I think. Maybe longer.
That is a definate upside .

MrsSchadenfreude · 03/05/2011 14:21

So how old are those of you who have no periods? And have you put on loads of weight? All of my friends who have hit menopause have absolutely ballooned - my friend who was a tiny size 8 has grown to size 16. And I am like Ten Ton Tessie already! >

Hullygully · 03/05/2011 14:23

I typed a long type, but it has been eaten. No energy (old) to do it again, but it was jolly interesting, I can tell you

FellatioNels0n · 03/05/2011 14:24

My mum got massive after the menopause. She'd always been fairly slim up until then. She gave up smoking and took up drinking in a big way though, which probably didn't help.

Hullygully · 03/05/2011 14:25

Oh hello Fell, how lovely to see you! Yes, goodness, I have been away, how kind of you to notice.

herbaceous · 03/05/2011 14:26

Arf.

Just remembered another nugget of cringe. A couple of weeks ago I was with DS at playgroup, and another lady, of indeterminate age, said casually 'so, are you his grandma then?' This came hot on the heels of a couple in a pub thinking I was pregnant. Lord, take me now.

On the plus side, the neighbour's home improvements have taken an interesting turn. Sadly gone is the nubile carpenter, to be replaced with some gigantic tool that is vibrating the party wall, and floor, at very low frequency. I'm off to press my aging front bottom against the wall for a cheap thrill.

FellatioNels0n · 03/05/2011 14:27

My hair has gone weird as well. All thin and wispy and unruly. I went out with Alouiseg the other day and she has hair like Kate Middleton and no facial lines whatseover, and I sat there feeling like this

Pagwatch · 03/05/2011 14:27

I was roughly a size 10. Now roughly a size 12.

But that half a stone / 10 pounds went on over about a month even though I haven't changed diet or excercise. And it Will Not Budge.

Hullygully · 03/05/2011 14:28

Embrace it Paggy, call it Cecil and treat it with love, it wants to be your friend.

Maiasaurus · 03/05/2011 14:29

MrsS I just tried your mirror tip.

I seem to have jumped the looking-like-your-mother stage and gone straight to looking-like-your-nan.

Pagwatch · 03/05/2011 14:30

I need a retort to use when really helpful shop staff say
" noooooo, it is not too young for you. My mum has one like that"

"fuck off" isn't as pithy as I would like

c0rn51lk · 03/05/2011 14:30

pag that's exactly like me - I was always a 10 and now a 12. I've put weight on over xmas and have dieted loads and massively increased my exercise and it's still there.

Pagwatch · 03/05/2011 14:32

I am embracing Cecil. I buy him chocolates don't I ?

I wish he wasn't entirely settled on my arse and thighs though. Some boob age would even me out a bit.

Having skinny, fit children doesn't help though does it?
And ds1s girlfriend is an 18 year old blonde sprinter who does not wear make up because she does not need it.

FellatioNels0n · 03/05/2011 14:33

I did notice Hully, acksherly. What with you gone, and Pag was on holiday and Getorf was in 'orspital for a bit, and LeQueen had gorn and got herself a proper grown up job, and it has been really, really quiet over these last few weeks. I got lonely, (no, I'm fine now, don't worry about me) but I got loads of useful things done in real life, which was a revelation. You should all go away more often.

Swedes2 · 03/05/2011 14:33

My John Lewis order arrived. I bought two dresses (for one wedding) and I adore them both. Do I really want two maxi dresses though? I also bought a linen shirt for wearing with jeans and Converse on school run/ in the garden all day pottering type thing and I like it too.

Saggars - I have a 3yo a 5 yo and teenagers (19 and 15). So my weekend mornings are spent trying to persuade the youngest pair to stay in bed a little longer and persuading the teenagers to get up a little earlier. Why do teenagers live on NY City time?

Pagwatch · 03/05/2011 14:33

It feels a bit like your body is turning on you, doesn't it corny?

Pagwatch · 03/05/2011 14:34

Real life?

FellatioNels0n · 03/05/2011 14:35

RL is very exciting at the moment - I don't really have time to be old! I need all the energy I can get!

MrsSchadenfreude · 03/05/2011 14:37

Pagwatch - you could try what I did in a shoptician recently, when I was about to spend $$$$ on a pair of designer specs. The young optician said "Oh those really suit you - my Nan has the same pair and they look lovely on her too."
I just threw them on the counter, snatched up my prescription and stormed walked out of the shop.

I, err, got the same glasses in another shop, but no Nan comments were forthcoming.

I DO NOT LOOK LIKE SOMEONE'S NAN. Although my SIL is 2 years younger than me and has been a "nan" since she was about 38.

FellatioNels0n · 03/05/2011 14:38

Oh dear that was very attention seeking and drip feedy wasn;t it? Grin

As a whole 25 seconds has passed and no-one has said 'Why, Fell, pray tell?'

I will just tell you now whether you are interested or not. Grin We are moving. To Abroad. Shock

MrsSchadenfreude · 03/05/2011 14:39

OOh. We are Abroad too. Where are you going, pray tell?

FellatioNels0n · 03/05/2011 14:39

Sorry for hijack. No more talking about MEEEEE on this thread unless it is geriatric-related. Grin

MrsSchadenfreude · 03/05/2011 14:40

Oh that's not fair. We want to know.

FellatioNels0n · 03/05/2011 14:41

PMed you Mrs.

Pagwatch · 03/05/2011 14:41

Grin at mrsS

Where fell ? It is somewhere lovely where, you know, the people what like you may want to come and visit....
