Late 40s, menopausal and fading

Swedes2 · 21/04/2011 13:27

I haven't as yet submitted to the full beard and elasticated waistband trousers. But heck, it's hard isn't it? I absolutely love clothes, make-up, and all that shit.... but I am becoming more and more interested in my garden (not a euph). Last night I went to the garage to buy milk in my gardening clothes.

Anyone else going through the same thing? Have you any tips you can share?

Does anyone have any recommendations for omega oils?

CointreauVersial · 25/04/2011 20:55

Nice work, BigTilly, linking to the Meet-up thread, liking your style.

I'm already signed up; don't think I qualify as a famous name, but it should be a laugh. A few of my fellow low-carbers are going, so we can bore everyone senseless with our talk of flaxseed benefits and celeriac recipes.Grin I'm sure we can stretch the subject of conversation to cover Evening Primrose and the joys of the M&S Classic collection.

mittenkitten007 · 25/04/2011 21:44

Udo's Choice have a good name with omega oils. capsules

Can get it in either capsules or just the oil -- keep refrigerated.

May I join you? 46 this year and fading fast. I find it such a depressing time! I joined a gym a few months ago and after nearly three months of working out and cutting back on rubbish, lost a grand total of ... a couple of pounds. For a few days over the Easter period I started drinking small amounts of wine again and having a tiny bit more food and it is all back on. I don't have much to loose, but it will just not budge.

My hair looks rubbish. I am short AND long sighted. My knees and back have gone. DH is younger than me and I feel so ancient; I rejoice every time I see another grey hair on his head.

It's not fair this happens to women [stamps feet and spills wine].

pointydog · 25/04/2011 22:39

You're all going running?

Have you considered the osteoporisis risk?

cyb · 25/04/2011 22:44

Weight bearing exercise good to ward off osteoporosis non? We are not brittle boned just yet hopefully...

Thanks for correct spelling, cyb. I never get that one right.

chipstick10 · 25/04/2011 22:56

My knee swells occassionally and i cant kneel or crouch. Suffered bursitis a few years back and so i darent run. As i have said in a previous post i rebound its marvellous excersise. I would like to stregnthen my knees does anyone have any tips. What is male pattern baldness? I noticed about 8 months ago my fringe had thinned and the sides of my hair. However my dad was very ill at the time and i was under imense stress and anxiety. My hairdresser has told me that the little fine hairs in that area are new hair, so im a bit confused. Im thinking i may have lost a bit but it seems to be growing back.

CointreauVersial · 25/04/2011 22:59

I thought running/exercise actually prevents osteoporosis? Strengthens the bones by causing lots of minuscule stresses which cause the bone tissue to reinforce itself.

thenightsky · 25/04/2011 23:03

Running is good for prevention of osteoporosis.

mittenkitten007 · 25/04/2011 23:05

YY, Cointreau is right I believe. Also the muscles pull on the bone and encourage it to renew itself.

I had bone density measured 2 -3 years ago (just in forearm) and it was fine anyway.

mateysmum · 26/04/2011 08:27

Moving back to the UK soon aged 49 and 3/4 from hotter climes and all my cool weather clothes are about 10 years old. I'm not the same weight shape and everything looks so dated and dull. But when I look in UK shops it seems everything is made for either people with no sense of style teenagers or things my mum would have worn. What shall I do? Where can I shop? Need to impress the yummy mummies at DS's new school, but not appear mutton as lamb.
Also Dh is a right tight fisted so and so careful with money so no designer sprees for me.
What I hate about this age, is I do try and exercise, but nothing happens. 10 years ago with this much effort the pounds would have fallen off.
Did invest in some No7 Protect and Perfect the other day and Touch Eclat is next.

Morning Smile

Kerry - weight-lifting is fine but they say that high impact is even better. You need to balance the benefit against the risk of damage to your joints if you have a weakness there.

Back to work today

LadyCornyOfSilk · 26/04/2011 09:22

Morning all Smile

mateysmum - find out what size you are in different places and get stuff from ebay. Ebay all your old stuff and you'll have £££. I like white company, Isabella Oliver type stuff.

mudandmayhem - exactly the same with working out madly and hardly losing any weight

BecauseImWoeufIt · 26/04/2011 09:29

Well I started today. (DH and I are away for a long weekend at the end of May and so I have to shed some weight before then)

"How hard can it be?" thought I, before I set off. "Only running for a minute and then walking for a minute and a half. That will be easy!"

Shoot me now, please.

(And I only managed half of the 8 runs Blush)

JackieNo · 26/04/2011 09:47

I've been lurking on this thread - loads of inspiring stuff - thank you. I second the Tracy Anderson weightless arm routine and her routine with weight. I saw change in my arms after 2 wks!

I'm not running - contemplating from my sofa doing a shred today, after the gym yesterday.

One q: if I don't have an iphone, how do I obtain the C25K download to listen to? I could borrow DH's itouch - would that work?
