Late 40s, menopausal and fading

I haven't as yet submitted to the full beard and elasticated waistband trousers. But heck, it's hard isn't it? I absolutely love clothes, make-up, and all that shit.... but I am becoming more and more interested in my garden (not a euph). Last night I went to the garage to buy milk in my gardening clothes.

Anyone else going through the same thing? Have you any tips you can share?

Power Plate, that should be.

c0rn51lk · 01/05/2011 21:45

BIWI- I am also Blush with the machines at the gym. Why are they so complicated? TBH I only started running because I couldn't work out how to use anything else after a refurb.

WhatsWrongWithYou · 01/05/2011 22:31

Can't you ask them to give you a review and a new programme? My gym claims to do this every 8 weeks I think, but I've only had one review and I've been a member for nearly a year although I only go about once a fortnight.
Must get onto them and ask for a re-grading.

I'm afraid I Did Something Bad on Thursday. DS2's school had a RW picnic and I didn't apply suncream as I already had my make up on and didn't want to smudge it. Then the sun came out and I ended up with bright red nose and forehead, plus red stripe across cheeks. The worst thing was I had to go to the hairdressers on Saturday and sit under the hot lights for the colour. Tres embarrassant.

Been slathering on calendulon cream at bedtime which has actually taken the heat out of it - but am strictly a Factor 50 girl as of now.

But I wore a pair of last summer's cropped trousers today, which didn't fit me last week, and the muffinage is nearly gone, so that's all good.

TheREALcyb · 01/05/2011 22:58

thenightsky

the serums are ones noddyholder MADE me buy, a wrinkle filler one which goes on forehead , number 11's (actually mines just a giant 1) and crows feet

Other serum is lightening one which seems to fade brown spots, eye shadows and freckles and gives more even tone

Swedes I went to the Kingston branch of Rush. The gal really knew her onions

BecauseImWorthIt · 01/05/2011 23:01

I have my colour done at Rush Wimbledon, and they're fab too

c0rn51lk · 01/05/2011 23:03

get a gander at your colour card next time. See what it says.

WhatsWrongWithYou · 01/05/2011 23:23

I mentioned Menopausal Blonde to my 23yo (male) hairdresser yesterday, and he was Shock - said he's never seen it on any cards here. < Relieved >

WhatsWrongWithYou · 01/05/2011 23:24

bigTillyMint · 02/05/2011 06:58

BIWI, it should already be turned on, when you start cycling, the lights come on! Most things work fine if you just press quick start.
Anyway, all new starters should hve a gym induction before being allowed to use the equipment - health and safety!

Am feeling quite upbeat this morning as seem to have started a mini-period (first after starting on this pill) and have miraculously lost 2lb in 24hoursSmile

saggarmakersbottomknocker · 02/05/2011 08:24

But cornsilk I love bread. Nice bread with loads of butter. It is my downfall.

I'm going for a run to shift bready bloatiness. It's bloody windy here but loadsof blue sky. [cheerful]

Vibrating plate sounds a bad idea. My wobbliness would continue to wobble for days after I got off!

BecauseImWorthIt · 02/05/2011 08:37

BTM - I know it should come on when you start cycling, but it didn't. Maybe that one was broken?! I'm going to fix an induction anyway, given that all the stuff is different to the ones I'm used to using.

Well done on the 2lbs!

minieggfannomore · 02/05/2011 08:44

Hello - it's the first day of my 'attempt to lose the gut' regime.

I have just done day 1 of Couch25k - or rather I haven't as I could only do two of the bursts of running.

Am so unfit. But I did walk fast and stay out for half an hour. Am hoping perseverance will pay off and eventually I will be running.

Good luck to any fellow starters today.

cyb · 02/05/2011 08:52

saggars I love bread too. In fact I woudl go as far as to say I'm addicted to it. But it plays too big a part in every meal I eat and when I stop eating it so much I lose weight

Blackduck · 02/05/2011 09:40

I did second C25K yesterday (having done first on Saturday) and am now crippled! I was going to go this morning, but would have been hobbling around! Wiltry tomorrow morning (whichshould be interesting as also back to work). I had one glass of wine yesterday and ate well again. I, too, need to avoid bread as I can eat a loaf on my own :)
Brought myselfsome bright red cropped trousers to cheer myself up (best friend is awaiting test results and it don't look good), and also as a spur to lose the tum and the thighs....
Feeling better physically, but weird mentally, but thats due to other stuff.

polyhymnia · 02/05/2011 09:58

Have been reading some of these and just read cabbageroses latest few postings. Just to say, I think her advice is excellent and common sense.

I say this even though, I don't put it all into practice - in particular, have been overweight and stlil am - but am also tall and hourglass and love looking for nice clothes which flatter my shape. I'm also, unlike her, planning to have a crop, a style which I've been hankering to return to. A trendy rahter than an old lady one is the plan - worked out by me and stylist at one of leading London salons. Also going to have some new high and lowlights put in.

cabbage mentions people who 'give up' when they hit 50 but, quite honestly, as a baby boomer and so 'even' older than her, I know very few people, and none of my close friends, who have chosen to do this. No reason to do so nowadays. My only contemporaries who do look mumsy and with dreary hairstyles are people who have never prioritised the way they look anyway.

So I don't think anyone needs to 'give up' - there's so much out there now to enjoy and to keep you looking good.

minieggfannomore · 02/05/2011 09:59

Blackduck - could u do all the running bits?

orangina · 02/05/2011 10:10

Ok, this thread was MADE FOR ME, and I am going to have to come back and join in FULLY when my exams are over.....

Please make any follow on thread super visible please, and I'll see you all on May 13th!

saggarmakersbottomknocker · 02/05/2011 13:56

cyb - I'm addicted to carms fullstop. I find it really difficult to give them up but I'm trying.

TanteRose · 02/05/2011 14:04

study on sleep in middle age

apparently, both too little sleep AND too much are bad...causing loss of brain power in middle age

saggarmakersbottomknocker · 02/05/2011 14:05

*carbs.

FGS. Losing my ability to type now too.

Pagwatch · 02/05/2011 14:20

I have been avoiding this thread. After vomiting up my radishes and pledging to the cause, I have had a week of pimms, wine, barbecue, picnics, no exercise and I haven't even been in the garden let alone studied my perennials...
[hopeless]

Ok. Tomorrow is another day.

cyb · 02/05/2011 14:26

Love your dress made of curtains Pag

Pagwatch · 02/05/2011 14:29

Awww, thank you.
I do look scraggy though.

Pagwatch · 02/05/2011 14:31

I think we will need two threads when this one dies. The confusion of garening and beauty tips could have disastrous consequences for those of us who cannot always find our glasses.

I need to avoid the carbs too. But they call me.

clangermum · 02/05/2011 16:35

And maybe divide the runners and non-runners. I have running envy, in that I'd love to want to do it, but I just don't, not even a little....but I walk very quickly everywhere Smile
