Late 40s, menopausal and fading

I haven't as yet submitted to the full beard and elasticated waistband trousers. But heck, it's hard isn't it? I absolutely love clothes, make-up, and all that shit.... but I am becoming more and more interested in my garden (not a euph). Last night I went to the garage to buy milk in my gardening clothes.

Anyone else going through the same thing? Have you any tips you can share?

Yeah Swedes2 getting old is a busy timeSmile

noddyholder · 25/04/2011 17:03

The libido thing is very odd

MrsFlittersnoop · 25/04/2011 17:05

Have been using Dermalogica overnight clearing gel (which I've always sworn by) to treat the zits, but my normal moisturising routine has been shot to pieces. Don't want to moisturise too heavily in case the acne gel can't work, so skin is becoming very dehydrated.

I'm also concerned about the possibility of this being an allergic reaction. I invested in some Boots no. 7 protect and perfect products just before the Acne Attacked. Stopped using them just in case. Anyone had any problems with this stuff? I've seen people on t'internet say they've had bad reactions.

TheGirlWhoIsBootilicious · 25/04/2011 17:08

What do you mean by odd noddy?

noddyholder · 25/04/2011 17:09

All or nothing.

CointreauVersial · 25/04/2011 17:13

I wouldn't mind a bit of "all" but alas, it's just a lot of "nothing" right now.

CointreauVersial · 25/04/2011 17:16

Not liking the sound of acne....

The only time I ever suffered from it was when I gave up the pill when trying for DC1. It was horrendous - mainly on my back. The doctor's advice was to "get pregnant" - and that certainly cleared it, and it has never been back.

But it was definitely hormone-related, and I'm not sure I can rely on the same method to cure it if it re-occurs now. Grin

TheGirlWhoIsBootilicious · 25/04/2011 17:20

'Tis feast or famine, for months at a time. So just as I think "this is it, life as we know it" things change and I have to follow my hormonesConfused

But, my orgasms are out of this WORLD during the crazy phase, absolutely unbelieveable!

saggarmakersbottomknocker · 25/04/2011 17:23

Yes - agree all or nothing. Mainly nothing then maybe once every couple of months all Confused

I was going to do Shock then but thought it maybe misconstrued. Blush

noddyholder · 25/04/2011 17:24

Just as dp is saying oh fgs I can't keep up with you I go dead as a dodo

RoseCampion · 25/04/2011 17:38

Agree about the libido thing it's all or nothing . After (nearly) 2 years on hrt, I can't say it's made much difference, except that on the nothing days i can be persuaded.

Is anyone else having problems with their hair? I have male pattern baldness which means my hair is receding like a bloke's Blush

TheGirlWhoIsBootilicious · 25/04/2011 17:49

Yep, Rose thinning hair I have a general overall thinning, but at the moment am using volumising shampoos etc. But looking at other family members it aint going to be better. After menopause, I have aunts who have (male pattern baldness). My older cousin wears a topper (half wig/hair extensions) very successfully.

In that respect I say whatever goes unnoticed works.

MrsFlittersnoop · 25/04/2011 18:00

Hmm, getting updiffed no longer an option here either!

Libido? what's all that then? Am a born-again virgin, - simply can't remember what all this fuss about SEX is. Would rather have cup of cocoa and gingernut.

Would love to start running, but have plantar fasciitis in feet which makes it very difficult can't seem to burn off a relatively small food intake anymore. Managed to shift 10lbs in 6 weeks on a 900 calorie (plus 100 for milk) per day diet, which was just grim. Felt faint, foul-tempered and light-headed, and often couldn't sleep due to hunger pangs. Weight loss has stalled again.

Oops - that should read "makes it very difficult to walk, and explains the 2 stone that has crept on."

50 and menopausal - but my motto is you're never to old to be immature! Grin

OeufaBrain · 25/04/2011 18:12

I have an allotment. my greenhouse is my 'den'. I have a special mug that I take..... I am lost, aren't I?

When I turned 40, someone pulled the rip cord and I ballooned about 2 stone. It is the fact that ALL my clothes are too small. I do not know what suits me any more., I love clothes but I am having to change my entire style. I used to be all waif-y and wispy and looked much younger than my age.

Now i just don't know what I look like.

bigTillyMint · 25/04/2011 18:16

This is so depressing.

What we all need is something to look forward to - maybe even set a small goal to reach by then?

This is what you're looking for Grin

Come on, you know you want to!

Meet up! Meet up! Meet up!!!

Am gonna name change, soon tho', be welcoming to newcomers, they could be (m)oldies/familiar MNers in disguiseWink

But, hey, there is nothing really we can do about aging, and as my Dad says, "Whatever you look like on the outside, you are aging on the inside" I prefer it to the alternative (i.e. untimely demiseBlush)

bigTillyMint · 25/04/2011 18:37

Yes there are lots of famous names going, some in new guisesWink

And lots of nobodies, like meSmile

mathanxiety · 25/04/2011 18:37

I hate running and prefer inline skating, which gives me the illusion of speed/ getting places, plus I think it helps my abdominal muscles or what's left of them, and my thighs, more than my pathetic efforts at running ever did. Pilates was a humbling experience for me [bublush].

I seem to come from a long line of women who last well into their late 80s/early 90s, all very wiry and into gardening, so I may have to stretch what I have a long way into the future.

adamschic · 25/04/2011 19:50

Libido? Not sure here as I'm single and still looking, and would love to meet a man who floats my boat but they are few and far between, especially the ones around my age. Done the toy boy thing and it doesn't work for me nowadays, pehaps that is lack of libido. Would hate to think that I will actually give up on wanting a partner when I'm over all this.

AimingForSerenity · 25/04/2011 20:08

Hello all, been lurking and am impressed at how much I've learned from you all! Am now going to take my omega oils at night but am slowly realising that to look glam I need to put more time in on exercise, facial massage thingies, etc.

I am 51 and like many of you are in that betwixt and between stage of periods and things not being quite normal but luckily I haven't reached the full gamut of menopause symptoms yet. I am overweight and have a wattle and a gunt so need to do something but not sure how my asthma would cope with running. Also have a helpful DH like Pag who would drive me mad at the mere suggestion of exercise.

It's a pity thinking about it doesn't work or I'd be a fit size 10!
