Late 40s, menopausal and fading

I haven't as yet submitted to the full beard and elasticated waistband trousers. But heck, it's hard isn't it? I absolutely love clothes, make-up, and all that shit.... but I am becoming more and more interested in my garden (not a euph). Last night I went to the garage to buy milk in my gardening clothes.

Anyone else going through the same thing? Have you any tips you can share?

Ooo coco Envy - you may have to furnish me with gory details of the op.

cocolepew · 25/04/2011 16:16

TVT, they pull everything up with a mesh hammock thingy. Has been great for stress incontinence but not so great for urge incontinence.

Think it makes you a virgin again.

saggarmakersbottomknocker · 25/04/2011 16:20

A virgin? Grin

cocolepew · 25/04/2011 16:28
Wink

The Avon clinical Derma x3 that Cyb was talking about is down from £29 to £16 atm.

noddyholder · 25/04/2011 16:30

I use that its brilliant but must wear block when you have used it the night before

TheGirlWhoIsBootilicious · 25/04/2011 16:30

Okay, I have read the whole thread, at last...

Yeah, I am right there with you women, I am 44 and have been fighting my gradual decline into decrepitude on a daily basis. But it is major WORK to stay slim/look good reasonable, I tell you.

Skipping is great for strengthening testing the pelvic floor Wink My pelvic floor is pretty okay, except when having a completely full bladder and sneezingBlush

Everything in moderation, take care of your knees, I run in these:

for the heavier road runner. They are great and I have found like someone up thread said that once you have strengthened your muscles surrounding and supporting the knee you remove the strain on the knee itself.

Have got more vain the older I get.

I am not willing to give up the fight yet...

foundwanting · 25/04/2011 16:31

Neal's Yard sold me some Rose facial oil for thread veins. It seemed to do something, but the smell is a bit cloying for me. Might be worth a try for those not ready to go for laser treatment yet.

thenightsky · 25/04/2011 16:35

After reading this thread (why didn't I find it before now?) I've just googled the price of botox locally. £170. Not bad i reckon. Am going to get it done, I really reckon I am. I shan't tell anyone, not even DH. Oh apart from you lot of course Grin

LadyCornyOfSilk · 25/04/2011 16:43

I have been googling botox as well but it's very scary - what if they are crap?

noddyholder · 25/04/2011 16:43

Def go to a proper plastic surgeon or dentist

TheGirlWhoIsBootilicious · 25/04/2011 16:43

Okay let me give you that again asics gel foundation

LadyCornyOfSilk · 25/04/2011 16:44

my trainers are asics - I always buy theirs, very comfy

CointreauVersial · 25/04/2011 16:46

To the nervous runners out there - take heart, I seriously did no exercise for the best part of 25 years before starting Couch to 5K.

An interesting side-effect (apart from the obvious buns of steel Grin) is the fact that my niggling back ache (following slipped disc in my twenties) seems to have gone away - I'm sure my core muscles have strengthened as a result of the running.

As with any new exercise programme, take it really easy at the start, make sure you have the right footwear, and ease off if things start to hurt (knees etc).

I have a question for the HRT-ers : Did it do anything to re-awaken a non-existant flagging libido? I would say that is my number one concern at the moment, as DH is in no way slowing down with old age. He'd be perfectly happy with an overweight, crepey DW with the largest gunt in the western world if it meant that he saw some action every once in a while......

cyb · 25/04/2011 16:46

Teeth whitening strips applied

cyb · 25/04/2011 16:47

Should one buy true size in ASics? Hoping for trainers for me birfdee

LadyCornyOfSilk · 25/04/2011 16:49

I get my usual size. Get mine from Sportsworld - dead cheap.
where'd you get the teeth whitening strips from cyb?

CointreauVersial · 25/04/2011 16:50

Don't assume Asics are the mutt's nuts - I tried a pair on in the running shop and they didn't suit my bunion-tastic feet at all.

I ended up with Mizuno shoes, got to test them out on the treadmill and everything! They can then check how your foot strikes the floor and that you have the correct level of support. Find out if your local running shop does gait analysis and try before you buy.

thenightsky · 25/04/2011 16:51

For running you should alway buy at least one size bigger. I'm a 6 and half and always get an 8. You'll end up with black toe nails otherwise if you are doing loads of miles.

TheGirlWhoIsBootilicious · 25/04/2011 16:54

Make sure you get the right kind, do you whether you overpronate or not?

Here: buying trainers Basically if you are 'heavy' or flat footed, intend to run on the road (as opposed to grass) you may need a different type of trainer.

LadyCornyOfSilk · 25/04/2011 16:55

ewwww- black toenails! Will have to look at another pair if I ever go past 5k then

LadyCornyOfSilk · 25/04/2011 16:56

right am ordering those whitestrips!

MrsFlittersnoop · 25/04/2011 16:58

Any experience of / recommendations for menopausal acne please anyone?

Managed to kick a 30 year old nicotine habit 2 months ago whilst simultaneously losing 10lb of gunt avoirdupois for my 50th birthday and was feeling pretty damn pleased with myself until.....

The Acne Attacked! Shock Shock. Dr prescribed a 2 month course of oxytetracycline which one week later seems to be starting to work, but my face is still one hell of a mess. Acne AND wrinkles is just so damn unfair!

Have to assume this is menpoausal shit - periods been AWOL for 6 months now, but doc pretty vague and clueless about it all.

TheGirlWhoIsBootilicious · 25/04/2011 16:59

Have found that running is the only thing that helps me avoid going from mild to moderate depression into moderate to deep depression.

(Peri-)Menopause has affected my libido, I go from having the raging hormones of a teenager to being dead from the waist down. I hope that post menopausal I will continue to have the libido of a teenager rather than the dead from the waist down Grin but guessing on my luck I wouldn't count on it.

Swedes2 · 25/04/2011 16:59

Bibbity - "Swedey - what's with the being Austrian and not liking to talk about matters medical thing? Not heard of that before."

Oh no quite the reverse. He would be insisting I visit Herr Doktor at least weekly. Grin Grin

Gosh you have to use that Tua T'rend for 20 mins 3 times a week, what with that, eyelash tinting, massages, the odd facial, frequent trips to the colourist, I might not have time to eat.
