How do you manage not to touch your "holiday clothes"

Is it just me that buys things for holidays and has them hanging up for weeks in advance? Ive got three dresses and I could do to wear one of them this weekend but, I cant bring myself to. Why do we buy clothes for holidays?

I just take my normal clothes on holiday, but then I look nice and make an effort when I am here and abroad!

sausagerollmodel · 21/04/2011 13:51

OP - I know what you mean about keeping holiday clothes separate, you want to keep them nice for your holiday. nothing wrong with that!

I wouldn't take brand new thigns on holiday though, always like to wear them in a bit first. Also make sure they fit properly, sometimes strappy tops need taking up a bit etc.

I decide what to take on hols about weeks before and put them on one side to make sure they are clean when I pack. Of course I can't pack so far ahead because they will get creased. So I have to leave them hanging on the back of a door somewhere. Sometimes I want to wear them but that woudl mean washing them all over again so I just keep them as my "holiday" clothes Hmm.

oh you are rather working class with your holiday clothes tbh

sausagerollmodel · 21/04/2011 13:56

I like them to be worn in but still new looking if you see what I mean!

kittya · 21/04/2011 14:05

Yes forlorn, my background is terribly working class and I'm bloody proud of it!! It's a ritual that's been handed down to me, it can't be helped. It makes the holiday more special somehow

When you get back from holidays are you then allowed to wear them? Or must they be saved for next holiday?

I use all the same every day stuff and I've had my swim suits for years. It's evening wear I tend to buy new and, maybe sandals and, of course, a pack of five M and S knickers.

I don't understand why you would buy things that you would only wear on holiday rather than in your normal day to day life. That is er, a bit strange.

Meggles76 · 21/04/2011 15:26

Kittya I grew up in the North and my mum would definitely agree with you. We used to get new under wear and clothes that were 'saved' until or main holiday abroad in the summer.

I must admit that its a tradition I haven't kept up Smile

FolornHope · 21/04/2011 15:34

I've said a thousand times, I wear it all the time when I get back!! Did you ever get a new dress to wear for Xmas or Easter and wasn't allowed to wear it until that day so that it was special? It's the same priciple surely? I know I'm a nutter.......

Why do you wait though? Even if you wore them a few times they wopuld still be new and not have that funny 'new' look and feel. I like to be comfortable on holiday am def a bikini and sarong girl with harems and tunics(old soft ones)
