blog time

can you post your tales of SS10 fashion woe and waste in the comments section, underneath the main text, lovelies?

roary · 08/10/2010 10:24

LTEC have posted!

I am sooo tired - two nights out in a row. Work function: magenta DVF from Bicester village, unlinkable. Dinner at Nut Tree Murcott (reasonably priced Michelin one star, yay) - FCUK birdie dress, coral cardigan, grey tights, new brogues, as styled by Fleecy, LTEC and Notyummy. But it is incapacitating to have two nights out, especially when the second involves a wine tasting menu alongside the regular one. It was very nice to have two grown-up nights out though, I'm at the juncture of my maternity leave that I find difficult (6 months, weaning, not sleeping getting a bit tiresome).

Was it Plum who wore teal socks with crops and brogues? Am debating my spotty socks with rolled up Roxannes or just nude knee highs...

Why have I only just discovered IO regular clothes? I love their jacket but it is sold out.

Esher hope you are not too stressed. Everyone else hope you are well. Still thinking yay for Carciofi.

aStarInStrangeways · 08/10/2010 10:44

Cake those trousers are amazing. I am intrigued but unsure re. pegs as I am a short, muscular-thighed size 12, but they will look great on you.

Lots of thoughts for you and your friends yesterday, and today.

rufus lovely blouse. There's a A Wear store in my local shopping centre and I will be in the vicinity today, so I might pop in and see how it looks for real. I need leopard print.

esher sorry to hear of such a stressful day. Eye stuff is scary, but I bet you will sail through the op :)

hf128219 · 08/10/2010 10:52

As a few of you Ladies will be in town on Saturday 16 October Brora Clearance sale is on

aStarInStrangeways · 08/10/2010 10:52

an A Wear store Blush Work head fail.

eshermummy · 08/10/2010 11:05

Just popping on very quickly to say - thank you all for nice messages Smile
I have however realised that my post containing medical details makes me too identifiable in rl so have asked MNHQ to delete.
Rushing off as have to take dd2 to a hosp appt this arvo (am a bit sick of hospitals at the mo tbh) but it is nothing serious Smile

reallygrumpy · 08/10/2010 11:05

esher so sorry to hear about your stressful day yesterday and that you need an op. This may be one of those situations when it's best not to google too much (as I found out in the summer), the desire to be well-informed can lead you to websites with mis-information or other people's horror stories. Take care of yourself.

carciofi- huge congrats, am v Envy

LTEC loved the blog (as usual) and it made me think that I was quite pleased with my SS10 purchases and that what I usually regret is not the things I buy but the things I don't buy and the looks I don't try for fear of looking mutton, stupid etc and then end up looking dull middle of the road 30something mum. However, this thread has been fab for encouraging me to be a bit more adventurous and try different looks.

OllieWollieWoo · 08/10/2010 11:06

Running in - just popped in H&M and tried this lovely blouse on shop.hm.com/gb/shoppingwindow?dept=DAM_SKJ_BLU&shoptype=S - much nicer in RL - lovely blue colour with birds on. Quite short in length tho - needed a bigger size (shame emoticon!!) so will look for it again next week.

Also thought this looked a good cheap buy for the party season (OWW scoffs at the thought of ever having a party season again but can dream!) here

Did buy a nice thin knit grey marl poncho with a roll neck - even tho it had the thumbs down from DS1 - his way of rating my clothes - thumbs up, down or sideways if its just ok!

OllieWollieWoo · 08/10/2010 11:17

Roary - I love the sound of the way you have styled your birdie dress. Any chance of a power nape this afternoon to help you reover?! Great you can wear it into A/W. (Just read your comment on LTEC's lovely blog - what size is your WC maxi - asked innocently whilst whistling with eyes skyward!)

Esher - can only echo what the others have said - both my grandparents and FIL have had the op on both eyes and were much better off for it. Know that doesnt take away any of the worry beforehand tho.

Its the drinks party of the parents from DS1's class tonight - I've helped organise it as Class Mum and have to make lots of nibbles! Will rope DS1 in (day off school for teacher training) to help roll salami circles and stab with a cocktail stick! What to wear tho????

monkeysmama · 08/10/2010 11:20

Hey

Carciofi what lovely news - un Carciofino!

Esher I was really sorry to hear your news. Sending you an un-MN hug.

Hells your post about the bra and thinking of me made me smile (can you link to it when you get a chance?) I was a bit Blush when dp asked why I was so irritated not to get an Internet connection on my laptop while in Italy & I had to admit I'd rushed back with my purchases and wanted to share them with my A&W friends on line.

I am really irritated with myself for not getting the blue-black Belstaff boots which were about £100 cheaper in Italy. I went through my wardrobe "putting together" outfits yesterday to try and convince myself I don't need them but they've well & truly lodged themselves in my thoughts. They are so beautiful and would look perfect with my new navy cashmere dress but if the boots over jeans look is coming to an end I'd get nowhere near as much wear from them as they price would require. We will see.

I've been following the brogue debate with interest. I purchased a pair of patenty dark grey ones (I usually loathe patent but they're shiny rather than patent really) and wore them a few times with Marthas but when I look back at the photos I look very unbalanced clothing wise. I tried them on with a few things yesterday and I like them, just not on me. So I am coming to the conclusion that rather than a pair of long black boots, I actually need something to wear under trousers. I have three pairs of pegs and nothing to wear on my feet with them. I've been looking at these Ash boots for a while but am not sure they fit the brief of fitting under a narrow peg leg.

I also realised when looking at my wardrobe yesterday, I have to stop shopping for the life I had. Clog boots I can hardly walk in? Short beautiful wool dresses I can't bend down in? Not great for sahm. It makes me angry when I see mums too dressed up to play with their LOs. Good news is I've been a lot more wise recently and my All Saints jacket goes with everything as do the Belstaff boots Grin.

Am awaiting deliveries from Zara, Uniqlo, H&M and M&S today! Have ordered ££ of cashmere from Uniqlo to try on and chose a few bits. Also ordered this Zara maxi and this which I've had my eye on for a while though expect they'll both go back as I'd have no idea what footwear to wear. I am also waiting for that Mango shirt to arrive Cakey I saw it in Grazia ages ago and forgot to order so thanks for reminding me Grin.

Despite it being very un-Italian, I am not a big fan of dressing dd up; she prefers to be "nuda" as often as possible and I tend to get her a lot of bright Scandinavian dresses and leggings. When we go back to Italy though I make a lot of effort and dd looked so cute in these wonderful Zara trousers with a grey roll neck, grey cardigan and these cute Ecco boots. I have extended my A&W-ery to her wardrobe this season and have limited it to 4 colours so everything will go together. She of course only wants to wear her grey marl Barbapapa tracksuit from H&M Hmm.

Off to post on your blog Cakey. Rufus I tried everything to get that dress this summer! I ended up getting one for a fraction of the price from a shop locally and wore it loads on holiday.

Sorry for the long post!

aStarInStrangeways · 08/10/2010 11:29

That's a good point about dressing for the life you have now monkeysmama; it's something I'm trying to consider, but from the other side. I work pt and have no problem dressing accordingly there, but my days at home with DS have slipped into a tedious drab of ill-fitting jeans and plain vests, which makes me feel like Superfrump.

This is what prompted my wardrobe audit, actually - I realised that it is possible to dress practically for parenting toddlers without being a complete loser, and am resolved to find the clothes to do so Grin Jeans don't have to ride down every time you bend over, and tops don't have to be plain (and too short Angry - how I hate the constant waistline plucking).

DTI10 · 08/10/2010 11:40

Romanarama

Please can you describe your trench? Does it come in Navy blue......?

AllBuggiedOut · 08/10/2010 12:12
blossoming · 08/10/2010 12:54

dt110, I knew I'd seen one somewhere, tweed navy whistles trench
why not purple?
this one's navy, and reduced to clear!, but only size 14 left.
this is lovely £89! Very tempting indeed, and single breasted, makes a change.
Hope that helps.
I'm on the lookout myself, so was doing the research anyway. I'd love a raspberry coloured one, but the selection out there is quite dull right now.

Off to read LTEC's blog.

OllieWollieWoo · 08/10/2010 13:08

Blossoming - just seen your post. I'm not a fan of velvet coats but but I've seen this and its a lovley colour:
here My friend has the cheerful jacket and it really suits her.
dt110 - I like the Hobbs one Blossoming linked to and thought the M&S single breasted one via LTEC's ShopStyle was ok too? here

OllieWollieWoo · 08/10/2010 13:10

Chocolate Cake Fans - I tasted this the other evening and it has to be one of the nicest chocolate cakes I have ever eaten - skim over the list of ingredients tho esp the butter weight! we love Nigella

roary · 08/10/2010 13:19

Have been keeping my eye out for the gap houli-likeys. They are in but selling out, here

carciofi · 08/10/2010 13:25

Hey, thanks again! It is sinking in now. Think we will have to move from this area to somewhere more affordable but we would have had to eventually anyway.

ABO, sorry about your husband's job.

Rufus, do you remember when A Wear was called Gaywear?!

Blossoming, would you mind emailing me at [email protected] please? I don't know why my message didn't go through. Blush

Esher, hope you are ok.

EIE, the Boden top is long enough in length and I liked the drapey neckline. Give it a go!

Roma, Envy of the Burberry trench, I think I will buy one next autumn!

hellsbelles · 08/10/2010 13:26

I love her too OWW - her chocolate cloud cake is the most requested cake in this house. Though I am most certainly going to be watching Mr Oliver next week if only to admire the surely perfect camera work Wink

MM - I have those Ash boots in a greyish tone and I find them very comfortable and good with skinnies. I'm sorry forgot to check Bra and now not at home! Will do asap. Your words on dressing for the life you have are so so relevant to me also. I get seduced by the gorgeous glamourous stuff and really have very little chance to wear it. I'm determined to spend my money more wisely this season...on things I wear every day.

On which note - Roman - you deserve and will enjoy the trench and barbour. I just bought the barbour and while it doesn't make my sartorial heart sing - it DOES keep me dryer than any other more stylish option I have.

Esher - I didn't get to see your message but have pieced together what you must be facing? So so sorry.

Marsha - yes - it does change your body in a graceful sort of way. My arms are properly slim which is lovely. Weirdly my calves always are thin no matter how fat big I get! But the arms thing is lovely.

ABO - love that dress!

LTEC - meant to say - on the flappiness...I suspect it is a coat I'll wear to work....so sans DC flappiness doesn't bother as I usually have both hands free (for once!)...anyway shall report back...I'm avidly waiting for the see by chloe report. I am very very tempted. I have surprised myself by really liking this look. luckily all unavailable in my size so not even tempted to just 'try it on'.

O.k...off to read LTEC's blog and Zembo thanks for the tip - shall go check it out.

blossoming · 08/10/2010 13:30

Ooh, well done ollie! I'm in Chester tomorrow (again), and will pop in to White Stuff. Although, like you, I'm not a big fan of velvet coats. Worth a look though.

I couldn't see your H&M links btw.
Have fun tonight!
(Defiantly not opening your Nigella link, although dh got me the book for my birthday).

ltec, have read your blog, and finally worked out how to leave a comment..

OllieWollieWoo · 08/10/2010 13:39

Good luck with the coat Blossoming! Re leaving comment on LTEC blog - which Profile did you choose - I got confused!
Hells - just added that cake to my list to try. Sounds a bit cupcakes and bunting but our Book Club is going to have a Nigella Pot Luck Supper one evening - think everyone will turn up with cakes!
The H&M links were here - second page of blouses, first blouse and green dress on page 3

blossoming · 08/10/2010 13:54

Have emailed you carciofi

ollie, I chose Google, then created an account with them when prompted. Very easy really, but hadn't realised it before! Like the sound of the pot luck supper, I've said it before, you sound like you have a lovely social life.

I think I'm going to sell my lily & lionel scarf. I bought it before I had my colours done. Bright colours look so much better on me.

Zembo · 08/10/2010 13:57

Roman well done on the trench and just think cost per wear. Would love to see a link. You totally deserve it with all that work you're doing.

I like reading Nigella cookery books [saddo emoticon] and have made a fair number of her recipes but not the chocolate cloud cake Hells so MUST give it a go.

blossoming · 08/10/2010 13:58

Like both those ollie. Oh for an opportunity to wear a dress like the green one! Right, I'm off to do something constructive.

hellsbelles · 08/10/2010 14:05

it's very low fat - honest gov Wink

Oh bloss - I feel the same. It's a beautiful scarf - it really is - but the colours just don't work for me.
