thanks Fleecy Smile

OWW I am not much help I am afraid. I found a book called Empty Cradle, Broken Heart very useful to me when I lost dd1, and almost bought it for my friend who's baby has just died. But something is stopping me. I think I am going to hold off for a bit, maybe until she asks me something along the lines of "what did you do? how did you cope/ what helped?"

you sound like an amazing friend and I am sure you;ll do the right thing.

OllieWollieWoo · 27/09/2010 21:47

This is what I love about this thread - such sound advice on all life matters. You lot have such a good way of expressing stuff. Will see how friend is on her return here. We share a lot so just giving her time to talk will be of help to her. The book can come later if I think it will help her.

Zembo · 27/09/2010 21:56

OWW so sorry to hear your news. Totally agree with Cake that the book would probably be appreciated more when things have settled down a bit esp as it's all happened over such a short timescale Sad. I turn to books in times of personal crisis too.

That duffle cardigan lookes v cosy Fleecy

Cake families are just too complicated! I wouldn't brave going into the details of mine on MN. I've never met my MIL though and from what I've gleaned I'm (and more importantly my kids are) not missing much Smile

rufus101 · 27/09/2010 22:01

The title of that book Cake is making me feel emotional.

On a more shallow note, I have just purchased the Frye boots, so I will now SHUT UP about the blardy yokes. (Until they arrive) Have plumped for an American 7, which seems to be a European 37 to 37 and 1/2, so should be grand.

Carciofi hope you had a great night Saturday. It was funny, I got such a kick out of knowing I had a cyber buddy, dancing the night away literally 5 minutes away! Am very Envy of your friend with the DVF freebies. I love a nice DVF I do.

Zembo · 27/09/2010 22:01

Dolce hope you've sorted our your 'allowance' with your DH now. It's not v British to talk about money is it? I'm very open about such things perhaps due to my non-Brit heritage.

Oh and Cake loving the outdoor party vibe Grin - well done on transporting not one, but two cakes intact!

Fleecy · 27/09/2010 22:08

yay rufus I love Frye boots!

traceybath · 27/09/2010 22:10

OWW - how sad for your friend and her family Sad

LTEC - lordy lady - you are so not mad grazia woman! I doubt she would make cakes - because she'd be too busy gazing at her beauty in the mixer/scales/any other reflective surface in kitchen and lamenting her lack of female friends Wink

Marsha - DD used to have a bottle of hipp organic goodnight milk at bedtime. I actually stopped the bedtime feed first just because selfishly it gave me a little more flexibility - did take a further 4 months to stop feeding totally though. Tis funny though as arthur keeps 'feeding' Bea's dolls - up goes his jumper and on goes the doll Grin MIL visiting this weekend and I know she'll find that very odd Grin

Zembo - blimey you do work very long hours!

Fleecy - glad you had a lovely holiday - fab photos.

Bloss and Yangy - looking good Grin

Blimey - I've come over all Esher with my emoticon usage. Must be the after-effects of the lovely Lucas in Spooks.

Yangymac,LTEC, Marsha, Blossoming, gorgeous kids. And mothers too, of course.

Yangymac, sorry you had a bad day.

Rufus, I had a great night thanks, and ended up in Findlaters, I am still recovering! I dropped a few hints about DVF dresses in case there were any going spare but no. :) Love the Fryes, I have the campus boots. I take a US 9 in Fryes and a UK7.

I think leopard print is never out and also have the leopard Boden belt, it's very nice.

Libra, happy birthday!

OWW, so sorry about your friend's mother. Someone gave me a book when my mother died and I threw it straight in the bin but that was probably because the giver (dh's aunt) annoyed me with other comments. You sound like a very thoughtful friend, you must be a great support.

I ordered the leather Uggs, they were supposed to be delivered today but no sign, rang customer services and they gave me a £30 voucher to apologise, pretty good I thought!

LetThemEatCake · 27/09/2010 22:25

goodness no yangy not you!! not anyone really. Just me being wary

but thank you Smile

and you too tracey Wink

PlumSykes · 27/09/2010 22:25

Brr, 'tis cold tonight here.

Just watched Spooks-find it so exciting, my only must-watch TV.

Have spent rest of evening Facebooking, and updating blog. Will call in here properly when less shivery tomorrow.

Though I will say, rufus, I like both pairs of boots a lot, but implore you to check how heavy the Fryes are. I have two apirs, and it wasn't until I recently bought some KG boots that I realised how heavy the Fryes are. Really make my legs tired

OWW, I wonder whether the greif book might be a better gift in a few days time. While all is still so raw, an uncomplicated novel and some biscuits might be better. My ideal cure-all is a few chapters of Nancy Mitford, a strong cup of tea and two digestives.

And Cake, your SIL's issue sounds weird. How can she feel usurped by you? You haven't taken her place, you married her bro, not her husband. Silly woman. My SIL loathes me, though with slightly more reason. She is married to DH's brother and knows that we are the 'preferred' couple, with the nice breastfed children, the SAHM and the successful professional. By contrast, she and her DH smoke, live on processed food, keep 'accidentally' having another baby, and generally don't make MIL very proud. I can see why MIl prefers to hang out with us, but can also totally see why SIL resents it, and can hardly bring herself to look at me. Luckily we live far far away, so is not much of an issue. Families, eh?

Bloss Looking good indeed!

Libra Happy Birthday! Friends have Sofa Workshop and they are nice as well. It's such a minefield - too much choice these days!

OWW Do what you think is right for your friend - you will know best. How very sad Sad

Love shorts and tights on little girls - I saw some nice cord ones in Gap today.

Tracey Lucas indeed!

Back on a W&A note for a sec... My river island skinny khakis are now too big... Am not convinced that I will go further down the khaki route as maybe we've had our moment, me and utility, BUT if I were to want a houlilike wwy suggest? Know there's been a few suggested on here before.

Also it has come to my attention that I lack a good black mid heel. Court I guess? Suggestions?

Right must sleep. Baby L been sick again, bracing for broken night. Sleep tight, all

Romanarama · 28/09/2010 06:09

Hello everyone, I'm on eurostar to London where I'll walk past loads of closed shops that there'll be no time to go in later:(

I don't think your sil sounds weird cake, but sad. I'm worried ds2 has something of that personality. He can't bear anyone else's success, he's so jealous and insecure. I hope I can do something to help him be in a place to make good choices later.

Yangy lol at your dh's 3 wives! (16.49)

I am wearing Boden, and duo boots! Do I get thrown out? Theory leather trench though, if that compensates......

Romanarama · 28/09/2010 06:15

I want a black mid heel too. Must be comfy enough to wear 6am-10pm on Tuesdays with no more than mild pain.

Btw went through some things with ap, who as usual was all sunshine and smiles once vertical..... Well until I reduced her to gibbering tearful wreck anyway. She's ok to stay until I work out an alternative - she's really very savvy and intelligent, and the kids love her, but I've no time for her issues on top of ours.

blossoming · 28/09/2010 06:37

ollie, meant to say that I have Mac eyeliner in Blooz; a really dark navy and I wear waterproof mascara every day. It comes off straight away with Lancome Bi-facil eye make up remover for sensitive eyes. Not cheap, but wins every year in the InStyle beauty awards.
(Waving madly) at romanarama on the train..
Have a good day everyone.

OllieWollieWoo · 28/09/2010 07:30

Morning All. Thats for all your thoughts - will buy book and keep for if and when the time is right.

Ta for the make up remover tips too - will investigate on next trip to the shops.

Its DH's bday on Sunday and so far all I have for him is a CD. He wants a new tie for the wedding and .....some wellies for mucking about in the garden. He always says he has enough jumpers and shirts but will see if I can get a new one for him anyway. I always feel a bit guilty about the time and effort I used to put into presents for him compared to now. My favourite was getting some black and white photos of his Grandads bicycle shop re-printed and framed. Next year is the big 40 tho and I will plan something extra special......!

Hope you all have a good day.

FritziGreenEyes · 28/09/2010 07:37

yangymac your DDs are so cute and you look fantastic too!

blossoming loved your holiday snaps. You look gorgeous and happy. As do your DCs!

cake wow at the birthday cakes! Is there a book with recipes/instructions you use? Maybe I could do a fabulous cake for DH's birthday in November Grin...

ollie sorry to hear about your friend's mum. I'm sure it means a lot to her that you are there for her and listening. Second Lancome eye make-up remover.

Had already packed capsule wardrobes for DD and myself yesterday. This morning DH announced that some meetings have been rescheduled and he will come with us tomorrow. Which is great of course but there will be no light travelling with hand luggage as he needs to take suit/ties/shirts/work shoes plus laptop. In case he has to "pop into the office" Hmm.

MarshaBrady · 28/09/2010 08:01

Ollie I am sorry about your friend. I think you sound lovely and very supportive (either way re book).

I would like a really big scarf, preferably bright. Wool or cashmere. So if you see one on your online travels let me know.

Fritzi have added you Smile

MarshaBrady · 28/09/2010 08:03

that was ro everyone re scarf!

FritziGreenEyes · 28/09/2010 08:07

marsha sooo cute! Thanks for sharing your photos everyone. Will add some more too as soon as I have time to see how to do it without everyone on MN seeing them.

notyummy · 28/09/2010 08:09

OWW-so sorry to hear about your friend and glad you have got some good advice on here.

Libra- Happy birthday for yesterday!

Well, I am majorly hacked off. Have been stuck a mile from work for the last half an hour with a flat tyre. Currently waiting for RAC. This on top of a leak coming through our lounge ceiling yesterday. Sometimes this long commute and DH being away nearly all the time does start to get a bit much. Have to leave work early today to let plumber in, and will now be in late because of car. And we only have a space saver tyre thing, so I will have to find the time to get to a garage at some point in the next 24 hours to get a new tyre. Aaaarrggghh.
