Marsha - am also a 'keeper' (up to a point!) I have a pure new wool black jacket that I wear a LOT to work. From M and S in 1993! It cost £120 then, which was a LOT of money for me at the time. Come to think of it, I don't think there are many woman's clothes in there now that cost that much. It is beautifully cut and the creases drop out of instantly. Shoulder pads date it slightly - but then, as of about 18 months ago they were back!

vinvinoveritas · 04/10/2010 13:26

oh yay Grin

yangy I must say that paige sizing is a bit peculiar, so a 27 plus stretch is more like a small UK 12 (too big?)

My oldest thing is a fab black coat that my mum bought in 1968 and handed down to me. It's the perfect length for mini dresses and a lovely shape.

The oldest things I wear that I bought... hmm... a pair of white Converse from 1995 and a grey cashmere rollneck from 1998.

MarshaBrady · 04/10/2010 13:29

Ohh NY, '93.. Well done!

I kept this stuff as it was the first time I had spare money as a student and had that buzz from spending a lot on something...

hellsbelles · 04/10/2010 13:30

vino - what a wonderful list! I better not do any hands up as I'm too avid as it is.

LTEC - jeans sizing. i too was recently a 29 and have now the same problem. I think staying with the bigger size does make you look larger but can't stand tight waist band. So I get 27 or 28 (depending on brand) and always end up with low or mid rise jeans to avoid tummy issue.

It's so weird that many of my previous 'skinny' clothes (the failsafes that covered flab) now make me look much bigger than they did when I was actually bigger. Phew...needed some punctuation in there somewhere didn't I?

NY - the wedding you are going to sounds fabulous! So we have till March to find you a knock out outfit.

Bloss - DC1 loves flourless choc cake too. That is his constant request for birthdays.

I'm very envious of all these libraries. I have yet to find a decent one in my area. A friend signed me up for one in westminster so I must venture further out.

As far as days out/entertaining the kids. I'm in awe of those that do...and used to with DS...because we would both have gone insane if I didn't (he is mr hyper if kept indoors)...however with DD it's a different ballgame. We venture to the park once a day but other than that she is very happy pottering around and helping me with stuff...so that's what we do.

I have some trousers I bought when I was 15. I've never worn them, but I love them and I have kept them [weirdo]
otherwise, hmm, I guess a skirt from yr 2000 is my oldest thing

will be back later with email add. (more anon this time!)

vinvinoveritas · 04/10/2010 13:33

zara 10s are tts, smaller than most shops though

eshermummy · 04/10/2010 13:49

Wow I love that blog with the gold brogues Yangy.
Marsha - I really want some too now.
I love what she's wearing in her blog - she's even featured the Day Birger lace dress I linked to a while back .....albeit as fancy dress or something Confused

Yangy, if Vino's Zara trews are too big for you could you pass them my way please. I am on the lookout for some pegs. Am an 8-10 on bottom half but normally size up a bit in Zara for trousers and get a 38 - is that what these are Vino?

BTW, Outnet jeans package arrived (and was actually ELEVEN pairs!!!). Preliminary tryings-on have suggested 1 def pair of keepers and 1 possible Wink

Dolcee - someone linked to some really nice Ugg bikers on another thread that I thought looked great and v toasty. I also really liked Hells £££ Day Birger pair.

happilyeverafter · 04/10/2010 13:57

Excellent blog yangy, I look that her look is so wearable yet cool. She is wearing my FC courts in the first photo how I hope to if the IO pegs are nice.

notyummy I order from our library(40p), I snap pictures of book covers on my iphone when shopping and the librarian orders them in for me. Can't do it online but in there most weeks. Nearly always get a brand new book too. I love that I don't end up with a houseful of novels.

everything that site has some nice frames. I think I want the ray ban ones though and just wanted some general opinions on the whole geek-chic look.

bloss that sounds like a very happy lunch indeed.

marsha I am feeling that gold brogue urge also!

I don't really have anything pre 2000 marsha. My oldest item would prob be a pair of Patrick Cox Wannabe high heeled pointed toe black snakeskin loafers. Worn once and they made my feet bleed! I have a few suits from 2000/2001 that are still rolled out now and then also.

cake and hells I am having jeans difficulties too. Mine are so huge on waist am belting them in and getting multiple folds but smaller size feel sprayed on thighs. I blame cycling for my muscular legs! I tried on loads yesterday in John Lewis but got too hot so gave up.

I think multiple ordering in the style of esher is on the cards but having a blast this week to lose a few pounds so will wait a few weeks first.

Biker boots - looked at all those rec, but not right...want narrowish, in black with silver/black buckles ...thanks...

Magenta cashmere sounds good Cake. What is it? Dress or sweater?

LetThemEatCake · 04/10/2010 14:46

loads looked good yangy but was just a quick squizz, had all 3 dc post-gym kids' gym sesh and racing to get home and give them dinner-style lunch as have birthday tea this arvo so they'll not have a proper dinner .. the magenta just popped out at me! did see some lovely cobweb-y knit scarves through (maybe crochet? dunno), also a fab Austrian riding-style jacket...

It's a sweater, dolce .. I wish it were a dress .. now there's something I don't have for this AW yet, a sweater dress .. hmm

DolceeBanana · 04/10/2010 15:08

Fab...need a knitted dress/sweatery type thing too....mabe 2 of them, a sort of throw on day dress to wear with the elusive flat biker boots...

My dd looks lovely today in a stripy grey/navy boden dress that she'd previously refused to wear. She's a slim thing but this seems to accentuate her little tummy which I love and teamed with her new navy wellies she is now 'fishing' from the veranda of her wendy house. Too cute!

I'm wearing a navy Whistles tee with a fine knit grey oversized FC cardi, mid blue slim fit Great Plains jeans, navy suede Clarks pumps and a huge multi stranded gold necklace. Added a grey check All Saints scarf for school drop off/pickup but unintentially DD and I were very matchy matchy.

I'm also looking for flat bikers Dolcee but want cheapie ones really, keep meaning to check out Primark but I always wimp out when I get into store and it's so dratted busy!

happilyeverafter · 04/10/2010 15:42

yangy I like that cardi but it looks quite short in the length, otherwise can see it being really versatile.

LetThemEatCake · 04/10/2010 15:50

2 things:

  1. just had pasta (gluten free) for the first time in months Was delish. Love it when 'normal' food become a treat, that's when you really know that you're on the path of dietary excellence Grin
  1. Does anyone else find it incredibly galling when an employer asks you for a frantic last-minute favour, you bust your guts to get it done and they don't even acknowledge that they've got it??? grrrrrr.

off to party now, wearing mushroomy Falke tights, brown short bikers, brown tweed tulip skirt with big slouchy pockets .... and new magenta cashmere Wink

have fab afternoons all

Gosh NY I remember when you linked to a photo of that guy! I'm sure there will be lots of fashion agony moments between now and March. Never fear, we will not let you down. (Well I'm sure the others will come up with marvellous suggetions!)

Happily I am the same in Primark. I get overwhelmed. I bought a lovely pair of embellished sandals there pre summer, but they literally fell apart after a few weeks.

I have had 2 very strange calls to my land line. Both foreign callers from so called Windows support, saying they wanted to check my pc was working properly. (Or some such BS) The first asked me to turn on my computer "now" so that he could "check it". Told him, it was fine, and not to call again. But 2 days later got a call from someone else about the same. They had my name as well. Was wondering if anyone had heard of this as a scam?
