Oh NY I haven't seen it but spluttered with giggles reading your post.

I tried on shorts today in Primarni. My poor bottom looked huge-mungous.

Speaking of things working on non-models. I really fancy some geek style glasses which seem to be everywhere atm. They would need to be prescription ones as am a speccy sort.

I've found a few places that put clear prescription lenses in ray ban wayfarers which is the shape I'm aiming for. Does this sound daft - DH thinks is silly look. This makes me want it more Grin

I need some new glasses as mine are years old and these price up at a fraction of the cost of my usual specs.

fleecy Well done indeed on the recital.

notyummy I bought those very boots last week in the brown - I think they are very 'practical' - and nice looking!

LTEC Glad you had a good night. A wise girl should always carry a plastic bag to use as a hat in rain!

I thought of you Esher today as we went to the Claremont Garden - got as far as the car park and realised it was far too wet for a walk. Ended up in the Brooklands M&S instead!

Roman I agree walks and Ikea are not bad things at all. Just part of everyday life. Try not to beat youself up too much.

mrsjuan · 03/10/2010 20:19

Evening all, sorry - have been awol for a week or so - busy with RL & on a bit of a downer so not had time to keep up with all you lovely ladies. Must try harder!

Looking forward to spending a while catching up on the links over the next few days - ironing, wine and x factor tonight Smile

Zembo · 03/10/2010 20:31

Just popping in to say Esher the barbour cameron is slim fitting and perfect for the current weather, agree with Bloss though that it's prob not a true winter coat. I always forget what winter's like when we're not in the depths of it. Also I wore my Belstaffs again today (to a 5 yr olds birthday party Smile) - wore over my new J Brand skinnies. I'm pleased to say I think I'll get my moneys worth out of them.

Roman really feel for you, I find working just part-time a killer! I'm sure your DC are having a fab childhood. There's so much pressure on everyone to do 'things' these days - I think there's a lot to be said for just doing normal things together.

LTEC re: those super-studded boots - I'm sure they look utterly fabulous on you. They're not for me (but that's not the point is it?), you is one cool chick, I on the other hand am not!

eshermummy · 03/10/2010 20:36

Hf - that is very funny as we were in M&S Brooklands today too! Only popped briefly into clothing though and did big M&S food shop - yum!!
(You weren't the nice lady who overheard me saying my house was a tip were you and sympathised Shock)

notyummy · 03/10/2010 20:38

Mmmm, looking at Marie Claire site to try and find pic of afore mentioned ridiculous shorts for you all when I came across an article on winter maxis. Anyone who knows me will know how dangerous that is! I like

this

and this.

notyummy · 03/10/2010 20:42

OK, found the shorts. Remember, in the link below they are being worn by a 5ft 11, size 6 model - who is wearing huge heels. And I still think they look silly. Poor girl in MC is pretty, probably a 10 at the most, but is also wearing huge baggy top. Not good...

Why??

big shiney velour velvet shorts.

happilyeverafter · 03/10/2010 20:44

They are u-g-l-y!

Can't see it working. Although I was Hmm at some trousers in miss selfridge today and thinking how horrific they'd look on then later on saw a girl rocking out some (or some very similar) and looking great.

hf128219 · 03/10/2010 20:45

Esher Spooky as we did a big food shop too! Just checked the till receipt - we paid at 12.47.

I didn't speak to anyone though so don't worry!

eshermummy · 03/10/2010 20:45

Also Roman, I am a SAHM and my kids have done nothing more exciting then watch TV, go to church and to M&S food this weekend. I'm blaming the weather Wink

Zembo - thanks for the info on the Cameron. I keep thinking that I need something to cope with this truly awful weather, am not so fussed about its winter snugness as is set to be 17C here tomorrow........but still bloody raining Sad

MrsJ - hope you are feeling better about whatever it is. I personally find a little shop to be a real pick-me-up!!!Grin

Cake - it rained so much here last night (our garden is still flooded) - I really didn't envy you being out in that!
What was that pub you went to like btw. Our old stamping ground was N London and I have a slight horror of SW London but it's now the bit of the Metropolis within nearest reach of us........describe general vibe please Grin

eshermummy · 03/10/2010 20:47

Super spooky Hf as I looked at my watch when we got back into the car and it was 1pm!!!

hf128219 · 03/10/2010 20:57

Indeedy!!! I was looking bedraggled in a wet Barbour and black trousers and boots with dh and dd. DD is 2.8 and has long very, very blonde hair!

LetThemEatCake · 03/10/2010 20:59

argh, I really have to work tonight so will try, try to be brief.

MrsJ lovely girl, are you okay? hope you feel brighter after a spot of ironing and hope you have the wine on the go at the same time!

esher I'm so sorry but I really didn't pay any attention to the pub at all. Having left the house at 7.45 and arrived at 10pm, I was just so sodden and relieved to see my friends. Really couldn't even tell you what anyone was wearing Shock although I did see some sights on the train Hmm

This is where the £15 boots really come into their own as I would have been so fine with them getting trashed (they are still wet btw) To think I nearly wore my new bootees!!! Shock

what did you think of the Primark ones btw esher? Like better than the deth metal stud ones?

NY or anyone else wanting a pair of winter shorts, I have a pair, free to a good home, Boden size 10R, grey wool, knee length. Let me know.

Right now: jeans question. I am having ishoos with jeans sizing. Am currently wearing 29s and finding that they are too big, falling down, taking my knicks with them, sagging around the hips and bum and doing that annoying thing of making me look bigger. So what's the consensus, should jeans be tight to be flattering and hold you in (skinny & straight leg styles I mean) And if I go a 27-28, will i have the pear problem? Experiences and advice welcome!!

God, tracey am really thinking of you, don't know how you do it. I would have wielded kitchen implements by now. With intent.

I love the Wedding Singer!! DH sang me that song on his guitar in a crowded restaurant in Lichenstein way back on NYE 2000/2001 or something

eshermummy · 03/10/2010 21:03

Well, we had come straight from church and it wasn't raining when we left the house so I was wearing short flippy blue/green tartan skirt with short black leather jacket, grey scarf and black knee high boots. I was with DH and the DD's, DD1 is 5.5 and has long hair and glasses, DD2 is 3.5 (but weeny) with a short dark bob.
I have to say, DH and I had been arguing were both in a grump with eachother so it wasn't the most fun outing we've had recently and we both looked pretty miserable Grin.

hf128219 · 03/10/2010 21:10

Esher You paid at the end tills towards the bakery bit?? OMG - I did see you - dh tall and dark? Your 2 girls sat on the seat bit by the window as you paid etc?

I remember thinking they were very sweet girls!

My dd was sitting on the same bit of seating to their right.

This is some coincidence!

eshermummy · 03/10/2010 21:11

Cake - yes, I prefer the Primarni boots.

Jeans are hard. That's why I've had to order 10 pairs from Outnet (5 diff styles, each in a 27 and a 28). Personally I can't bear anything too tight and restrictive but I also find that a lot of jeans have too much lycra content leading to the slide problem.
What works for me now is a mid to high rise. I will now no longer touch anything low rise as I find being pear shaped they just slide right down immediately.

Fleecy · 03/10/2010 21:12

cake if there are no other takers, I would love them - but if anyone else wants them, they should have first refusal as I already had some cropped jBrands from vin a few months back Smile

I was thinking, for the meet-up, should we book?

eshermummy · 03/10/2010 21:16

Yes, that was the dd's - I'm afraid I only have a hazy recollection of your dd but I have just asked DH and he remembers your dd as being very sweet and very well behaved- unlike our two Blush. DH also remembers seeing you but, as ever, I was in a world of my own and missed you!!!

notyummy · 03/10/2010 21:17

Probably should book I think Fleecy. I won't fight you over the shorts- they sound great, but I am50/50 about whether I fit a 10 on my bottom half and I can't face the depression setting in if I don't! Grin]

Fleecy · 03/10/2010 21:20

Ah, an impromptu meet up has already taken place then!

I'm happy to book if we can confirm numbers. Will post this again tomorrow when more people are around.

LetThemEatCake · 03/10/2010 21:25

right then fleecy you are welcome to them and NY, I shall find something else for you.

would you both also give me your advice on jeans as I think you are both the most similar to me physically on this thread?

Thanks to you too esher. And am glad you like my boots Grin

Am deffo going to give the Belstaffs a whirl this week.

hf128219 · 03/10/2010 21:29

Well esher that is proof if ever the world is a very small place! Your girls are lovely.

NY Will look out for the Marie Claire article. And those shorts!

eshermummy · 03/10/2010 21:40

I have been very naughty. I have just ordered this jacket in an 8 and a 10 (I think they come up quite small and I need to be able to get a jumper under it when it gets colder) to justify the expense of yet another jacket.
I used the ASOS 15% code and as is free returns I figure I might as well try it. However, this will be the third style of barbour to darken my door so after this one I am officially Giving. Up. with waxed coats!

NY - I meant to say, I think those shorts are, in MN parlance, gopping Smile

On the other hand, I am rather coveting this velvet number.

LetThemEatCake · 03/10/2010 21:45

esher I was reading my dc Dear Zoo this morning and it made me think of you!! Grin
(he was too .... so I sent him back)

I quite fancy a lace dress. Or a lace tee. Anyone seen one?

hf128219 · 03/10/2010 21:47

Barbour looks good.

I think there is a 20% code with Glamour mag for Jaeger at the moment. GLAMAWFF for online discount.
